Abstract
This book describes the fundamentals of three-dimensional (3D) printing, addresses the practical aspects of establishing a 3D printing service in a medical facility, and explains the enormous potential value of rendering images as 3D printed models capable of providing tactile feedback and tangible information on both anatomic and pathologic states. Individual chapters also focus on selected areas of applications for 3D printing, including musculoskeletal, craniomaxillofacial, cardiovascular, and neurosurgery applications. Challenges and opportunities related to training, materials and equipment, and guidelines are addressed, and the overall costs of a 3D printing lab and the balancing of these costs against clinical benefits are discussed. Radiologists, surgeons, and other physicians will find this book to be a rich source of information on the practicalities and expanding medical applications of 3D printing.

Abstract
Nearly a million anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries occur each year worldwide. Such injuries can cause long-term problems in the knee joint, including in particular the early onset of osteoarthritis. It has been evident for some time that a tremendous gender disparity exists in noncontact ACL injuries in sports, and this aspect has been the subject of intensive research. This textbook, focusing on female athletes, reviews and discusses:The short- and long-term impacts of ACL injuries, risk factors and possible causes of the higher injury risk in females, neuromuscular training programs and their effectiveness in reducing noncontact ACL injury rates in females, sports-specific programs for a range of sports with proven improvements in athletic performance, rehabilitation programs after ACL reconstruction that reduce the risk of a future injury, worldwide implementation of neuromuscular retraining. The book will be of value to orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports medicine primary care physicians, and strength and conditioning specialists.
Contents
Introduction: The ACL: Anatomy, Biomechanics, Mechanisms of Injury, and the Gender Disparity. The Impact of ACL Injuries: Short- and Long-Term Effects on the Knee Joint: Consequences of Complete ACL Ruptures -- ACL Reconstruction: Chondroprotective Effects, Risks of Reinjury. Proposed Risk Factors of Noncontact ACL Injuries: Role of Shoe-Surface Interaction and Noncontact ACL Injuries -- Neuromuscular Differences Between Men and Women -- Gender Differences in Muscular Protection of the Knee -- Effects of Alterations in Gait Mechanics on the Development of Osteoarthritis in the ACL-Deficient Knee -- Analysis of Male and Female Athletes' Muscle Activation Patterns During Running, Cutting, and Jumping -- Proximal Risk Factors for ACL Injury: Role of Core Stability -- Proximal Risk Factors for ACL Injury: Role of the Hip -- Gender Differences in Core Strength and Lower Extremity Function During the Single-leg Squat Test -- Gender Effect of Fatigue on Lower Extremity Kinematics and Kinetics During Athletic Tasks -- Testing for Neuromuscular Problems and Athletic Performance. ACL Injury Prevention Programs: Sportsmetrics ACL Intervention Training Program: Components, Results -- Sports-Specific Programs for Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis -- ACL Injury Prevention in Soccer: The Santa Monica Experience -- ACL Injury Prevention Warm-up Programs -- Effect of Intervention Programs on Reducing the Incidence of ACL Injuries, Improving Neuromuscular Deficiencies, and Enhancing Athletic Performance. Reducing the Risk of Reinjury After ACL Reconstruction: Rehabilitation After ACL Reconstruction -- Restoration of Proprioception and Neuromuscular Control Following ACL Injury and Surgery. Abstract
This successful book, now in a revised and updated second edition, reviews all aspects of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female athletes, with the focus on complete, noncontact ACL injuries. The opening section discusses anatomy and biomechanics and explains the short- and long-term impacts of complete ACL ruptures, including long-term muscle dysfunction and joint arthritis. Risk factors and possible causes of the higher noncontact ACL injury rates in female athletes compared with male athletes are then discussed in depth. Detailed attention is devoted to neuromuscular training programs and their effectiveness in reducing noncontact ACL injury rates in female athletes, as well as to sports-specific ACL injury prevention and conditioning programs of proven value. Rehabilitation programs after ACL injury and reconstruction that reduce the risk of a future injury are explored, and the concluding section looks at worldwide implementation of neuromuscular ACL injury prevention training and future research directions. The book will be of value to orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports medicine primary care physicians, and strength and conditioning specialists.

Abstract
The only anatomy atlas illustrated by physicians, Atlas of Human Anatomy, 7th edition, brings you world-renowned, exquisitely clear views of the human body with a clinical perspective. In addition to the famous work of Dr. Frank Netter, you’ll also find nearly 100 paintings by Dr. Carlos A. G. Machado, one of today’s foremost medical illustrators. Together, these two uniquely talented physician-artists highlight the most clinically relevant views of the human body. In addition, more than 50 carefully selected radiologic images help bridge illustrated anatomy to living anatomy as seen in everyday practice.
