Abstract
Few books have been published before with details on preoperative planning, markings and performance of primary surgical techniques to correct the cleft lip and palate deformity. This information is commonly required by surgeons. Scientific papers, conferences, and video clips of these surgical procedures are limited in details about how to address this common disease. This book provides a comprehensive overview of surgery for the correction of primary cleft lip and palate, including planning, selecting the most suitable techniques, markings, performing operative techniques, and preoperative care. Unlike other literature on the topic, which focuses on surgical techniques, this operative atlas (with detailed illustrations) covers the entire spectrum of this congenital deformity: classification of cleft lip and palate, management protocols, unilateral cleft lip surgery, bilateral cleft lip surgery, cleft palate surgery, post operative care and case studies. It will be a unique and valuable resource for surgeons treating this common condition.
Contents
1. Anatomy -- 2. Classification -- 3. Protocol -- 4. Preoperative considerations -- 5. Unilateral cleft lip repair -- 6. Bilateral cleft lip repair -- 7. Cleft palate repair.

Abstract
This open access book marks the first historical overview of the autism rights branch of the neurodiversity movement, describing the activities and rationales of key leaders in their own words since it organized into a unique community in 1992. Sandwiched by editorial chapters that include critical analysis, the book contains 19 chapters by 21 authors about the forming of the autistic community and neurodiversity movement, progress in their influence on the broader autism community and field, and their possible threshold of the advocacy establishment. The actions covered are legendary in the autistic community, including manifestos such as “Don’t Mourn for Us”, mailing lists, websites or webpages, conferences, issue campaigns, academic project and journal, a book, and advisory roles. These actions have shifted the landscape toward viewing autism in social terms of human rights and identity to accept, rather than as a medical collection of deficits and symptoms to cure.

Abstract
The book presents more than 60 real-life cases which together memorably and succinctly convey the depth and breadth of clinical anesthesiology. Each chapter includes a case summary, questions, lessons learned, and selected references. Tables and distinctive visual synopses of key teaching points enhance many chapters. The cases have been selected by Dr. Benumof from the Morbidity and Mortality (M & M) conferences of the Department of Anesthesiology, University of California, San Diego, which he has moderated the last several years, and residents and junior faculty have crafted them into the chapters of this book. Structured in a novel way, the UCSD Anesthesiology M & Ms maximize teaching and learning, and these cases bring that experience right to the reader's finger tips. Case coverage of respiration- and circulation-related problems, obstetrics, neurology, pain and regional anesthesia, pediatrics, outpatient surgery, and special topics; Resource for anesthesiology and critical care medicine trainees; Review tool for board certification or recertification; Fun reading; Valuable lessons.

Abstract
Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the principal x-ray technology used to diagnose osteoporosis in its early, asymptomatic stages, to assess treatment efficacy, and to guide treatment decisions. It remains the gold standard today. A DXA Primer for the Practicing Clinician: A Case-Based Manual for Understanding and Interpreting Bone Densitometry is based on actual clinical encounters and treatment dilemmas encountered by the authors. The content is derived from years of clinical practice and presentations given by the authors at regional and national conferences. It exemplifies not only the complete body of knowledge provided through these lectures but also the full range of previously undiscussed nuances of DXA interpretation. This practical, easy-to-read text captures many of the common challenges of DXA interpretation that clinicians often encounter. The central focus of the book is the presentation of what is normal and what is problematic when using DXA. It presents real-life case histories, their corresponding DXA images, the problems encountered and their solutions.

Abstract
Medicine raises numerous philosophical issues. Most discussed have been debates in bioethics. Yet contemporary medicine is also a rich source of controversies and examples that raise important issues in philosophy of science, philosophy of biology, and metaphysics. This volume approaches the philosophy of medicine from the broad naturalist perspective that holds that philosophy must be continuous with, constrained by, and relevant to empirical results of the natural and social sciences and that believes that the history, sociology, politics, and ethics of science provide relevant information for philosophical analysis. One traditional topic covered by several of the contributions is the nature of disease, but the approach is largely from the philosophy of science rather than traditional linguistic analysis. The complex interplay of epistemological and sociological factors in producing evidence in medicine is discussed by chapters on collective medical discussion making, experimental medicine, "genetic" diseases, mental illness, and race and gender categories. The upshot is a volume that ties medicine to contemporary issues in philosophy of science and metaphysics like no other. "An excellent collection of essays in the philosophy of medicine. Whereas most philosophical work about medicine has been concerned with medical ethics, this volume focuses more on key questions in epistemology and metaphysics, although many of these are also relevant to ethical issues. Some of the chapters are among the best I have read in the philosophy of medicine on their respective topics." Professor Paul Thagard, Philosophy Department, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Abstract
This book introduces the latest advances relating to the pathophysiology, biophysics, monitoring and treatment of traumatic brain injury, hydrocephalus, and stroke presented at the 16th International Conference on Intracranial Pressure and Neuromonitoring (the "ICP Conference"), held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in June 2016 in conjunction with the 6th Annual Meeting of the Cerebral Autoregulation Research Network. Additionally, the conference held special sessions on neurocritical care informatics and cerebrovascular autoregulation. The peer-reviewed papers included were written by leading experts in neurosurgery, neurointensive care, anesthesiology, physiology, clinical engineering, clinical informatics and mathematics who have made important contributions in this translational area of research, and their focus ranges from the latest research findings and developments to clinical trials and experimental studies. Abstract
In 2011, the General Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Toronto sought to develop a practical approach to common oncology problems faced by general surgeons in a collaboration between current and previous fellows, as well as staff at the University of Toronto, including experts from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Odette Cancer Centre (at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre), Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital. This effort culminated in the publication of the Surgical Oncology Manual in March, 2012. The first edition received excellent feedback on its utility from both trainees and practicing surgeons alike. With the ever-changing landscape of surgical oncology, this edition is updated with new evidence and topics in the field, providing a succinct review of surgical oncology with a summary of key evidence in the work-up, treatment, and follow-up for each cancer site as well as a section of "Pearls", derived from the wide breadth of experience, skills, and abilities of the contributors. A clear, concise format has proven invaluable to the intended audience: surgical oncology fellows, practicing general surgeons, general surgery residents, and medical students.

Abstract
This third edition manual provides a comprehensive, insightful, evidenced-based review of general surgical oncology and serves as a valuable resource for general surgeons in training, practicing general surgeons, and surgical oncologists. The volume describes a multidisciplinary approach that integrates clinical, radiologic, and pathologic data in formulating practical clinical management, and offers a practical approach to the most common situations when treating cancer patients. Each chapter focuses on an individual malignancy and describes the presentation of the malignancy, integrated management based on stage, landmark trials, and suggestions for who to discuss at multidisciplinary cancer conferences. Multiple tables in each chapter provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of the current status of the field. Clinical “pearls” or tips and tricks from high volume surgeons at the University of Toronto are also discussed. The third edition of the Surgical Oncology Manual will serve as a critical resource for general surgeons in training and practicing surgeons dealing with this challenging field.

Abstract
This comprehensive volume provides the current state of the art use of corticosteroids in the pediatric age group. The book consists of 14 chapters written by leading authors from around the world. The first chapters deal with historical notes, general concepts on treatment with corticosteroids with regard to indications and side effects, and the basic pharmacologic properties of these compounds. The rest of the book is devoted to the specific use of corticosteroids in the different pediatric subspecialties. Despite advances with newer effective immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids still remain the mainstay of therapy for many disorders. Rolando Cimaz is Head of the Pediatric Rheumatology Unit at Meyer Children's Hopital in Florence, Italy, and is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Florence, Italy. He graduated from Milan University in Italy in 1987, is a specialist in Pediatrics (1991) and in Rheumatology (2003), and did his Fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology in Dallas, Texas, USA, in 1993-1994. He was Maitre de Conférences des Universités at Université Claude Bernard-Lyon in Lyon, France from 2005 to 2007. Abstract
This book on Thesis Writing for Master's and Ph.D. program focuses on the difficulties students encounter with regard to choosing a guide; selecting an appropriate research title considering the available resources; conducting research; and ways to overcome the hardships they face while researching, writing and preparing their dissertation for submission. Thesis writing is an essential skill that medical and other postgraduates are expected to learn during their academic career as a mandatory partial requirement in order to receive the Master's degree. However, at the majority of medical schools, writing a thesis is largely based on self-learning, which adds to the burden on students due to the tremendous amount of time spent learning the writing skills in addition to their exhausting clinical and academic work. Due to the difficulties faced during the early grooming years and lack of adequate guidance, acquiring writing skills continues to be a daunting task for most students. This book addresses these difficulties and deficiencies and provides comprehensive guidance, from selecting the research title to publishing in a scientific journal.
