Abstract
"As the values of integrative medicine continues to grow, alternative points of view and treatments are increasing in acceptance and prevalence. Homeopathic medicine is considered an important root to this approach. However, contributions of homeopathically qualified doctors have long been overlooked. A Century of Homeopaths is a detailed account of the many homeopaths who have contributed to medical progress since 1840. The accomplishments of over 100 homeopaths form the organizing structure of the book -- many of whom have been lost to history. The text describes the ways in which homeopaths have influenced medical practice, research and public health, as well as the seminal effect of homeopaths in the emergence of today's medical specialties and in social reform, thus providing insights to healthcare professionals, researchers, students and medical historians"--Provided by publisher.

Abstract
Homeopathy is over 200 years old and is still experiencing an uninterrupted influx of new practitioners and patients. Many patients and therapists swear by this "alternative healing method", which in some countries is even financed by health insurances. This seems completely incomprehensible to critics: For them it is clearly evident that homeopathy is hopelessly unscientific and has at best a placebo effect. The positions of supporters and opponents seem to be just as immutable as they are incompatible. This book answers some essential and fascinating questions: What remains of the founding ideas of homeopathy in 21st century medicine? Does it really work and, if so, how? Which of the original theories can we still apply today with a clear conscience and use for the benefit of patients and the healthcare system? Where does homeopathy have its limits and does it indeed need to be critically reconsidered and evaluated? The author has dealt with the points of criticism for years, but at the same time also takes seriously the wishes and concerns of patients who often feel insufficiently cared for by conventional medical practice. Against the background of her own personal history, her book attempts to bridge the gap between these two traditionally opposing camps.

Abstract
This book traces the genesis, principles and practice of homeopathy, and discusses the reasons for its enduring popularity. Two hundred years ago, medicine had little to offer except blood letting and the administration of violent purgatives--practices which shortened the course of illness by hastening the death of the patient. Largely in reaction to what he correctly saw as the brutality and ineffectiveness of the medicine of his day, the eighteenth century German physician Samuel Hahnemann developed a system of therapeutics that he termed homeopathy. Ironically, while modern medicine has changed beyond recognition, homeopathy, with its roots in alchemy and metaphysics, continues to be practiced precisely as it was in Hahnemann's day. Readers of this book will enjoy the story of homeopathy and its almost magical attraction, whilst learning much from the authors' rational and scientific discussion of the biological, chemical and psychological questions that this treatment raises.

Part I: The Facts of the Matter -- Introduction -- Definition and Main Principles of Homeopathy -- Myths about Homeopathy -- Current Popularity, Acceptance, and Regulation of Homeopathy -- History of Homeopathy -- Different Types of Homeopathy and Homeopaths -- The Patients of Homeopaths -- Homeopathy as a Criticism of Conventional Medicine -- Scientific Evidence -- Spurious Arguments for and Counter-Arguments against Homeopathy -- Part II: Lexicon of Homeopathy.

Abstract
This book is a detailed guide to a new integrative approach to the prevention and treatment of various cardiac disorders and risk factors, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. This approach combines various strategies, including metabolic cardiology, low-dose medicine, exercise programs, stress management programs, evaluation for inherited risk factors, and various other healing modalities. Metabolic cardiology focuses on the prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease at the cellular level through biochemical interventions with nutritional supplements that can promote energy production in the heart. Low-dose medicine, on the other hand, interprets pathological phenomena as an imbalance in intercellular signaling that may be corrected through the administration of low physiological doses of messenger molecules. Therapies outside of mainstream medicine may also be deployed in integrative cardiology, for example acupuncture, herbal medicine, and homeopathy. Integrative Cardiology will be of interest to all practitioners wishing to learn about an approach that incorporates the incredible advances in medication and technology with a focus on nutrition, lifestyle, and mind–body influences.

Abstract
This book covers a broad spectrum of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practices as part of an integrative pediatric oncology employed worldwide, with a special focus on those methods commonly used in the so-called Western countries. It is a scientifically based, practice-oriented handbook that will meet the needs of pediatric oncologists working in medical practices and hospitals. An introductory section offers a comparative overview of contemporary CAM use in pediatric oncology in different countries and also considers such topics as salutogenic approaches, physician attitudes towards CAM, and epistemological issues around integrative medicine.  Commonly used CAM methods are then discussed in a series of individual chapters that provide a theoretical description of the method in question, followed by more practically oriented information, including scientific data if applicable. Special attention is devoted to the question of how to integrate each method into conventional pediatric oncology. The next part of the book discusses aspects of CAM requiring further cultivation, such as institutional research, education and training, and information delivery to parents and children. The book closes with a road map on establishing integrative pediatric oncology worldwide that includes details of existing integrative initiatives in pediatric oncology units.

These homeopathic drug provings are the result of his investigation of the research methods associated with homeopathic drug provings and contemporary research methodology. Dr. Riley has developed explicit and transparent research tools for (1) symptom selection criteria, (2) electronic data collection, and (3) blinding to reduce bias. These homeopathic drugs provings follow good clinical practice research guidelines (GCP) and incorporate the guidelines suggested by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann more than 200 years ago.

Abstract
David Riley's interest in the history, methodology, and results of homeopathic drug provings came from his study of homeopathy at the Hahnemann College of Homeopathy in Albany, California. The 69 drug homeopathic drug provings published here, are the result of his investigation of the research methods of homeopathic drug provings that forms part of the basis for prescribing in homeopathy. In Dr. Hahnemann's time the method by which the treatment profiles of homeopathic remedies were determined were called provings, after the original German word Prüfung, which means "test". Scientific research methods have evolved from the early days of homeopathy and Dr. Riley, in an attempt to improve transparency and reduce bias, has incorporated elements of contemporary research methods such as randomization, blinding, and formal good clinical practice guidelines (GCP) into homeopathic drug provings, while adhering to the general guidelines suggested by Dr. Hahnemann and used by homeopathic practitioners and researchers around the world.

Abstract
This book reveals the numerous ways in which moral, ethical and legal principles are being violated by those who provide, recommend or sell complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The book analyses both academic literature and internet sources that promote CAM. Additionally the book presents a number of brief scenarios, both hypothetical and real-life, about individuals who use CAM or who fall prey to ethically dubious CAM practitioners. The events and conundrums described in these scenarios could happen to almost anyone. Professor emeritus of complementary medicine Edzard Ernst together with bioethicist Kevin Smith provide a thorough and authoritative ethical analysis of a range of CAM modalities, including acupuncture, chiropractic, herbalism, and homeopathy. This book could and should interest all medical professionals who have contact to complementary medicine and will be an invaluable reference for patients deliberating which course of treatment to adopt.
