An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in the fallopian tube. As the fertilized egg grows, it stretches the fallopian tube until it could eventually rupture (break open). This pamphlet explains the frequency of ectopic pregnancies, the reasons for testing for an ectopic pregnancy, symptoms to watch for when waiting for blood test results, and how your test results will be delivered.
