- This book describes a wide range of interventional procedures currently employed in the treatment of cardiac diseases in women with the aim of enabling not only interventional cardiologists but also cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to refine their approach to female patients and thus improve outcomes. The book reflects the increasing awareness of gender differences with regard to coronary artery disease and structural valve heart disease. Examples include myocardial infarction, which carries a worse prognosis in women in part because they suffer from this disease mostly in the 7th decade of life, present more frequently with hemodynamic instability and later from symptom onset, and have fragile, small and tortuous coronary arteries that are more technically demanding in the context of primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Another example is symptomatic aortic stenosis, which carries a better prognosis in women who undergo trans-catheter aortic valve implantation partially due to a better annulus-prosthesis match, which leads to less residual paravalvular regurgitation, better left ventricular function and lower aggregation of comorbidities. Further, in women left ventricular response to aortic stenosis is typified by muscle hypertrophy with a small ventricular cavity. These differences are reflected in the clinical manifestations and their impact on diagnosis, treatment, and choice of tools and devices for use in interventional procedures. By explaining the at times subtle variances in disease and treatment techniques for female and male patients, this book will help practitioners select the most appropriate procedures and materials in a range of settings.

- This book offers a highly informative guide to interventional radiology such as arterial embolization and arterial balloon occlusion for the prevention of massive hemorrhage and management of cervical myomectomy and cesarean hysterectomy. Recently, catheter intervention for hemostasis in obstetric patients has been increasingly used. Before myomectomy of large cervical leiomyoma or cesarean hysterectomy for placenta percreta with expected massive hemorrhage, a balloon occlusion catheter is inserted into arteries. In cesarean hysterectomy operations, ligation of internal iliac artery is not always effective in hemostasis of uterine bleeding: the success rate is about 40 -60%. Uterine blood flow during pregnancy is much different from that in non-pregnant women because large numbers of complicated collateral arteries develop during pregnancy, especially in patients with placenta previa. If the internal iliac artery and hypogastric artery are ligated, peripheral blood flow is still maintained, which causes intraoperative problems. The authors argue that effective transcatheter balloon occlusion requires a detailed knowledge of blood flow in both pregnant and non-pregnant women. As such the book provides extensive, detailed anatomical figures and videos offer readers vivid insights into methods of intercepting the uterine blood supply and the surgical methods. The book offers a new and indispensable reference guide for all obstetricians, not only for residents, but also for experienced professionals. It is also a valuable resource for radiologists and radiological technicians and radiology specialists.

Risk factors and possible causes of the higher noncontact ACL injury rates in female athletes compared with male athletes are then discussed in depth. - This book offers a comprehensive, practical resource entirely devoted to Contrast-Enhanced Digital Mammography (CEDM), a state-of-the-art technique that has emerged as a valuable addition to conventional imaging modalities in the detection of primary and recurrent breast cancer, and as an important preoperative staging tool for women with breast cancer. CEDM is a relatively new breast imaging technique based on dual energy acquisition, combining mammography with iodine-based contrast agents to display contrast uptake in breast lesions. It improves the sensitivity and specificity of breast cancer detection by providing higher foci to breast-gland contrast and better lesion delineation than digital mammography. Preliminary results suggest that CEDM is comparable to breast MRI for evaluating the extent and size of lesions and detecting multifocal lesions, and thus has the potential to become a readily available, fast and cost-effective examination. With a focus on the basic imaging principles of CEDM, this book takes a practical approach to breast imaging. Drawing on the editors' and authors' practical experience, it guides the reader through the basics of CEDM, making it especially accessible for beginners. By presenting the key aspects of CEDM in a straightforward manner and supported by clear images, the book represents a valuable guide for all practicing radiologists, in particular those who perform breast imaging and have recently incorporated or plan to incorporate CEDM into their diagnostic arsenal.
