Abstract
This book focuses on the diagnostic impact of CT scans in severe abdominal trauma and in non-traumatic acute abdomen, the two clinical entities that constitute the main reasons for referrals for this imaging technique from the intensive care unit. The concept behind it is that emergency surgeons and physicians not only need the clinical knowledge to manage the different pathological conditions, but that they must also have a full understanding of diagnostic imaging modalities. To this end, each chapter includes a description of a specific acute abdominal disorder. In addition to the clinical presentation and the diagnosis and management guidelines, there is a special focus on imaging studies with clear and concise descriptions, high-quality images and the evolution grading scale to aid interpretation. This easy-to-read book is an ideal source of practical information for acute care surgeons, radiologists and for all the members of the emergency team.

Abstract
This book is designed to offer the reader first-rate guidance on shock management in the real world. Comprehensive, evidence-based, and up-to-date instruction is provided on optimal care of patients with different types of shock—septic, hemorrhagic, cardiogenic, anaphylactic, and obstructive—at all stages from initial response through to ICU admission. As well as management, the coverage encompasses pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and emerging trends. A further key feature is the use of a scenario-based approach to present a series of cases based on real-life experiences. Here, a narrative style and Q&A form are employed to vividly convey scenarios that may be encountered in clinical practice and to elucidate decision making in complex circumstances. When readers experience difficulty in answering the questions, the earlier sections can be consulted to identify the correct response. This book will be of great value for all health care professionals. In particular, it will be very helpful for novice or inexperienced practitioners in emergency medicine, critical care medicine, and traumatology.

Abstract
This book covers essential information necessary in diagnosing and treating pediatric patients in the emergency room. Emergencies require quick and precise decision making that does not allow for extended reading or fact-checking to ensure all factors are considered. This pocket guide addresses that need by placing vital clinical management and algorithms into a quick and simple guidebook that can be accessed within moments from a scrub pocket or white coat. It is an easy, quick access reference that can be used for those facts that are absolutely essential, but are often difficult to remember. Color images and flow charts allow doctors to grasp the essentials quickly, while more detailed explanations are included alongside for trainees. Quick Hits for Pediatric Emergency Medicine uses tips, caveats, drug dosing, and pearls to assist the provider who may not be familiar with all of the unique nuances of the pediatric population. This is ideal for emergency department physicians, nurses, and trainees including students, residents, and fellows.

Abstract
This book discusses all important aspects of emergency medicine in older people, identifying the particular care needs of this population, which all too often remain unmet. The up-to-date and in-depth coverage will assist emergency physicians in identifying patients at risk for adverse outcomes, in conducting appropriate assessment, and in providing timely and adequate care. Particular attention is paid to the commonpitfalls in emergency management andmeans of avoiding them. Between 1980 and 2013, the number of older patients in emergency departmentsworldwide doubled. Compared with younger patients, older people suffer from more comorbidities, a higher mortality rate, require more complex assessment and diagnostic testing, and tend to stay longer in the emergency department. This book, written by internationally recognized experts in emergency medicine and geriatrics, not only presents the state of the art in the care of this population but also underlines the increasing need for adequate training and development in the field.

Abstract
This book is an unparalleled resource on neurologic emergencies. Most books on neurologic emergencies focus on treatment of a disease after it is diagnosed (such as stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or meningitis). There are but a few books that focus on how to evaluate the patient with a neurologic symptom, before the diagnosis is made. This is the area that frontline providers, including emergency physicians, family physicians, primary care physicians, hospitalists, urgent care physicians, and midlevel providers struggle with. This book is written by clinicians with a clear understanding of the needs of non-neurologists in the front lines of medicine. The editors are board-certified emergency physicians with fellowship training and expertise in neurologic emergencies. Neurologic Emergencies includes these point-of-care-friendly features: Extensive number of algorithms for distinct presenting symptoms; Classic neuroimaging findings; A concise bullet on what information needs to be conveyed to consultants; Reference to relevant national guidelines where applicable; Common chapter format to facilitate quick look-up.

Ocular Emergency is a systematic, symptom based reference book for clinical practice guidance. This book aims to provide the most thorough knowledge and standard process to clinical practitioners, such as the nurses, medical students, residents, fellows and even ophthalmologists, to help them make the most appropriate decision on the management of patients who have suffered from urgent ocular conditions. The first three chapters provide the audiences general information of ocular emergency and the emergency room (ER), which will help them generate a clinical thinking. The following four chapters are symptom based discussion of common complaints of ocular emergency. These chapters contain almost all the symptoms the audiences will meet in the ER and covers hundreds of diseases the audiences may or may not think of which fits the symptom. They will help the readers to make the right diagnose and offer the best advice or treatment to the patients. The last two chapters provide the audiences the information of most urgent ocular traumas. For each disease, definition, etiology, clinical presentations and signs, treatment and typical clinical case with pictures or illustrative figures will be provided. In addition, each chapter will be provided with an algorithym(s) for differential diagnosis and treatment as a summary of the chapter. Hopefully this book may help the clinical practitioners to be fully prepared for any challenge of ocular emergency cases.

Abstract
This volume provides an "on-the-go" guide to the most common behavioral emergencies a physician may encounter. Each chapter represents a disease state or symptom cluster and concisely summarizes the disease state, provides background, symptoms and signs, differential diagnoses, and immediate and long-term treatment options. All chapters conclude with a diagnosis or treatment algorithm or another easy-to-use visual tool. Chapters named after a specific disease state or symptom cluster, arranged alphabetically for use in the field. The text begins with chapters covering patient evaluation: getting a good history, suicide risk assessment, physical exam, and when and how to use studies. Written by experts in psychiatry and emergency medicine, this text is the first to consider both medical perspectives in a concise guide. Quick Guide to Psychiatric Emergencies is an excellent resource for psychiatrists, emergency medicine physicians, residents, nurses, and other medical professionals that handle behavioral emergencies on a regular basis.

Abstract
The purpose of this book is to give providers of all levels a simple and essential source of practical information in treating the elderly trauma and emergency surgery patient. The Introduction instructs practitioners how to evaluate and assess risk including frailty and use this information in Goals of Care discussions to facilitate shared decision making so crucial to this population. The individual chapters consist of best practices and care guidelines from some of the most well-known thought leaders and best trauma centers in the country across the spectrum from geriatricians to trauma and acute care surgeons and nurses. Each chapter contains easy-to-read algorithms and references that the readers can use and adapt for their own setting. Chapters on Pre-hospital care will help guide EMS organizations and even systems in the right care and triage of the elderly. Each chapter also contains a Nursing Focus section for helpful nursing tips in caring for the eld erly with those injuries and problems. These sections make this book a must-have for any center looking to improve its care of the elderly patient or just trying to be sure its care is already the best it can be. A special section on Post Acute Care will introduce the provider to the common issues surrounding particular disposition destinations for the elderly patient. Abstract
This book presents evidence-based criteria to systematically assess the appropriate use of medical imaging in the emergency department and other acute care settings. Over the last decade, there have been profound changes in the diagnostic testing and work-up of patients presenting to the emergency department with emergent symptoms. One of the most far-reaching changes has been the increased availability, speed, and accuracy of imaging due, in part, to technical improvements in imaging modalities such as CT, MR, and PET. Although the use of high-end imaging has plateaued in general, increased utilization continues in the ED. These patients are more acutely ill and there is additional pressure to make an accurate diagnosis as quickly as possible to facilitate prompt disposition or treatment. There is also strong evidence for the beneficial use of imaging in the emergency setting that results in improved patient outcomes. This book answers that need by providing protocols and guidelines for neuroradiological, cardiothoracic, abdominal and pelvic, musculoskeletal, and pediatric imaging are reviewed in terms of the available imaging modalities, diagnostic criteria, and treatment options. Distinguished by its unique focus on evidence-based emergency imaging in adults, children, and special populations, this book is a unique resource for radiologists, emergency medicine physicians, and physicians in other specialties who need to be informed about the most appropriate uses of diagnostic imaging in the emergency care setting.

Abstract
This book is a practical guide for health care professionals encountering medical emergencies during commercial flight. Health care providers should consider responding to emergencies during flight as there are often no other qualified individuals on board. This text covers the most common emergencies encountered during flight, both general medical emergencies and those specifically tied to the effects of flying, including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological issues. Medicolegal issues are considered in-depth, for both United States domestic and international flights, as there is potential legal risk involved in giving medical assistance on a flight. Additional chapters are dedicated to pre-flight clearance and the role non-physician healthcare providers can play. In-Flight Medical Emergencies: A Practical Guide to Preparedness and Response is an essential resource for not only physicians but all healthcare professionals who travel regularly.

Abstract
In the emergency and trauma setting, accurate and consistent interpretation of imaging studies are critical to the care of acutely ill and injured patients. This book offers a comprehensive review of acute pathologies commonly encountered in the emergency room as diagnosed by radiologic imaging. It is organized by anatomical sections that present the primary ER imaging areas of the acute abdomen, pelvis, thorax, neck, head, brain and spine, and osseous structures. For each section, the common diagnoses are concisely described and are accompanied by relevant clinical facts and key teaching points that emphasize the importance of radiologic interpretation in clinical patient management. The role of modalities such as plain radiography, computed tomography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and nuclear medicine imaging in managing emergency conditions is highlighted. The Second Edition is thoroughly updated and includes over 400 images and multiple choice questions in each chapter. Emphasizing the core concepts in emergency radiology, this book is a valuable resource for radiologists, residents, and fellows.

Abstract
This book answers key questions asked by emergency clinicians faced with complex gastrointestinal and abdominal pain presentations. Instead of a traditional format that includes epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment options, this book takes an approach that mirrors the way clinicians interact with patients – by asking and answering specific clinical care questions. The book is organized into sections by presentation – gastrointestinal bleeding, for example – each of which contains chapters on specific questions, such as “What is the best clinical risk score for low risk GIB patients?” Each clinical question comes with a detailed, evidence-based response and a summary that gives best practices, recommendations, and references. Additionally, at the end of each section is a chapter titled “Expert Corner,” which asks the same clinical questions to a surgical or gastrointestinal specialist and includes key pearls these experts have for emergency medicine practitioners. Gastrointestinal Emergencies: Evidence-Based Answers to Key Clinical Questions is an essential guide for emergency medicine physicians, residents, and medical students who want to review and improve their care of acute gastrointestinal emergencies.
