Abstract
Computer-based infectious disease surveillance systems are capable of real-time or near real-time detection of serious illnesses and potential bioterrorism agent exposures and represent a major step forward in disease surveillance. Infectious Disease Informatics: Syndromic Surveillance for Public Health and Bio-Defense is an in-depth monograph that analyzes and evaluates the outbreak modeling and detection capabilities of existing surveillance systems under a unified framework, and presents the first book-length coverage of the subject from an informatics-driven perspective. Individual chapters consider the state of the art, including the facilitation of data collection, sharing and transmission; a focus on various outbreak detection methods; data visualization and information dissemination issues; and system assessment and other policy issues. Eight chapters then report on several real-world case studies, summarizing and comparing eight syndromic surveillance systems, including those that have been adopted by many public health agencies (e.g., RODS and BioSense). The book concludes with a discussion of critical issues and challenges, with a look to future directions. This book is an excellent source of current information for researchers in public health and IT. Government public health officials and private-sector practitioners in both public health and IT will find the most up-to-date information available, and students from a variety of disciplines, including public health, biostatistics, information systems, computer science, and public administration and policy will get a comprehensive look at the concepts, techniques, and practices of syndromic surveillance.

Abstract
This updated and revised edition of the classic bedside pocket reference remains the gold standard in critical care medicine. The new edition maintains Dr. Marik's trademark humor and engaging writing style, while adding numerous references to make this book the most current and thorough treatment of evidence-based critical care available. The handbook enables the clinician to find the evidence to support or refute an intervention and to help choose the most appropriate, cost-effective treatment. The analysis of treatment strategies is presented by organ system, and the handbook also covers miscellaneous ICU topics (such as sedation, toxicology, radiology, and sepsis) based on the most frequently found and difficult to solve problems in ICU patient management.

Abstract
A comprehensive guide to the assessment scales, interviews, and questionnaires for ADHD for children, adolescence, and adults. Written by world-renowned experts in psychiatry, specifically in ADHD. Dr Conners' work in this book is invaluable as he is the author of the most widely used assessment scales in the field. A follow-up of the 2003 first edition of the Guide to Assessment Scales in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (also written by Dr Conners and Dr Kollins) Concise analysis of the most useful and popular scales assessing ADHD for children, adolescents, and adults. Explains how to most effectively use the top assessment scales in ADHD for children and adults in the context of a clinical practice Expert commentaries highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each scale, in addition to providing a discussion on how and when to administer them. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting about 3-5% of children globally and diagnosed in about 2-16% of school aged children. Additionally, it is a chronic disorder; 30-50% of individuals diagnosed with ADHD in childhood continue to be symptomatic in adulthood. However, with early diagnosis, medical management and behavioral treatment has been most effective when treating patients with ADHD at any age. Assessment scales are critical and essential tools for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with ADHD. This book has been designed to provide clinicians with a quick guide to the most effective assessment scales in ADHD for patients at any age. Additionally, the scales are used in clinical trials to evaluate drug efficacy.

Abstract
The book presents new ideas to model and solve the flexible shift planning problem of personnel workers in the service industry. First, a new modeling approach is proposed that requires shifts to be generated implicitly rather than employing a predefined set of shift types like three 8-hour or two 12-hour shifts to cover varying forecast demand. The objective is to minimize the total cost of the assignments given the general and individual labor restrictions. Second, to find high quality assignments two solution methodologies are presented. A heuristic decomposition strategy decomposes the problem into weekly subproblems whereas a branch-and-price algorithm that uses several branching rules decomposes the model by worker types. The master problem uses a set covering formulation whereas the subproblems are mixed integer programs. The modeling and solution methodologies are developed and tested using the example of physicians from an anesthesia department of a German university hospital.

Abstract
Dietary Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Cancer provides all the latest information on the possible benefits of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) against a wide series of cancers. Several influential scientists in this field have contributed to make this book an unique one amongst the others published so far in this field. The chapters give detailed information about the results obtained in this field through experimental studies conducted on both animals and cultured cells, as well as through human intervention trials and epidemiological observational studies. This book represents an important tool for researchers working in nutrition and oncology, since it collects all the knowledge about omega-3 PUFAs and cancer, even the most recent, in a single publication. For the first time controversies among the different studies are also covered with great details in this book. The book makes physicians able to clearly understand on a scientific basis if their oncologic patients or patients at risk of cancer could actually benefit from a diet enriched in omega-3 PUFAs or from a dietary supplementation with these fatty acids. The book represents also a good resource for ordinary individuals as well as cancer patients to learn more about omega-3 PUFAs and understand how these dietary components may effect cancer growth.

Abstract
The ethnic composition of Britain's population is changing rapidly as the 21st century progresses. Some commentators predict a catastrophic future of increasing ethnic segregation and community breakdown, whereas others say that the benefits of ethnic pluralism and cultural diversity will lead to a more integrated society. This book addresses many of the key issues and debates associated with ethnicity and integration in Britain. It provides the reader with an enhanced understanding of ethnic population change and residential concentration, ethnic household dynamics, internal and international migration, the relationship between ethnicity and health, crime, identity and language, as well as ethnic population projections. Collectively, the findings presented here constitute an evidence base for policymakers and practitioners to draw upon when formulating solutions to the range of problems at local, regional and national level that are associated with an increasingly multi-ethnic society. This book is the third volume of the interdisciplinary series entitled "Understanding Population Trends and Processes". Volume 1 reports the findings of research on fertility, living arrangements, care and mobility, whilst Volume 2 contains selected studies of spatial and social disparities in Britain using various secondary data sets.

Abstract
Children are one of the most important phase of human development and the most important target group for social work intervention. Most of the schools of human development and social work round the world have an elective course on children and some offer a concentration in this area. There are plenty of textbooks on intervention with children published by Western authors, focusing on useful theories and skills but mainly at the remedial level. They neither use the preventative approach nor the child rights perspective, which has been found useful in the developing nations. The books on child rights are generally published by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other international organisations working in the field of children such as Save the Children. These books focus on the useful child rights perspective but they neither integrate theories nor use the preventative approach. The proposed book A Rights-based Preventative Approach for Children’s Psychosocial Well-Being: will be the first to apply the child rights perspective and the preventative approach to intervention for children's psychosocial well-being. It is an integration of theories with practice and teaching relevant in different parts of the world.
