Abstract
This book presents current understanding of the importance of modern immunology in the etiopathogenesis of human diseases and explores how this understanding is impacting on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prophylaxis. As the core of modern immunology, the "danger/injury model" is introduced and addressed throughout the book. Volume I of the book describes the network of damage-associated molecular pattern molecules (DAMPs) and examines the central role of DAMPs in cellular stress responses and associated regulated cell death, the promotion and resolution of inflammation, the activation of innate lymphoid cells and unconventional T cells, the stimulation of adaptive immunity, and tissue repair. The significance of DAMPs in a wide range of human diseases will then be explored in Volume II of the book, with discussion of the implications of injury-induced innate immunity for present and future treatments. This book is written for professionals from all medical and paramedical disciplines who are interested in the introduction of innovative data from immunity and inflammation research into clinical practice. The readership will include practitioners and clinicians such as hematologists, rheumatologists, traumatologists, oncologists, intensive care anesthetists, endocrinologists such as diabetologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, pharmacists, and transplantologists.

Abstract
This book, based on a recent German publication, offers an overview of basic data and recent developments in the groundbreaking field of molecular allergology. It comprehensively explores the origin and structure of single allergen molecules ("components") and their utility in improving the management of type I, IgE-mediated allergic reactions and disorders like allergic respiratory diseases, food allergies, and anaphylaxis. Highly specific testing, called component-resolved diagnostics, aims to identify and utilize single molecules. Over 200 single allergens from plant or animal sources have been applied to single or multiplex laboratory testing for the presence of allergen-specific IgE. This leap in assay sensitivity and specificity has led to three major advances in patient management: discrimination between primary allergic sensitization and complex cross-reactivity, recognition of IgE profiles for certain allergens and identification of patients most likely to benefit from allergen-specific immunotherapy. The book discusses in detail the benefits and limitations of this 21st century technology, and offers suggestions for the use of molecular allergology in routine clinical practice. It is a "must read" for physicians treating allergic patients as well as scientists interested in natural allergic molecules and their interactions with the human immune system.

Abstract
This book highlights the remarkable advances that have contributed to the development of proteomics over the last two decades. While many of the concepts, methods, and technologies can be widely applied across fields of biomedical research, this book has been tailored for the cardiovascular researcher, with the many facets of cardiovascular disease reflected within the chapters. New methods and technologies are discussed in a manner that is understandable to scientists who are new to the proteomics arena in order to accelerate knowledge dissemination. The full measure of topics that define modern cardiovascular proteomics have been covered, including but not limited to experimental design, sample preparation and separation, mass spectrometry technologies, protein identification and quantitation, as well as statistical, pathway and network analyses of proteomics results. Manual of Cardiac Proteomics addresses many of the technical subtleties to be considered when embarking on a cardiovascular proteomic study. It as an invaluable guide for scientists entering the field, as well as clinicians and trainees in cardiology and all related disciplines.
