This is a French translation of the English pamphlet 0411, "After Your Liver Transplant". This guide will help you and your family learn about your care after a liver transplant. This guide will answer many of your questions about the transplant process. Members of the Multi-Organ Transplant Program Team (Transplant Team) are also available to talk with you about your concerns. Everyone is different, so you may not have or develop all of the conditions that you read about in this guide. Topics include: in the hospital, monitoring, possible complications, planning for discharge, follow-up care, taking care of yourself, and the self-medication program. This guide also includes a sample medication record. Medication information sheets are provided at the end of the guide if you have specific questions about your medications. Information about common tests (lab tests) is given. Important phone numbers are listed.

During your surgery, you were given a medication that affects how well birth control medications work. It is important that you know this if you are on any type of hormonal contraceptive (birth control medication). Sugammadex (Bridion®) is a medication that helps you recover faster from the muscle relaxant used during your surgery. Sugammadex may lower how well your hormonal birth control works for 7 days (1 week). Use a back-up birth control method for at least 7 days after your surgery. If you are using an oral contraceptive (birth control pill), take it as usual. Types of hormonal birth control and back-up methods are listed.
