Abstract
This third edition of this text is organized into seven sections that address the educational needs of dietitians and other health care professionals around the world who seek current information about nutritional management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Part I addresses the differences in the epidemiology of CKD and renal replacement therapy worldwide, such as environmental, ethnic, cultural, political and macroeconomic factors. Part II includes a thorough review of the components of the nutrition assessment, which includes information about psychosocial issues affecting nutritional status in kidney disease and drug-nutrient interactions, and parts III and IV review preventative strategies for common disorders associated with CKD such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, and current evidence-based treatment recommendations for the nutrition management of non-dialyzed, dialyzed and transplanted adults are addressed. Part V presents the nutritional concerns of CKD populations with special needs (i.e., pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence and the elderly). The nutrition management of other disorders associated with kidney disease are covered in Part VI; these include protein-energy wasting and the inflammatory response, bone and mineral disorders, nephrotic syndrome, nephrolithiasis, and acute kidney injury. Lastly, Part VII is devoted to cutting-edge research on topics of concern in nutrition in kidney disease such as the gut microbiome including pre- and probiotics, appetite regulation, advanced glycation end products, physical activity and structured exercise, and dietary patterns including plant-based diets. When appropriate, the new clinical practice guidelines in nutrition for individuals with CKD are integrated into the chapters. The third edition of Nutrition in Kidney Disease will be a highly informative resource for nephrologists, nutrition scientists, nutritionists, and researchers and students whose research, practice, and education includes nutrition and kidney disease.

Abstract
This volume explores the unique challenges midwifery graduates face as they move into practice. It identifies the similarities and differences in midwifery education, regulation, and clinical practice faced by graduate midwives in all continents, examining the various support systems available for graduate midwives in many countries, and identifying the common strategies (formal and informal) and approaches that have proved to be effective in supporting midwifery graduates. The book volume brings together the experiences of new midwives starting out in registered practice, to share the challenges and triumphs during their transition to confident practitioners. It identifies, explains and details both established and innovative new mechanisms in place to support new midwives in each country, and examines the effects the experiences of transitioning to practice may have on future professional practice, resilience and sustainability. Lack of support during the new-graduate transition to practice has been associated with early attrition from the midwifery profession. Stress, disillusion, and horizontal violence have been identified as factors that influence midwifery attrition rates. Exploration of the various support mechanisms currently available in different countries may stimulate the sharing of best practices in providing new midwives with transition to practice programmes and generate further research. Each chapter is harmonized to facilitate the comparison between countries, and the maternity services context is explained using each country’s specific legislation, regulation and registration of midwives. The preparation of midwifery students for qualified practice is outlined to explain how midwifery students are trained and socialized into the profession, mentored in their placements and then transitioned to registered midwife status. This book appeals to midwives, managers, educators, and newly graduated interested in international midwifery practice.

Abstract
This book offers comprehensive information on modern approaches to vulvar lesions, taking into account recent management recommendations and employing the consensus terminology of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD). Further, it breaks with past misconceptions and myths, and explains in detail the modern approach. The aim is to help clinicians perform the differential diagnosis of vulvar conditions and implement the new recommended treatments. The core chapters of the book are arranged in accordance with lesion presentation: red lesions, white lesions, patches and plaques, papules and nodules, erosions and ulcers, blisters, etc. For each lesion, the multidisciplinary management is fully explained, including clarifications of the role of gynecologists, dermatologists, physical therapists, pain specialists, sex therapists, and others. Clinical case presentations and numerous illustrations of treatment procedures are included, supplemented by informative online videos. A separate chapter is devoted to vulvar pain, which is increasingly becoming recognized as a growing problem. Here, again the past approaches are replaced with new paradigms. All of the authors are acknowledged experts in the field and the editor is a past president of the ISSVD. The book will be of value for all vulvar specialists and a wide range of other clinicians.

Abstract
This book describes in detail the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of congenital bleeding disorders. It will assist readers in overcoming the significant challenges involved in clinical and laboratory diagnosis and in providing effective clinical care that makes optimal use of new products, including recombinant factor concentrate. The coverage ranges from hemophilia A and B and von Willebrand disease to rare bleeding disorders such as congenital factor V, factor X, factor XI, and factor XIII deficiency and inherited platelet function disorders. The exceptional attention to rarer conditions is of particular importance given the considerable risk of overlooking them during diagnosis, with potential consequences for disease-related morbidity and mortality. The authors are acknowledged specialists in the field from across the world who have particular expertise in the disorder that they discuss. The book will be of value to hematologists, oncologists, pediatricians, laboratory specialists and technicians, general physicians, and trainees.

Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive overview of current immunotherapy strategies, and how these may be applicable to childhood cancers. The first part of the book reviews how the immune system recognizes cancer, and the various escape mechanisms allowing tumour growth. The importance of the tumor microenvironment and the challenges this may present to achieving effective immunotherapy are discussed. Monoclonal antibodies, cellular, cytokine and vaccine therapies are all comprehensively reviewed, with particular focus on their potential application to pediatric cancers. Practical aspects of delivering such therapies to children, likely toxicities and potential biomarkers are considered. Finally, consideration is given to how, in the longer term, such therapies may be combined with conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Edited by two distinguished pediatric oncologists with a collection of chapters from the most authoritative experts in cancer immunotherapy, this is an indispensable volume for pediatric oncologists and physicians working in childhood cancer care.

Abstract
This book is a scientific biography of Louis Harold ("Hal") Gray, FRS (1905-65), a pioneer in radiobiology: a little known science that is nevertheless extremely important since it constitutes the basis of radiotherapy. Hal Gray's work also played a vital role in ensuring that radiography would be a safe procedure for the hundreds of millions of persons in whom X-ray pictures have been taken. The book offers fascinating insights into both the history of radiobiology and the life of Hal. It contains much unique biographical material made available to the author over the past 35 years by Hal's contemporaries, many of whom have since died. Great influences on Hal's life and studies, including his unusual high school, Christ's Hospital, and his firm moral beliefs, are described. But his life was not merely a gentle, cloistered existence in academia. Its ups and downs included events that would not have been out of place in a Hollywood drama. The work, the first book-length biography of Hal, is intended for all who enjoy this genre (including those without a scientific background) or have an interest in the history of radiobiology and radiotherapy.
Contents
Beginnings -- Christ's Hospital and Hal's early schooldays -- Moving up the School -- Science at Housey -- A Cambridge undergraduate -- Nuclear Physics and Professor Rutherford -- Hal, a postgraduate member of Trinity College -- Social life and marriage -- Travel -- The Mount Vernon Hospital -- At the RRU and Hal's forced resignation -- Hal, Director of his own Laboratory -- The Stroke -- Hal's passing. .

Abstract
This clear-sighted reference examines the public health dimensions of labor and sex trafficking in the United States, the scope of the crisis, and possibilities for solutions. Its ecological lifespan approach globally traces risk and protective factors associated with this exploitation, laying a roadmap towards its prevention. Diverse experts, including survivors, describe support and care interventions across domains and disciplines, from the law enforcement and judicial sectors to community health systems and NGOs, with a robust model for collaboration. By focusing on the humanity of trafficked persons, a public health paradigm broadens our understanding of and ability to address trafficking while adding critical direction and resources to the criminal justice and human rights structures currently in place. Human Trafficking Is a Public Health Issue is a sobering read; a powerful call to action for public health professionals, including social workers and health care practitioners providing direct services, as well as the larger anti-trafficking community of advocates, prosecutors, taskforce members, law enforcement agents, officers, funders, and administrators. "An extraordinary collection of knowledge by survivors, academics, clinicians, and advocates who are experts on human trafficking. Human Trafficking is a Public Health Issue is a comprehensive offering in educating readers on human trafficking through a multi-pronged public health lens." Margeaux Gray: Survivor, Advocate, Artist, Public Speaker.

Abstract
Hair health is a core benefit of products produced for consumers by the cosmetic industry, and more than 70% of women claim to want healthy hair. However, there is very little clarity in the industry as to the meaning of healthy hair in a consumer context and the technical factors that control what the consumer perceives as hair health. Providing updated information on how to prevent and restore hair damage, Healthy Hair characterizes the clinical, physical, and chemical properties of healthy hair. Factors that control a woman's perception of healthy hair are described, and how these factors link to the fundamental biology of the hair fiber are explained, as well as insults to hair, such as brushing, coloring, and UV exposure. The influences of different products on hair health are discussed, and methods used to measure healthy hair at the molecular, single-fiber, and consumer levels are described. Hundreds of high quality color pictures illustrate the most important clinical, dermoscopic, and microscopic characteristics of both healthy and unhealthy hair.
Contents
1. Healthy Hair: Form and Function -- 2. Root-to-Tip Hair Health -- 3. Understanding Hair Damage -- 4. Healthy Hair Method Assessments -- 5. Clinical Signs of Hair Damage -- 6. Hair Density Reduction -- 7. Cosmetic Products and Hair Health.

Abstract
Nutrition in Kidney Disease, Second Edition addresses the relationships between nutrition and (1) normal kidney function and disease, (2) the progressiveness of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and strategies to prevent further compromise, and (3) the treatment and management of kidney failure especially during medical crises, such as acute kidney injury and its consequent nutritional therapies (e.g., enteral and parenteral nutrition). Demographic patterns, trends and outcomes in the current health care systems are explored in the United States and abroad. Disease prevention and management are presented over the entire lifespan, beginning with pregnancy, followed by infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, concluding with the elder years. Foundations for clinical practice are established by devoting a complete section towards conducting a comprehensive nutritional assessment, comprising of anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, physical parameters and psychosocial concerns unique to the kidney disease population. Nutritional therapy is also discussed across the spectrum of kidney disease, and pertinent aspects critical to successful management of disorders and conditions, such as bone disease, obesity, and nephrotic syndrome are explored. Nutrition in Kidney Disease, Second edition highlights cutting edge research in regards to exercise and functional outcomes, malnutrition and the inflammatory response, experimental therapies, and the use of complementary and alternative medicine, with a special emphasis on relevant preventative strategies.
