Abstract
Regional cancer therapies remain important options in the management of malignant disease, in spite of the venue of more targeted agents for systemic therapies. New technologies and better guidance systems for radiofrequency ablation and intrastitial laser therapies, highly selective intravascular approaches with improved catheters and guidance systems, improved agents for embolizations, and new vasoactive drugs for isolated limb and liver perfusions are just a few of the new developments in a field that is alive and progressing. Regional Cancer Therapy, so well put together by the editors Peter M. Schlag and Ulrike S. Stein, presents an overview of today's realities and tomorrow's possibilities. Regional cancer therapy models provide ways to make new discoveries about tumor biology and new agents that may be used regionally as well as systemically. This book should therefore be of interest to all clinicians and scientists with an interest in tumor biology as well as clinical advances. The treatment of malignant tumors has been substantially improved in recent years due to developments in clinical medicine and technology as well as by advances in molecular biological research. Modern molecular and genetic techniques allow the characterization of molecules that are decisive for tumor development and progression.

Abstract
Thermal ablation has become an integral part of oncology, especially in the field of interventional oncology. This very comprehensive book encompasses the different technologies employed in thermal ablation, its indications and the results achieved in various clinical conditions. The first part of the book clearly explains the basics of thermal ablative techniques such as laser-induced thermotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, cryotherapy, and localized tumor therapy. The latest developments in the application of minimally invasive therapies in localized neoplastic disease are demonstrated. In the main part of the book, techniques of guiding the applicators to the target structures by use of different imaging tools such as ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are discussed. The results are presented for a variety of clinical indications, including liver and lung tumors and metastases and some rather rare conditions involving the kidney, the head and neck, the prostate, and soft tissue structures. A large number of acknowledged experts have contributed to the book, which benefits from a lucid structure and excellent images.

Abstract
This fifth volume of the series, Methods of Cancer Diagnosis, Therapy, and Prognosis, discusses in detail the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of liver cancer. Both standard and emerging therapies for this cancer, written by expert oncologists/pathologists in this field, are included. This fully illustrated volume is divided into 7 sections: Applications of Imaging, Resectable Liver Cancer, Unresectable Liver Cancer, Hepatocellular Cancer, Liver Colorectal Metastasis, Biliary Cancer, and Splenic Cancer. The book discusses imaging modalities for diagnosis, treatment assessment, and prognosis. Includes descriptions of radial magnetic resonance imaging, helical computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, FDG-PET, contrast-enhanced sonography, multidetector-row computed tomography, and single photon emission computed tomography. Presents imaging methods for localized fibrous tumors of the liver, abdominal neoplasms, cholangiocarcinoma, gall bladder carcinoma, hepatic cellular carcinoma, extrahepatic disease, intrahepatic disease, focal liver lesions, biliary cystic tumors, extra hepatic bile duct carcinoma, and splenic metastases. Highlights methods for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with thalidomide and transarterial treatment of hepatic malignancies. Discusses postoperative interferon alpha treatment of patients with HCC. Details the methods of immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray, and proteomic analysis for diagnosis and prognosis. The technological advances presented in this volume are expected to expedite new discoveries and their translation to clinical practice. The field of oncology will benefit the most from these advanced methods, as a combination of therapies and personalized medicine will improve early detection of liver cancer and other cancer types. Professor Hayat has summarized the problems associated with the complexities of research publications and has been successful in editing a must-read volume for oncologists, cancer researchers, medical teachers and students of cancer biology.

Abstract
Interventional Oncology is a fast-growing new field, as well as an emerging specialty. Many minimally-invasive, imaging-guided procedures seem set to replace more traditional open surgical techniques of treating solid tumors in a variety of organs. The aim of this book is to describe new interventional radiological methods in a succinct and practical form. Diagnostic radiological considerations relevant to the selection and follow-up of patients are also covered. The book begins with an overview of the basic principles of current interventional techniques, including thermal ablation, high intensity focused ultrasound, and embolization. Later chapters focus on tumors of the liver, kidney, lung, and bone, placing new interventional techniques in context by referring to the surgical and oncologic methods of treating the same conditions. With an emphasis on best practices, Interventional Oncology: A Practical Guide for the Interventional Radiologist will serve as a definitive guide to practicing physicians involved in this rapidly evolving field.

Abstract
Major technological, basic and clinical research breakthroughs have led to impressive changes in both diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities for the management of cardiac rhythm disorders. Diagnosis has been enriched by sophisticated electrocardiographic recording systems and automatic analysis techniques, by the development of 3D electro-anatomical mapping systems, advances in novel implantable devices, capable of recording electrical signals, as well as intracardiac and intravascular pressures. During this time, the most striking progress in the therapeutic arena has been in catheter-based ablation of different rhythm disorders, and rapid progress in the device therapy. Consequently, the role of the electrophysiologist in the field of cardiology has significantly expanded and the role of cardiac imaging has become a crucial and integral part of diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiological procedures. Cardiac Imaging in Electrophysiology reviews the role of imaging in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiac rhythm disorders. The Editors and their carefully chosen panel of contributors highlight the various cardiac imaging modalities now available to guide the electrophysiologist, from first encounter with the patient through post-procedural care. These modalities have come to play an important role in appropriately selecting patients, guiding therapy, thereby reducing complications, and enabling us to closely monitor the effects of device therapy or catheter ablation procedures, and consequently this book will be of huge value to physicians and trainees in both electrophysiology and cardiac imaging to provide continuity of care for this often challenging group of patients.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in modern medicine, with a number of well-known advantages in terms of image quality, functional imaging options, and patient safety. The idea of using this enormous potential also for interventional purposes may seem obvious, but it took major efforts by engineers, physicists, and clinicians to come up with dedicated interventional techniques and scanners, and improvements are still ongoing. Since the inception of interventional MRI in the mid-1990s, the numbers of settings, techniques, and clinical applications have increased dramatically. This state of the art book covers all aspects of interventional MRI. The more technical contributions offer an overview of the fundamental ideas and concepts and present the available instrumentation. The richly illustrated clinical contributions, ranging from MRI-guided biopsies to completely MRI-controlled therapies in various body regions, provide detailed information on established and emerging applications and identify future trends and challenges.

Abstract
Nuclear medicine is an important element of daily practice for the endocrinologist, both for diagnosis and for treatment. The continuous rapid development of nuclear medicine procedures has created the need for a concise, up-to-date practical guide that presents the essential information required by the endocrinologist. This book is designed to ensure ease of use in clinical practice and provides the most relevant information on nuclear medicine as applied to endocrine pathology. It is divided into three sections covering general aspects of nuclear medicine, the role of nuclear endocrinology in diagnosis, and the role of nuclear endocrinology in therapy. The endocrine glands are covered by organ and by pathology. Pertinent background information is provided, choice of radiopharmaceutical is explained, and the role of different image acquisition techniques is discussed. Attention is drawn to radiation safety issues and pitfalls, and informative clinical cases are presented with the aid of high-quality images.

Abstract
This comprehensive reference textbook examines in detail physiological and pathophysiological aspects of the cardiovascular system and cardiovascular disease in the sporting population. In the first part of the book, the non-invasive and invasive diagnostic techniques employed in cardiology are systematically reviewed, with explanation of their indications and clinical utility. The second, more extensive part is devoted to clinical cardiology and covers the great majority of cardiological problems encountered among athletes and other sportsmen and women. Syncope, cardiac arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death are extensively addressed, and guidance is provided on sports practice for individuals with different forms of heart disease. Cardiologic rehabilitation is discussed, and attention is also paid to the legal implications of diagnosed or unsuspected cardiovascular diseases for sportspeople. Sports Cardiology will be an invaluable resource for trainee and experienced health care professionals, including in particular cardiologists and sports medicine physicians. It will provide the knowledge required in order to make critical decisions regarding eligibility, thereby preventing tragic events and especially sudden death: the most devastating occurrence in sport.
