- Alcohol Use Disorders and the Lung: A Clinical and Pathophysiological Approach is an excellent resource for clinicians who care for individuals affected by alcohol use disorders in diverse settings. Although alcohol abuse alone does not cause acute lung injury, it renders the lung susceptible to dysfunction in response to the inflammatory stresses of sepsis, trauma, and other clinical conditions recognized to cause acute lung injury. In parallel, these same pathophysiological effects of alcohol abuse significantly increase the risk of a wide range of serious lung infections. Many clinicians involved in the primary treatment of alcohol use disorders, such as addiction psychiatrists, will find this text of interest as it will expand their understanding of the health consequences of alcohol use disorders. In parallel, clinicians who specialize in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine will have a unique resource that provides a comprehensive review of the pathophysiology of alcohol-related lung disorders and insights into evolving therapeutic options in these vulnerable individuals. - This book is the culmination of an international effort to bring consistency and diagnostic efficiency to effusion cytology for the sake of patient care. The authors recognize special challenges in serous fluid cytopathology, such as reporting the presence of Mullerian epithelium in peritoneal fluids. What is an appropriate serous fluid volume to ensure adequacy? How should mesothelial proliferations be reported and is it appropriate to make an interpretation of malignant mesothelioma? How specific should a report be regarding the origin and subtyping of tumors found in serous fluids? What are the appropriate quality monitors for this specimen type? Special chapters on considerations for peritoneal washings, cytopreparatory techniques, mesothelioma and quality management are included to address these issues. The text contains literature reviews that elucidate existing evidence in support of current practices and recommendations. Expert opinions on where evidence was lacking, the most common practices were adopted by consensus, and where there was no commonality, are employed. - This book covers the imaging of thoracic structures with a focus on evaluation of the lungs. However, updated literature is not available yet. Filling this gap, the book provides radiologists with up-to-date, handy information on reading chest scans. This book uses standard terms and lexicons to describe the imaging findings. It consists of 14 chapters, and includes more than 1200 illustrations covering both commonly and rarely encountered conditions. The first chapter discusses imaging patterns and signs in thoracic imaging, while the chapter on interstitial lung diseases describes the hallmarks that are useful in the diagnostic pathway of these diseases. This chapter also incorporates the latest diagnostic categories of UIP based on CT patterns, and provides pictorial examples. Written by experts in the field, the book highlights imaging features and relevant clinical findings that may help in reaching diagnosis, and wherever possible, it presents the imaging features in tables for ease of memorizing.
