The Introduction instructs practitioners how to evaluate and assess risk including frailty and use this information in Goals of Care discussions to facilitate shared decision making so crucial to this population. The individual chapters consist of best practices and care guidelines from some of the most well-known thought leaders and best trauma centers in the country across the spectrum from geriatricians to trauma and acute care surgeons and nurses. Each chapter contains easy-to-read algorithms and references that the readers can use and adapt for their own setting. Chapters on Pre-hospital care will help guide EMS organizations and even systems in the right care and triage of the elderly. Each chapter also contains a Nursing Focus section for helpful nursing tips in caring for the eld erly with those injuries and problems. These sections make this book a must-have for any center looking to improve its care of the elderly patient or just trying to be sure its care is already the best it can be. A special section on Post Acute Care will introduce the provider to the common issues surrounding particular disposition destinations for the elderly patient. This will facilitate discussions with families, case managers and facilities to help improve time to disposition.

Abstract
This book is a practical guide for health care professionals encountering medical emergencies during commercial flight. Health care providers should consider responding to emergencies during flight as there are often no other qualified individuals on board. This text covers the most common emergencies encountered during flight, both general medical emergencies and those specifically tied to the effects of flying, including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological issues. Medicolegal issues are considered in-depth, for both United States domestic and international flights, as there is potential legal risk involved in giving medical assistance on a flight. Additional chapters are dedicated to pre-flight clearance and the role non-physician healthcare providers can play. In-Flight Medical Emergencies: A Practical Guide to Preparedness and Response is an essential resource for not only physicians but all healthcare professionals who travel regularly.
Contents
Setting the Scene -- Pathophysiology of Flight -- Medicolegal Issues Arising from Inflight Medical Emergencies in Commercial Travel -- International Flight Considerations -- In-Flight Evaluation and Management of Cardiac Illness -- Respiratory Emergencies -- Neurological Illness -- Psychiatric Emergencies -- Pediatric Considerations -- Obstetrics and Gynecology Considerations -- Infectious Disease -- Other Presentations -- Preflight Medical Clearance: Nonurgent Travel via Commercial Aircraft -- Preflight Therapies to Minimize Medical Risk Associated with Commercial Air Travel -- Ground-Based Medical Support -- Use of Commercial Aircraft for Emergency Patient Transport -- Responding As a Non-Physician Healthcare Provider.

Abstract
The present book is intended as a reference guide for emergency and ambulatory care medicine, providing essential information on the most important problems and incidents caused by venomous, poisoning and traumatic marine and freshwater animals. Indeed, though emergencies caused by aquatic animals are becoming increasingly common, there are few reference books devoted to providing medical guidance on them. The book includes a wealth of original images of injuries caused by aquatic animals, while the text covers the current state knowledge on the subject, including the identification of the animals, the clinical aspects of the envenomation/poisonings/injuries, first aid and emergency care, main treatment alternatives and a typical case representing each group of animals. Chapters are organized according to zoological groups: Marine and Freshwater Invertebrates (Porifera, Cnidarians, Annelida, Mollusks, Echinodermata) and Marine and Freshwater Vertebrates (Fish and Reptiles). Medical Emergencies Caused By Aquatic Animals: A Zoological and Clinical Guide is intended for students and professionals in Medicine (Dermatology, Tropical Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Emergency Medicine) and the Biological Sciences (Zoology and Ecology), as well as to practicing professionals working in coastal or freshwater areas.

Abstract
The lessons from this book help surgeons prepare for emergency events that require disaster preparedness usually handled by the United States military, including chemical attacks and massive casualty events. Written by experts in the field perspectives that come from various combat zones and disaster sites, this book highlights the pitfalls to avoid, the organization that is essential for success, and the tips to help perform surgery in the most austere conditions. The book will address situations where surgeons may have to operate on wanted criminals, operate wearing chemical protective equipment, operate in a collapsed building, or even remove an unexploded device. The book includes cases from the battlefield that are designed to guide surgeons facing these scenarios in the civilian world. There are also chapters detailing the lessons learned from the Boston Marathon Bombing, airline disasters, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Unlike any other current text, Surgery During Natural Disasters, Combat, Terrorist Attacks, and Crisis Situations is an excellent resource for all surgeons who might be faced with these events.
