If your core biopsy is benign, it will be recommended that you return in 6 months time to have a repeat mammogram of the breast that the biopsy was taken from. This appointment will be booked by IWK Central Booking Office and will be faxed to your family doctor's office. Your family doctor's office will then notify you of the date and time of your repeat mammogram appointment.
What is a stereotactic core biopsy of the breast? A Radiologist (a medical doctor who specializes in reading medical images including ultrasound and x-rays) takes samples of an area in your breast using a needle that is guided by a computer-controlled needle guide attached to the mammography equipment.
