Abstract
The prevalence of hypertension is almost three times as high as that of diabetes mellitus type 2, with both conditions being major risk factors for stroke, ischemic heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure. The exact prevalence of hypertension related to hormonal derangements (endocrine hypertension) is not known but estimated to affect less than 15% of hypertensive patients. Recent scientific discoveries have increased the understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms of hypertension. In Endocrine Hypertension, a renowned panel of experts provides a comprehensive, state-of-the-art overview of this disorder, discussing when to assign an endocrine cause in one of many conditions that may present with hypertension. The first part of Endocrine Hypertension is dedicated to adrenal causes. The second part of the volume concerns potential nonadrenal causes of hypertension, such as growth hormone excess or deficiency, primary hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, testosterone deficiency, insulin resistance, obesity-associated hypertension, and the role of central mineralocorticoid receptors and cardiovascular disease. An important contribution to the literature, Endocrine Hypertension is an indispensable reference not only for endocrinologists, diabetologists, and adrenal investigators, but also for translational scientists and clinicians from cardiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, geriatrics, urology, and reproductive medicine / gynecology.

Abstract
Biologics have revolutionised the treatment of many severe conditions, delivering exceptional clinical results but also producing exceptionally high prices. As patents expire, copies and price competition are expected throughout the world. However, due to the intrinsic heterogeneity and molecular complexity of biologic medicinal products, their copies cannot simply be authorized under the "generic rule" valid for small chemical entities. In response, a dedicated regulation was issued in the European Union. It is based on the concept of "biological medicinal products similar to a biological reference product", or "biosimilars". This book analyses the context of biotechnological production and addresses the European legal framework for biosimilar market approval. It highlights post-market authorisation issues, such as Risk Management Plans and substitution of products, and outlines some other issues, such as cost management and international nomenclature. This book is primarily intended for hospital-based physicians and pharmacists. It will also be a valuable resource for all actors from all countries who want to better understand the emergence of these new medicinal products within the European context.

Abstract
The prevalence and incidence of urolithiasis are rising worldwide. Accordingly, the diagnosis, management, and prevention of urinary calculi are relevant to all urologists. A host of new technologies, techniques, and medical regimens have been introduced over the past 30 years, from novel imaging procedures and medical expulsive therapy to interventional treatment options. The contemporary urologist should be familiar with and adept at implementing these new concepts and techniques. Furthermore, urologists should be comfortable with the comprehensive metabolic evaluation of high-risk patients and the initiation of dietary or medical preventive measures. This book covers every clinically relevant aspect of urolithiasis and its treatment, both surgical and medical. In addition to providing up-to-date evidence-based recommendations regarding stone management, it reflects the real-life experience of well-known international experts. Each chapter includes tables and algorithms that allow the reader easily to check the requirements for specific procedures and to translate them into clinical practice. Clinical Management of Urolithiasis will serve as an ideal practical guide and source of information for use in everyday clinical routine.

Abstract
The writings of earliest civilizations reveal that diabetes mellitus has afflicted man for a very long time. Unfortunately, however, we are now experiencing a world-wide pandemic of the disease which has not been adequately addressed. Available evidence suggests that worldwide every 10 seconds one patient dies of diabetes and its severe complications. The outlook is even more bleak with the prediction of half of a billion diabetic patients by the year 2030. The cost-impact of the disease poses a major challenge for both developed and developing countries and their economies. Thus, it is high time to reconsider and revise the current strategies in diabetes care. Accordingly, a paradigm shift from reactive to perspective medicine has become a timely consideration. This shift is based on the concept of Predictive, Preventive and Personalized Medicine (PPPM). The rationale for PPPM relates to the recognition that prediction of persons at high risk for the disease (i.e., diabetes mellitus) should help devise strategies to prevent its target organ complications, and create effective treatments tailored to the individual patient, thereby reducing morbidity, and associated costs, and mortality. The current book entitled 'New Strategies to Advance Pre/Diabetes Care: Integrative Approach by PPPM' is intended to serve as a reference source for researchers and the healthcare industry with a special emphasis on health promotion in the general population and help design innovative strategies to prevent the onset of diabetes mellitus and its secondary complications.

Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive guide to successful kidney transplantation in the highly regulated environment of today. It covers the history of kidney transplant to highlight innovations that have made kidney transplantation so successful as well as the new deceased donor kidney allocation strategy and postulates what types of changes might occur with this new policy. The book highlights special areas of nephrology concern in kidney transplantation, especially diseases likely to recur following transplant. It deals with many of the medications used in kidney transplantation including different commonly used antirejection protocols. It also provides a complete reference on the various operations involved in kidney transplantation. The text includes detailed pictures and surgical technique sections on cadaveric kidney transplantation and living kidney transplantation. It includes information on living kidney donation surgery with a chapter dedicated to the minimally invasive techniques that have been popularized in the last fifteen years. Some coverage on open living kidney donation is presented. Included in this section is discussions of how to handle certain operative challenges like severe atherosclerosis, venous sclerosis and various urinary system aberrancies. Comprehensive coverage of common surgical complications is presented including management of urinary strictures, urinary leaks, lymphoceles, vascular problems following transplant, and what steps shoul d be taken when an early kidney transplant biopsy is necessary. It also covers in detail what is required for maintenance of health after kidney transplantation including the major risks for graft loss as well as what disease processes kidney transplant patients are particularly vulnerable to.

Abstract
This book is the first title that focuses exclusively on kidney disease and its impact in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The increasing prevalence of vascular risk factors such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension coupled with increased longevity has resulted in a worldwide epidemic of cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Never has the impact of one organ system on the other been so profound, as in the current context of cardio-renal interactions. The cross talk between the heart and kidneys is highly relevant in the field of interventional cardiology, given the increasing number of trans-catheter procedures being performed in patients with underlying kidney disease. These procedures also have a significant impact on kidney function and require thoughtful interdisciplinary planning by a cardiorenal team, to achieve optimal outcomes This book assembles the collective expertise of several international leaders in the field of interventional cardiology and nephrology to summarize this complex interface. The book is divided into seven sections to comprehensively cover the topic, including sections on best practices with reduction of contrast associated acute kidney injury, cutting edge techniques to minimize kidney risk with complex interventions, impact of transcatheter valvular procedures on kidney function and the utility of cardio-nephrology teams. Less recognized complications with high morbidity such as athero-embolic renal disease are featured prominently, to increase awareness in the interventional cardiology and nephrology communities. This book is a valuable resource for interventional and structural cardiologists, general cardiologists and nephrologists dealing with the significant overlap areas between these two specialties. It is also relevant to medical students, trainee physicians in nephrology and cardiology, advanced care practitioners and nursing personnel in both specialties . Given the major impact of kidney function on outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac procedures, this textbook serves as a focal point to integrate relevant clinical data from both specialties and help interventional cardiologists achieve optimal outcomes, especially in patients with (or at risk for) kidney disease.

Abstract
This book presents up-to-date information on the clinical-pathophysiological features of acute renal injury and discusses the KDIGO diagnostic criteria, as well as novel experimental findings, including in the area of regenerative medicine. It also highlights the clinical-pathophysiological importance of AKI in clinical settings, including differential diagnoses and management of AKI. In the past, the pathology associated with sudden renal impairment was characterized as acute renal failure (ARF). However, in the 2000s, the joint efforts of specialists in fields including nephrology, intensive care medicine, and cardiovascular medicine led to the introduction of a novel concept known as acute kidney injury (AKI). As medical care progressed, patients such as high-risk elderly subjects who were not deemed to be candidates for invasive therapy came to be treated in intensive care units (ICUs). As a result, kidney injury as a subset of multiple organ failure was re-considered as AKI, especially in intensive care medicine. AKI was then proposed as a novel disease concept to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention to improve prognosis. Presenting novel features, such as the definition of AKI, risk factors and management; biomarkers, such as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and L-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP); long-term outcomes of AKI; as well as renal regeneration using iPS cell, manipulation of embryonic genes, and Xenotransplanted embryonic kidney, this book is of interest to all physicians and researchers in this field around the globe.

Risk Factors for AKI Development in Acute Decompensated Heart Failure -- 7. Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury -- 8. Antibiotics- and Immunosuppressants-Related AKI -- 9. AKI in Setting of Cancer -- 10. Community- and Hospital-Acquired Acute Kidney Injury -- Part II. Complication of AKI -- 11. Complication of Homeostasis (Electrolytes and Acid-Base) -- 12.
