Abstract
Neglected finger injuries may lead to chronic lesions that often have detrimental consequences for the practice of a ball sport, whether at a recreational level or at the top athlete level. The initial injury management is crucial. Depending on the type and the severity of the lesions, different people may get involved: the players themselves or their entourage, physiotherapists, club doctors, emergency physicians, family doctors, sports doctors or hand surgeons. Treatment is usually conservative: the long fingers require rapid mobilization to prevent stiffness and contrary to that, the thumb requires stability. Surgery may be necessary to reach these goals especially for athletes, because of the demands of their sport. Chronic lesions are also in part related to repeated trauma, requiring specialized long-term multidisciplinary treatment. They can often lead to the end of a sporting career, but also may limit the functionality of the fingers at the time of conversion. Dr Chick is Consultant Hand Surgeon in Hopital de la Tour (Geneva) and Clinique de Genolier, Switzerland, and Visiting Surgeon in Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Doha, Qatar.

Abstract
Of all the techniques used to treat non melanoma skin cancer, the highest cure rates belong to the Mohs surgical procedure. Critical to this technique is optimal preparation and interpretation of frozen sections. The second edition of this highly successful atlas details both common and uncommon cutaneous neoplasms that can serve as a source of reference for established practitioners and a review for those in training. It includes new frozen section specimens, the most current diagnostic guidelines, and discussion of the advancements in tissue staining. There is also an additional chapter with self-study tools, where readers can test their knowledge using various images with a multiple choice answer format, followed by a discussion of the correct answer. With high resolution figures, the Atlas of Mohs and Frozen Section Cutaneous Pathology, Second Edition is the premier text on the topic, serving as a highly practical guide to microscopic analysis, diagnosis, and discrimination of common and problematic cutaneous neoplasms. Highlights of the Atlas include diagnosis of basic and routine dermatologic entities, diagnosis and distinction of rare and/or deadly neoplasms such as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and merkel cell carcinoma, a troubleshooting guide dealing with quality control of the frozen section technique, and discussion of techniques including immunohistochemistry. Comprehensive and presented in full color, the Atlas of Mohs and Frozen Section Cutaneous Pathology, Second Edition is an indispensable reference for anyone involved with the Mohs procedure, including dermatologic surgeons, Mohs cutaneous surgeons, as well as pathologists and dermatopathologists who perform frozen section analysis of cutaneous specimens.

Abstract
This book provides a bold and honest description of the current state of electronic health record (EHR) technologies in acute and primary care settings, and looks at the future through the lens of emerging new technologies, changes in care delivery models and reimbursement policies. This 4th Edition of Healthcare Information Management Systems: Cases, Strategies, and Solutions has been thoroughly updated, as concepts such as Meaningful Use (MU), interoperability, personalized medicine and health IT have had a considerable impact on patient safety and health outcomes. It outlines the issues of EHR adoption under MU and, as anticipated gains in efficiency, quality and costs have not always been seen, it also provides a framework within which solutions to the frustration, dissatisfaction, and growing concerns can be found. Many suggest that a technology sea change is needed with a second generation of EHRs developed on 21st century architectures that more closely match the flexibility and power of mobile and web-based applications available in the general marketplace. Building on the success of its previous three editions, this book will guide healthcare professionals as they confront the technical, organizational, and management issues related to the selection, implementation, and management of healthcare information systems. It will contribute to taking us into a healthcare system that delivers value, is a pleasure to work within, and relieves the taxpayers' burden.

Abstract
This is a meticulously detailed chronological record of significant events in the history of medical informatics and their impact on direct patient care and clinical research, offering a representative sampling of published contributions to the field. The History of Medical Informatics in the United States has been restructured within this new edition, reflecting the transformation medical informatics has undergone in the years since 1990. The systems that were once exclusively institutionally driven--hospital, multihospital, and outpatient information systems--are today joined by systems that are driven by clinical subspecialties, nursing, pathology, clinical laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, and more. At the core is the person--not the clinician, not the institution--whose health all these systems are designed to serve. A group of world-renowned authors have joined forces with Dr Marion Ball to bring Dr Collen's work to press. These recognized leaders in medical informatics, many of whom are recipients of the Morris F. Collen Award in Medical Informatics and were friends of or mentored by Dr Collen, carefully reviewed, editing and updating his draft chapters. This has resulted in the most thorough history of the subject, and also provides readers with a roadmap for the subject well into later in the century.

Abstract
This book is a comprehensive source of information and guidance on health risk management and medical care across the entire range of sports, in athletes of all ages and ability. General health aspects, injury prevention, first aid and emergency management, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play are all addressed, with presentation of practical recommendations throughout. All medical disciplines with relevance for athletes - from psychological aspects to dermatological issues - are as well as main pathologies, overuse injuries and indications for surgical treatment of all certain parts of the musculoskeletal system, covered. Key features include a clear structure, short chapters in protocol format, and the inclusion of helpful checklists and tips and tricks for a quick and in-depth overview. Detailed attention is paid both to the medical care, specific to injuries of different parts of the body, and to special considerations relating to individual sports. Among the sport disciplines team sports, athletics, winter sports, track and field, martial arts, motor sports and cycling, extreme sports, swimming and water sports, racket sports, other IOC sports, and Paralympic sports are covered. Due to raising population of certain modern non-IOC sports, e.g. E-Sports, beach sports, flying sports and canyoning, and paltry medical information in this disciplines we put a focus on them. The book is a collaborative work from the newly created ESSKA section European Sports Medicine Associates (ESMA), which brings together the various disciplines of sports medicine. It will be an ideal resource and decision-making tool for doctors, athletes, coaches, and physiotherapists.

Abstract
The history of public health has focused on direct relationships between problems and solutions: vaccinations against diseases, ad campaigns targeting risky behaviors. But the accelerating pace and mounting intricacies of our lives are challenging the field to find new scientific methods for studying community health. The complexities of place (COP) approach is emerging as one such promising method. Place and Health as Complex Systems demonstrates how COP works, making an empirical case for its use in designing and implementing interventions. This brief resource reviews the defining characteristics of places as dynamic and evolving social systems, rigorously testing them as well as the COP approach itself. The study, of twenty communities within one county in the Midwest, combines case-based methods and complexity science to determine whether COP improves upon traditional statistical methods of public health research. Its conclusions reveal strengths and limitations of the approach, immediate possibilities for its use, and challenges regarding future research. Included in the coverage: Characteristics of places and the complexities of place approach. The Definitional Test of Complex Systems. Case-based modeling using the SACS toolkit. Methods, maps, and measures used in the study. Places as nodes within larger networks. Places as power-based conflicted negotiations. Place and Health as Complex Systems brings COP into greater prominence in public health research, and is also valuable to researchers in related fields such as demography, health geography, community health, urban planning, and epidemiology.
