Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae are bacteria that have become resistant to a group of antibiotics known as carbapenems. This means these antibiotics cannot prevent the growth of the bacteria anymore. This pamphlet explains how CPE is spread, why CPE is a concern, how to know if you have CPE, and how long you may have CPE. Infection prevention and control (IPAC) guidelines for your care in the hospital and at home are explained. The French version of this pamphlet 2344, "Entérobactéries productrices de carbapénémase (EPC)," is also available.
