This booklet gives helpful information to families with a loved one who is a patient in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). Different aspects to be aware of when visiting a family member in the CVICU are covered, including naming a family spokesperson, things to keep in mind while visiting (such as ways to prevent infection), common equipment on the unit (e.g., lines, monitors and alarms), keeping patients comfortable (minimizing risks such as mood disturbances, delirium, pressure ulcers, blood clots), and location of family waiting rooms. Strategies to help you take care of yourself are also provided.
