This is a French translation of the English pamphlet 0393, “Before and After Your Cardioversion”. Cardioversion is used to treat heart rhythm problems. During a cardioversion, an electrical shock is given to your heart. Getting ready for the procedure, how the procedure is done, and recovery are outlined. Before the procedure, you will be given a medicine to make you comfortable, relaxed, and sleepy. It will be in your body for 24 hours. During this time, you should not drive, sign legal documents, or drink any alcohol.

This pamphlet is a French translation of the English pamphlet 1441, “Infection Prevention and Control". The role of the Infection Prevention and Control team is to help other health care providers prevent and control infections by: tracking infections, promoting good hand hygiene and other infection control practices, managing an outbreak or outbreaks, and providing education to all health care providers and volunteers. Infection prevention and control is an important part of patient safety. About one in nine patients will get an infection while in hospital. Common infections may include C. difficile diarrhea, pneumonia (a lung infection), bladder infections and wound infections. This pamphlet explains what you should expect your health care team to do to help prevent infection and what you and your visitors can do to help prevent infection.

Health care providers work hard every day to give safe, excellent care. Despite this, the unexpected can happen. For example, a patient may fall or be given the wrong dose of medicine. These unexpected events are called patient safety incidents.
