Abstract
This book reveals aspects of the management of patients with implantable cardiac devices beyond the direct cardiovascular benefits. With approximately 600,000 new pacemakers implanted each year, electrical therapy of the heart has rapidly evolved over recent years. New technology is continuously introduced into the market for the treatment of electrical heart disease with optimized performance and implemented design. While much attention has mainly focused on the biomedical aspects of electrical therapy, the psychological, emotional, social and cognitive aspects of the implantable devices have been largely overlooked. Psychological, Emotional, Social and Cognitive Aspects of Implantable Cardiac Devices considers the impact that these devices have on quality of life (QoL) and psychological disorders, including anxiety and depression. It has collected, appraised and condensed the results of all empirical studies that have investigated, even marginally, the relationships between the implantable devices and any psychological, emotional, social and cognitive dimension and is thus a cornerstone for all involved in device utilization (physicians, nurses, technicians, industry representatives) that need to understand this topic.

Abstract
This concise practical guide is designed to facilitate the clinical decision-making process by reviewing a number of cases and defining the various diagnostic and management decisions open to clinicians. It is well illustrated and diverse in scope, enabling the reader to obtain relevant clinical information regarding both standard and unusual cases in heart failure in a rapid, easy to digest format. Clinical cases are a key component in modern medical education, assisting the trainee or recertifying clinician to work through unusual cases using best practice techniques. Cardiology is a key discipline in this regard and is a highly visual subject requiring the reader to describe often very subtle differences in the presentation of patients and define accurately the diagnostic and management criteria on which to base their clinical decision-making. This title therefore provides valuable assistance to trainees and clinicians alike in evaluating pati ents and defining an appropriate procedure for each case covered.

Abstract
This book helps clinicians to optimally and appropriately utilize homocysteine levels in the diagnosis, prediction and management of and research into vascular disease and many other conditions. It also familiarizes readers with the pathophysiology and clinical implications of hyperhomocysteinemia. Laboratory investigations are gaining importance in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients, and as such, scientists and laboratorians are constantly attempting to identify new markers that will help in earlier diagnosis and better prognostication of conditions with high morbidity and mortality, as well as high prevalence. According to the WHO, developing countries are home to 80% of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and stroke—conditions with a mortality second only to cancer. Intensive research in these areas has resulted in the identification of homocysteine (declared the 'marker of the millennium') and several new markers for the diagnosis and prediction of CAD and stroke. The book is a valuable resource for clinicians and consultants in practice, as well as for postgraduate and undergraduate students of medicine, biotechnology and biochemistry.

Abstract
This book details the advances in cardiac MRI that have enabled quantitative tissue characterization of the myocardium using myocardial and blood T1 measurements, which have enabled reliable detection of diffuse pathological processes in both the cardiomyocytes and the interstitial cells of the myocardium. Evaluation of the native myocardial and interstitial fibrosis, and measurement of the extracellular volume fraction has allowed an unprecedented opportunity to elucidate the pathology, diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. T1-Mapping in Myocardial Disease: Principles and Applications reviews a wide spectrum of significant cardiovascular disease and provides relevant guidance for the clinical implementation of this innovative technique. The specific topics covered include principles of T1-mapping in cardiovascular disease and the role of T1-mapping in hypertensive heart disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiotoxicity from cancer treatment, cardiacfibrosis, left ventricular hypertrophy in aortic stenosis, peri-infarct injury in ischemic cardiomyopathy, and stem cell therapy. This comprehensive coverage of the utility of T1-mapping in cardiovascular diseases will greatly appeal to the entire cardiovascular medicine and imaging communities.
Contents
Fundamentals of Cardiac T1 Mapping -- T1 Mapping in Cardiac Hypertrophy -- T1 Mapping in Cardiomyopathy from Cancer Treatment -- Comparison of T1 Mapping by Cardiac MRI to Non-Cardiac MRI Methods to Evaluate Cardiac Fibrosis -- T1 Mapping in Aortic Stenosis -- T1 Mapping in Peri-Infarct Injury in Ischemic Cardiomyopathy -- T1 Mapping in Stem Cell Therapy -- T1 Mapping in Uncommon Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathies.

Abstract
This book is a state of the art guide to the diagnosis of extracranial vascular pathologies with modern noninvasive neuroimaging and vascular imaging techniques. The opening sections provide a thorough introduction to arterial and venous anatomy, basic hemodynamics, and the principles of noninvasive vascular diagnostics, including by means of color Doppler ultrasound, CT and CT angiography (356- and 640-slice systems), and MRI and MR angiography (1.5 and 3 T). The main body of the book is devoted to the use of these methods to image cerebral ischemia and a wide variety of extracranial arterial and venous anomalies and pathologies. Neuroimaging and vascular imaging diagnostic criteria are clearly identified with the aid of many high-quality images, and the advantages and disadvantages of each modality for each pathology are explained. Information is also presented on etiology, pathophysiology, and other relevant aspects. A concluding section discusses the role of complementary noninvasive functional tests. The book will be a valuable resource for neurologists, angiologists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, trainees, and all physicians who care for patients with cerebrovascular diseases.

Abstract
This book, now in its revised and updated third edition, is designed to meet the needs of both novice and experienced sonographers by offering a superbly illustrated, wide-ranging account of the use of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of vascular diseases. Each of the main chapters is subdivided into text and atlas sections. The text part documents the relevant ultrasound anatomy, explains the examination procedure, specifies the indications for diagnostic ultrasound, describes normal and pathological findings, and considers the clinical impact of the examination. The atlas part presents a rich compilation of case material illustrating the typical ultrasound findings for both common vascular diseases and rarer conditions that are nevertheless significant for the vascular surgeon and angiologist. The new edition places special emphasis on the role of hemodynamics in clinical symptomatology, and the use of spectral analysis techniques is fully explained. Particular attention is also drawn to the sources of potential discrepancies between investigative methods, including different ultrasound studies, the role of contrast-enhanced studies, and the therapeutic consequences of pathological findings. Helpful algorithms are included to illustrate how targeted ultrasound diagnosis often permits therapeutic planning without the need for further imaging techniques.

Abstract
This volume is a step-by-step educational textbook covering basic to advanced echocardiography that is helpful to all residents, fellows and clinicians in cardiology, internal medicine, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology and pediatric cardiology. It is designed to rationalise and instruct readers on the rapid development in echocardiographic techniques, including real-time three-dimensional echocardiography, strain/strain rate imaging, and speckle tracking, which have greatly expanded the capabilities of cardiac imaging while overshadowing the importance of the basics of echocardiography. Case-Based Textbook of Echocardiography offers a comprehensive review of echocardiography from basic to advanced, including practical points from recently published ASE/EACVI guidelines and explanatory movies and figures. It will be of great interest for all trainee cardiologists and provide experienced echocardiographers with a thorough reference on the topic.

Abstract
This practical book describes a systematic approach to the ultrasound examination of the fetal heart based on accepted screening recommendations. The written content is enhanced by images and videos of both normal and abnormal sonographic findings. Fetal Cardiology: A Practical Approach to Diagnosis and Management goes further than simply describing core screening views. It includes extended views of the fetal heart, the use of Doppler techniques and assessment of fetal cardiac function. "Variants" which can be encountered in practice are described as well as the features of the major groups of cardiac abnormalities and fetal arrhythmias. Because the authors include experienced fetal and paediatric cardiologists, the focus is not only on diagnostic features but also the approach to postnatal care and prognosis. This content is enhanced by inclusion of chapters relating to associated fetal abnormalities, the genetics of congenital heart disease and new imaging modalities such as MRI of the fetal heart. The book equips all those using ultrasound to image the fetus with a clear concise reference to meet the challenge of new guidelines and to expand their knowledge of complementary echocardiographic techniques and management. It details why prenatal recognition of congenital heart disease is being prioritised to allow for parental choice, recognition of associated abnormalities and improvement of postnatal outcome. As such, this book will be important for all professionals, whether they be a cardiologist, fetal medicine specialist, sonographer or midwife.
Contents
1. Organisation of Screening for Congenital Heart Disease -- 2. Screening Views of the Fetal Heart -- 3. Extended Views of the Fetal Heart -- 4. Use of Doppler Techniques in Fetal Echocardiography -- 5. Fetal Cardiac Function -- 6. First Trimester Fetal Echocardiography -- 7. Abnormalities of the Four Chamber View -- 8. Abnormalities of the Great Arteries -- 9. Aortic Arch Abnormalities -- 10. Abnormalities of the Systemic and Pulmonary Veins -- 11. Fetal Arrhythmias -- 12. Role of Fetal Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging -- 13. Counselling Following a Prenatal Diagnosis of Congenital Heart Disease -- 14. Fetal Abnormalities Associated with Congenital Heart Defects -- 15. Genetics of Congenital Heart Disease -- 16. Impact of Prenatal Diagnosis of Congenital Heart Disease on Outcome -- 17.
