Abstract
Adenovirus epithelial keratitis and Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis (TSPK) are apparently disparate diseases. While adenovirus eye infections are very common, caused by a known agent, and highly infectious, TSPK is comparatively rare, of unknown causation, and seemingly non-contagious. Despite these differences, the two diseases are often confused in clinical practice owing to the similarity between adenovirus epithelial infiltrates and 'coarse' epithelial TSPK lesions. This book presents the morphological features, dynamics, and sequelae of adenovirus and Thygeson's keratitides captured at high magnification in the living human cornea. It thereby fills the existing void between conventional photographs and slit-lamp observations. Case reports demonstrate the importance of patient history in differential diagnosis, illustrate the need for familiarity with early manifestations of adenovirus infections, and assist in the diagnosis of rare variants of TSPK. Furthermore, the detailed observations on the natural course of the diseases ensure that the book will serve not only as a diagnostic tool but also as a reference when evaluating the effects of potential new treatments.

Abstract
Endorsed by the Association of Radiologic and Imaging Nursing (ARIN), this first of a kind comprehensive radiology nursing textbook fills a gap by addressing important subjects for patient care and professional issues, as well as, future possibilities affecting nursing practice. It serves as a resource to related nursing specialties, e.g. critical care, emergency or peri-anesthesia, and to radiologic technologists and physician assistants. The book could be used as one resource for studying for radiologic nursing certification. The textbook is subdivided into five sections that address advanced practice and leadership roles, clinical patient care topics, safety topics, including legal considerations, e.g. infection prevention and equipment. It includes a section with topics impacting the patient experience and a section on professional topics, e.g. cybersecurity, social media, research/outcomes, interprofessional collaboration, workplace violence and current trends in imaging. The authors include advanced practice providers, radiology nurse managers, educators, physicians, a physicist, a dentist, attorneys, a child life specialist, administrators and a social worker. Radiology diagnostic examinations and therapeutic procedures have become a more prominent part of patient care due to advances in technology and the ability of radiology to provide services that were traditionally done in surgery or not done because of limited knowledge. Many procedures are facilitated by the radiology nurse from initial consult to transfer to a hospital unit or discharge and follow-up. Nurses assess, monitor, administer sedation/other medications and respond to emergencies. They serve as educators, researchers, and resource personnel to the radiology department and in many instances, to the entire facility. Radiology nurses are real leaders. In order to keep up-to-date on new developments, nurses need new literature to support their clinical expertise and leadership. This book is an unparalleled resource, written by experts in their areas of interest.

Abstract
This textbook provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of ultrasound in thyroid and parathyroid diseases, and will serve as a valuable resource for all clinicians and allied healthcare providers who wish to advance their knowledge and skills in sonography. Although a novice sonographer will be able to understand all of the topics, these are presented from a vantage point of complex decision-making encountered in real clinical scenarios. The sections are organized according to a logical structure covering benign and malignant thyroid conditions, parathyroid disease, and ultrasound technology, ultrasound-guided interventions, and innovations. The style of the chapters provide practical, actionable information that is richly illustrated with figures and links to video cine-clips, as these form the real-time advantage of ultrasound compared to other imaging modalities. Since thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound is now mainly clinician-performed, the chapter topics aim to show how different specialists uniquely apply ultrasound in given clinical scenarios. The text illustrates the optimal incorporation of current practice guidelines, as this remains varied and inconsistent among clinicians. The content is written by invited experts who perform ultrasound in their daily clinical practices and participate in teaching ultrasound nationally and internationally. It conveys the most up-to-date scientific and clinical information in an interactive and visual format. Advanced Thyroid and Parathyroid Ultrasound fills a gap in currently available resources by serving as a single resource unifying information relevant to multiple specialists interested in advanced thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound. It provides a practical, concise yet comprehensive summary of the current status of the field that will help guide patient management.

Abstract
Alcohol Use Disorders and the Lung: A Clinical and Pathophysiological Approach is an excellent resource for clinicians who care for individuals affected by alcohol use disorders in diverse settings. Although alcohol abuse alone does not cause acute lung injury, it renders the lung susceptible to dysfunction in response to the inflammatory stresses of sepsis, trauma, and other clinical conditions recognized to cause acute lung injury. In parallel, these same pathophysiological effects of alcohol abuse significantly increase the risk of a wide range of serious lung infections. Many clinicians involved in the primary treatment of alcohol use disorders, such as addiction psychiatrists, will find this text of interest as it will expand their understanding of the health consequences of alcohol use disorders. In parallel, clinicians who specialize in pulmonary and/or critical care medicine will have a unique resource that provides a comprehensive review of the pathophysiology of alcohol-related lung disorders and insights into evolving therapeutic options in these vulnerable individuals. Alcohol Use Disorders and the Lung: A Clinical and Pathophysiological Approach fills a gap in the literature and presents the evolving clinical research that may soon lead to novel therapies that can improve lung health in individuals with alcohol use disorders and co-existing conditions such as HIV infection.

Abstract
The use of ultrasound guidance to perform diagnostic and therapeutic injections is growing at a rapid rate, as is the evidence to support its use. Even with the increased popularity of ultrasound, there remains a lack of formal training or a standard reference book. Atlas of Ultrasound Guided Musculoskeletal Injections fills this void in the literature and will be useful to physiatrists, orthopedists, rheumatologists, pain medicine and sports medicine specialists alike. Broken down by anatomic structure and heavily illustrated, this book is both comprehensive and instructive. The Editors and their contributors break down the basics (both the fundamentals of ultrasound to needle visibility and the role of injections) and explore ultrasound-guided injection for structures in the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, hip and groin, knee, ankle and foot, and spine. Using a clear, heavily illustrated format, this book describes the relevant clinical scenarios and indications for injection, the evidence to support ultrasound use, relevant local anatomy, injection methods, and pearls and safety considerations.

Abstract
Written by experts in the field of ophthalmology, this new text assists in understanding new imaging technology and the clinical information it can provide. It allows the reader to review numerous images of various pathologies and would be of interest to retina specialists and ophthalmologists. Retinal imaging has undergone dramatic changes in the last decade, characterized by constantly improving image resolution, most notably, as it applies to macular diseases, thanks to ever evolving optical coherence tomography. However, imaging retina outside of the vascular arcades has come a long way with advent of new cameras and lenses. The most profound change has been the introduction of wide-angle angiography, which has demonstrated pathologies previously not seen or suspected and gives rise to new theories of pathophysiology of some retinal diseases. Understanding this new imaging technology and the clinical information it can provide requires a basis of knowledge and experience in associating the findings with other clinical signs in the eye and the rest of the body. Atlas of Wide-Field Retinal Angiography and Imaging helps with this experience by allowing the reader to review numerous images of various pathologies and analyzes angiographic findings in the retinal periphery. Furthermore, as this technology increasingly fills ophthalmologists' offices around the world, this book will prove to be an invaluable resource, written by experts in the field for retina specialists and ophthalmologists.

Abstract
In this book a group of international experts guide the reader through the clinical features of adults with autism spectrum disorders, describe the care needs of patients and their families, explain the evolution of the disorders into old age, and highlight what can be done to help. Detailed attention is paid to the medical and psychiatric problems of adults with these disorders and the approach to their education and professional integration. In addition, expert neuroscientists summarize current views on the neurobiology of autism. Autism spectrum disorders are devastating neurodevelopmental disorders. Although diagnosis and therapeutic interventions usually take place in infancy, they are chronic lifelong conditions. Surprisingly, the literature on autism spectrum disorders in adults is scarce. Moreover, most mental health professionals working with adults have little training in autism, and adult mental health services around the world are rarely prepared to address the needs of these patients, which tend to increase with age. This book therefore fills a crucial gap in the literature and will prove useful for all who care for and deal with adults in the Autistic Spectrum.

Abstract
This book provides a clear framework for conducting participatory research with children and young people supported with practical examples from international research studies. Our aim is to encourage more participatory research with children and young people on all matters that affect their lives. This book illustrates innovative ways of being participatory and sheds new light on involvement strategies that play to children's and young people's competencies. Participatory research is based on the recognition of children and young people as active contributors rather than objects of research. Participatory researchers support and value the voices of children and young people in all matters that concern them. Core to participatory research practice is a strengths-based approach that aims to promote the active engagement of children and young people in all stages of research, from inception to implementation. Engagement of children and young people requires the use of creative, participatory methods, tools and involvement strategies to reveal children's competencies. This book shares knowledge about creative participatory techniques that can enable and promote children's ways of expressing their views and experiences. The book provides guidance on appropriate techniques that reduce the power differential in the adult-child relationship and which optimise children's abilities to participate in research. This book is targeted at researchers, academics, practitioners who need guidance on what tools are available, how the tools can be used, advantages and challenges, and how best to involve children in all stages of a research project. It will provide several examples of how children can have an active participatory role in research. There is increasing interest in involving children as co-researchers but little guidance on how this can be done. This book fills a gap in the current books by addressing all of these issues outlined above and by providing worked examples from leading researchers and academics. It will have wide appeal across a range of different disciplines.
Contents

Abstract
This book fills a significant research gap in how to integrate quality of life data into relevant clinical care plans, and to broaden its applicability to pharmacoeconomic studies of antipsychotic medications and health policy decision-making. It also presents an argument for reformulating the concept of health-related quality of life in schizophrenia as a bio-psycho-social construct, which provides an opportunity to better explore the many factors underpinning the concept itself. Internationally renowned experts from different scientific backgrounds and scopes of expertise each make arguments for the need to invigorate quality of life as a concept in schizophrenia, by broadening its usefulness for clinical and research efforts. The book represents an important addition to the extensive contributions of its editors, Dr. A. George Awad and Dr. Lakshmi N.P. Voruganti, to the field of quality of life.

The occurrence of deleterious or even fatal drug-drug interactions (DDIs) in the perioperative period is no longer a theoretical concern but a harrowing reality. A Case Approach to Perioperative Drug-Drug Interactions addresses the complex realm of pharmacokinetic drug interactions in an easy-to-read volume that functions as both a comprehensive clinical reference and a casebook. The book presents a summary of the core concepts of drug interactions; an organized, annotated presentation of the drug interactions most relevant to the perioperative clinician; and approximately 200 case scenarios that highlight specific drug interactions. This book fills a real void in the clinical literature and is invaluable to anesthesiologists and surgeons, and PharmDs, as well as trainees in those specialties; intensive care staff, including physicians, physician assistants, and nurses; and nurse practitioners who staff preoperative evaluation clinics.

Abstract
This manual enables individuals working in children’s palliative care (CPC) globally to learn through engaging real-world cases. The aim is to provide a clinical case-based resource that is globally relevant and accessible to those working in CPC. Drawing on case histories from around the world that reflect key issues and elements of CPC, it provides a practical approach grounded in experience. It addresses multidisciplinary care in the management of children and their families; discusses cases from an international perspective, and shares examples from a variety of countries, utilising cases across a range of ages and conditions, demonstrating holistic care. It represents the first case-based manual on global CPC and is endorsed and promoted by the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN). Children’s palliative care is a rapidly developing field, both in the UK and internationally. The provision of CPC varies considerably, with provision often being insufficient, and over 65% of countries having no recognised CPC service provision whatsoever. As such, while there are an estimated 21.6 million children who require palliative care, in many areas of the world, CPC is poor or non-existent, and children are treated like little adults without their distinctive needs being recognised or understood. There is also a dearth of literature on CPC, hence this clinical case-based manual fills a gap in the market, and is aimed at a global audience, making it a unique text in the field.

Abstract
Compartment syndrome is a complex physiologic process with significant potential harm, and though an important clinical problem, the basic science and research surrounding this entity remains poorly understood. This unique open access book fills the gap in the knowledge of compartment syndrome, re-evaluating the current state of the art on this condition. The current clinical diagnostic criteria are presented, as well as the multiple dilemmas facing the surgeon. Pathophysiology, ischemic thresholds and pressure management techniques and limitations are discussed in detail. The main surgical management strategy, fasciotomy, is then described for both the upper and lower extremities, along with wound care. Compartment syndrome due to patient positioning, in children and polytrauma patients, and unusual presentations are likewise covered. Novel diagnosis and prevention strategies, as well as common misconceptions and legal ramifications stemming from compartment syndrome, round out the presentation. Unique and timely, Compartment Syndrome: A Guide to Diagnosis and Management will be indispensable for orthopedic and trauma surgeons confronted with this common yet challenging medical condition.

Abstract
Most general rheumatologists and OB/GYNs have limited experience in caring for rheumatic disease patients during pregnancy, and many do not have ready access to expert colleagues in this area. Contraception and Pregnancy in Patients with Rheumatic Disease fills this gap by presenting the basics of contraception, fertility treatment, and pregnancy in rheumatic disease patients. This comprehensive resource begins by introducing key concepts that clinicians need to know when assessing the pregnant rheumatic disease patient. It goes on to cover specific rheumatic conditions in pregnancy, including systemic lupus erythematosus, antiphospholipid syndrome, systemic sclerosis, inflammatory myositis, and more. The book concludes by explaining additional related reproductive issues such as contraception, neonatal lupus, and long-term outcome of children of rheumatic disease patients. With advances in rheumatology therapies, obstetric monitoring, and reproductive medicine technologies, increasing numbers of women with rheumatic diseases are pursuing pregnancy. Summarizing the current state of knowledge and presenting a general approach for assessment of the rheumatic disease, this book serves as an invaluable reference tool for both rheumatologists and OB/GYNs.

Abstract
Women with chronic medical problems are at higher risk for complications during pregnancy and, therefore, they are especially in need of appropriate preconception and contraception care. Furthermore, many women with chronic medical problems do not obtain adequate preconception and contraception care. Despite published guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is a substantial gap in medical practice regarding the use of contraception in women with co-existing medical problems. Contraception for the Medically Challenging Patient fills the gap that currently exists in the knowledge of correct contraceptive prescribing practice and shows that inappropriate contraindications can easily become a barrier to effective contraception use among women. Chapters highlight obsolete views about appropriate candidates for contraception and address the complex contraceptive needs of today's medically challenging patients with HIV/AIDS, uterine fibroids, or cardiac, neurologic or thyroid disease. The book gives attention to recommendations on the use of contraception in women with medical problems such as diabetes, obesity, epilepsy, and lupus, among others, and provides comprehensive information regarding the effects that certain drugs may have on contraceptive hormone levels. While national guidelines do exist for contraceptive eligibility, this book discusses in more detail the evidence behind the guideline recommendations and the nuances that clinicians confront in daily practice.
