Abstract
An essential, comprehensive, and practical guide to understanding, measuring, and modifying patients' adherence behavior to optimize treatment outcomes, this book covers all major aspects of adherence in dermatology. The first section describes current knowledge on the magnitude and impact of nonadherence; the second outlines measuring adherence in the context of databases, trials and practice. The third section addresses adherence in key skin diseases and the fourth covers numerous strategies to improve adherence by mitigating specific patient barriers. All sections emphasize ways to optimize communication with patients: the foundation for producing successful health behavior change. Low adherence helps explain why, despite effective treatments existing for all major dermatologic conditions, many patients still fail to improve. When clinicians endeavour to maximize adherence, with the aid of evidence-based strategies, these drugs will often realise their potential. This book devotes special attention to understanding why individuals may be nonadherent, so that each patient can receive a suitable treatment regimen, with a personalized plan of action. This book is designed for clinicians at all levels, serving as both introductory training for medical students and residents, and an update on the field for experienced practitioners. Researchers and policymakers will also benefit from its coverage of research methods and the impact of nonadherence in specific diseases. Adherence in Dermatology bridges the gap between outcomes researchers and clinicians by explaining the latest findings in plain language, with examples from everyday dermatologic practice.
Contents
Part I. What is known about adherence behavior -- 1. Impact of Non-Adherence in Dermatology -- 2. Models of Adherence -- 3. Impact of demographic and treatment-related factors -- 4. Edited by Sudhir Diwan, a former Director of Pain Medicine fellowship program at Ivy League Weill Cornell Medical College, and Timothy R. Deer, an internationally renowned expert in neuromodulation and minimally invasive spinal procedures, this atlas covers advanced procedures that normal residency and fellowship programs may not cover. It consolidates information pain fellows usually amass by traveling throughout the country to various specialized weekend courses. Advanced Procedures for Interventional Pain Management: A Step-by-Step Atlas is for physicians that know the fundamentals of pain medicine and want to push their knowledge further. Through easy-to-digest bullet points, extensive diagrams, hundreds of figures, and expanded legends beneath each illustration, this compendium covers techniques such as uoroscopic guidance and radiation safety, endoscopic transforaminal discectomy, endoscopic direct-percutaneous discectomy, transforaminal myelogram, percutaneous facet fusion, percutaneous sacroplasty, vertebral augmentations, percutaneous tumor ablation, percutaneous spinal fusion, minimally invasive spinal decompression (MILD), Interspinous Spacer Placement and advanced neuroaugmentation techniques like high frequency stimulation and DRG stimulation. This book also has a dedicated section on Regenerative Medicine with chapters on platelet rich plasma, stem cell therapy, and intradiscal regenerative therapy. Each chapter has a strict chapter format that includes the indications and contraindications for each procedure, a list of equipment and drugs, a step-by-step illustration-focused how-to, a list of possible post-procedural complications, and bullet-pointed clinical pearls and pitfalls. Abstract
This volume reviews standard treatments for spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas, examining the anatomy of arteries and veins of the sylvian fissure, as well as microsurgical advances and the development of modern therapeutic strategies in intracranial meningiomas. The advances section presents a strategy for minimizing hearing loss after stereotactic radiosurgery for vestibular schwannomas, as well as a description of the mode of action and biology of ALA, including its interaction with tumor cells and the limits of this method. A dedicated chapter addresses the essential question of the limits (and merits) of various tractography techniques, and of their importance for non-specialists, who may be tempted to use them uncritically. A further chapter examines molecular markers, which have become standard in neuropathological reports on intracranial tumors, reviewing the prognostic and predictive value of these modern molecular markers in gliomas. Additional chapters round out the coverage, offering a comprehensive overview of standard and advanced techniques.
Contents
Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula: a review -- Intracranial Meningiomas: a 30 year experience and literature review -- Arteries and veins of the Sylvian fissure and Insula -- Hearing outcomes after stereotactic radiosurgery for vestibular schwannomas: Mechanism of hearing loss and how to preserve hearing -- Merits and Limits of various Tractography Techniques for the Un-initiated -- ALA guided surgery of high grade gliomas -- Clinical relevance of prognostic and predictive molecular markers in gliomas.

Abstract
Limited-edition flavor promotions. Pop-ups on the Net. Junk food blogs. Cereal ads in cartoon shows. Between traditional and emerging media, today's youth are exposed to more advertisements for food and beverages than ever--and, unfortunately, the rising number of overweight and obese children and teenagers reflects this, as do the alarming rates of weight-related disease among young people. Advances in Communication Research to Reduce Childhood Obesity focuses not only on the power of media in driving food choices in youth, but how these same media may be harnessed in reversing the obesity epidemic. Spanning psychology, marketing, and policy, the book explores the range of advertising strategies targeting young people, salient technological innovations, food industry responses to recent policy initiatives, and issues concerning groups who are at greater risk such as minors from lower-income households who are often faced with food insecurity and poor nutrition, which typically impact communities of color, and pre-teens. Its focus on the multiple levels of communication across these concerns offers readers important insights into both the scope of the problem and the opportunities for solutions. Included in the coverage:the strategic nature of marketing to children and adolescents by food and beverage companies. The role of schools in food and beverage marketing.A multi-method study of how youth perceive and evaluate food advertising. First Amendment implications for combating obesity through regulation of advertising.Targeted marketing of junk food to minority youth: communities fight back.Leveraging industry efforts to fight childhood obesity. Advances in Communication Research to Reduce Childhood Obesity is thought- and action-provoking reading for applied researchers in public health, health promotion, health psychology, maternal and child health, obesity epidemiology, health marketing, and health education.

Abstract
This book comprises proceedings from the Third International Conference on Advances in Nutrition and Cancer, held in Naples in May 2012. This highly multidisciplinary meeting analyzed "nutrition and cancer" from different perspectives and on the basis of distinct and up-to-date experimental approaches. Knowledge on the relation between lifestyle, diet, and cancer is explored in a number of contributions, and the role of dietary intervention in cancer patients is discussed. Issues of vital interest to the research community, such as epidemiological and experimental oncology (genetics, epigenetics, and the mechanisms of action of natural compounds in the diet), receive detailed consideration. A further key topic is the emerging molecular technologies (the "omics") that can cast light on the interplay between nutrition and human malignancies. Chapters take the form of reviews that include sections presenting expert opinions. Advances in Nutrition and Cancer will be an invaluable source of topical information for all researchers and clinicians with an interest in this field.

Abstract
After the Error is a collection of true stories from across Canada, and the first book anywhere to recognize what patients affected by medical errors, their families, and immediate healthcare providers have done to prevent others from enduring similar experiences. Medical errors kill 24,000 Canadians each year, adversely affect hundreds of thousands, and cost close to two billion dollars. Victims of medical errors and their families who speak out often do so at considerable emotional, psychological, and financial expense. But their willingness to share their harrowing stories has helped to lay the foundation for numerous patient safety programs and continues to identify problems, provide solutions, and raise awareness.

Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive overview of current arthroscopic techniques for the management of ankle joint disorders. An introductory section clearly and accessibly explains the anatomy in question, the portal placement and other ankle procedures, addressing both the articular and extra-articular compartments. All currently available minimally invasive surgical options and the management of various upper and lower lesions of the ankle are then described step by step, discussing the main issues concerning each of them and sharing useful tips and tricks. A closing chapter is devoted to rehabilitation, which greatly differs in patients treated with arthroscopic procedures and those undergoing open surgery. The volume is also supplemented by detailed videos for each technique and procedure, both outside on the cutaneous layer and inside the joint. The book offers an invaluable tool for orthopedic surgeons and fellows dealing with foot and ankle disorders who normally prefer to use open procedures and desire to complement their surgical options with arthroscopy, as well as for those surgeons already familiar with arthroscopic techniques who would like to broaden their knowledge of the field.

Abstract
This practical manual, written by well-known experts, reviews current indications for the use of IgG concentrates and some other modern immunomodulators and provides fundamental information on present-day immunomodulation in patients (and mice). The book opens by tracing the transition from IgG substitution to IgG immunomodulation and providing expert updates on immunomodulatory indications in autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, including hematologic, neurologic, dermatologic, and other diseases. Basic aspects of IgG concentrates, including methods of production, safety, currently available products, and mechanisms of action, are then discussed. An entire chapter is devoted to the different aspects of immunomodulatory IgG treatment in the bleeding disorder immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Finally, the transition from polyclonal to monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment is addressed in detail, covering mAb development, methods, mechanisms of action, adverse effects, and more. Particular attention is paid to theáexample of anti-CD20 (B-cell) antibody.

Abstract
This book is an up-to-date reference on all aspects of anticoagulation and hemostasis in neurosurgery. After an opening section on basic principles and drug classes in current use, detailed consideration is given to coagulation issues relevant to all patients, not just neurosurgical ones. The coverage includes, for example, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. A variety of important issues specific to neurosurgical practice are then addressed, and the book concludes with a summary of current guidelines and best practices. As the population ages and prophylactic anticoagulation for different cardiac disorders is validated by cooperative trials, it is becoming ever more important that practicing neurosurgeons have the requisite knowledge to manage optimally the opposing processes of anticoagulation and hemostasis. Nevertheless, only a modest amount of structured information is at present available on the subject, with the consequence that decision making is too often insufficiently informed. This book, written by recognized experts, is designed to rectify this situation by bringing together the latest knowledge from across the entire discipline. It will be of daily value for neurosurgeons and trainees worldwide and will also be of interest to emergency room physicians, surgeons in general, critical care physicians, neurologists, and hospital medicine specialists.
