Nous présentons ici les différents types de chirurgie de la hernie et expliquons ce à quoi il faut s’attendre avant la chirurgie, le jour même de la chirurgie et une fois de retour à la maison. Il s’agit notamment de ce qui suit : contrôle de la douleur, exercices pour respirer profondément et tousser, exercices pour les pieds et les jambes, soins de l’incision, activité physique, repas, bourrelet de cicatrisation, suivi avec le chirurgien et symptômes nécessitant des soins médicaux. Vous trouverez également des cartes pour aller aux différents hôpitaux où les chirurgies de la hernie sont effectuées (QEII, Windsor et Truro).

A hernia forms when an outer wall of muscle breaks open or tears. This allows organs (such as a loop of bowel or tissue) to fall through the opening. Different types of hernia surgery are described. Topics include what to expect before surgery, on the day of surgery and after surgery at home. Some after surgery topics include pain control, deep breathing and coughing exercises, foot and leg exercises, care of your incision, physical activity, meals, healing ridge, follow-up with your surgeon and a list of symptoms that need medical attention. Maps to the different locations where surgery is performed (QEII, Windsor and Truro) are provided.

This is a French translation of the English pamphlet 1395, “Planning for Your Hospital Stay after Surgery". This pamphlet provides information about your care before and after surgery. Topics about preparing for surgery include: confirming the time of surgery, anesthetic, health and hygiene, medicines, smoking, food and drink, delays, and valuables. After surgery we have described: recovery area, nursing unit, control of discomfort, deep breathing and coughing exercises, feet and leg exercises, nutrition, and visiting hours. Instructions for specific types of surgery will be discussed with you.

This pamphlet gives specific directions if you are a patient on warfarin and you are undergoing treatment for at least one of the following conditions: atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), prosthetic (artificial) heart valve, venous thrombosis (blood clot in a deep vein) or pulmonary embolism (artery in the lung blocked by a blood clot), myocardial infarction (heart attack), or another related condition. Directions about how to take this medication, missed doses, INR blood tests, drug and food interactions, side effects, and safety precautions are provided.
