Abstract
Neglected finger injuries may lead to chronic lesions that often have detrimental consequences for the practice of a ball sport, whether at a recreational level or at the top athlete level. The initial injury management is crucial. Depending on the type and the severity of the lesions, different people may get involved: the players themselves or their entourage, physiotherapists, club doctors, emergency physicians, family doctors, sports doctors or hand surgeons. Treatment is usually conservative: the long fingers require rapid mobilization to prevent stiffness and contrary to that, the thumb requires stability. Surgery may be necessary to reach these goals especially for athletes, because of the demands of their sport. Chronic lesions are also in part related to repeated trauma, requiring specialized long-term multidisciplinary treatment. They can often lead to the end of a sporting career, but also may limit the functionality of the fingers at the time of conversion. Dr Chick is Consultant Hand Surgeon in Hopital de la Tour (Geneva) and Clinique de Genolier, Switzerland, and Visiting Surgeon in Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Doha, Qatar.

Abstract
This book provides novel arthroscopy techniques and applications to clinical practitioners, including sports medicine therapeutics, orthopaedic surgeons, specialist training candidates, rehabilitation clinicians. Small incisions per minimally invasive surgery using a camera mounted on a thin tube to visualize, repair and reconstruct joint-associated structures are accepted and welcomed by the sports medicine field. Arthroscopy technique as a minimally invasive surgical method, in Orthopeadics is not only for the treatment of intra-articular diseases but also an advanced conception for treatment of extra-articular diseases and peri-articular fractures. After performing years of arthroscopy, authors intend to provide an elite technique demonstration of each procedure, including indications, technique, complications, and results. There are three main parts of the book, including the extra-articular application of arthroscopy techniques, arthroscopic minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of intra-articular fractures, and Innovative technology for repair and reconstruction of bone and joint injuries. Key technical points and experience of arthroscopic repair of joint injuries, dislocation of joints, fixation of the intra-articular fractures, ligament release for limbs are illustrated. Special situations such as congenital torticollis, deltoid contracture, gluteal muscle contracture, bone grafting, removal of locking plate and screw and benign tumors treatment are also included.

Abstract
This book will provide an introduction to the epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis of the condition while also exploring the classification, diagnosis, and current and emerging therapies for systemic lupus erythematosus. Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs. The underlying cause of the disease is not fully known, and SLE is much more common in women than in men. It may occur at any age but most often occurs in people between 10 and 50 years of age. This is the second Adis title from Ronald F. van Vollenhoven, who previously authored Biologics for the Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Abstract
This book comprehensively describes alkaptonuria and ochronosis. Beginning with the history, genetics, pathophysiology and diagnostics of the disease, the authors subsequently present a detailed characterization of its clinical manifestation in the spine, peripheral joints, eyes, ears, visceral organs and respiratory tract, its pathological anatomy and histology, as well as differential diagnosis. This is complemented by the latest data on therapy and experimental models of alkaptonuria, and supported by several case reports. Numerous pictures and radiological images document the clinical symptoms, giving the reader a solid understanding of the disease. On the basis of the editor's and authors' own extensive observations, the book offers an analysis of protein metabolism and aromatic amino acids in the context of alkaptonuria. Written by international experts in the field, the book offers a valuable reference guide for healthcare professionals working in rheumatology, dermatology, pulmonology, otolaryngology and histopathology.

Abstract
Ankylosing spondylitis and Klebsiella is a comprehensive and informative text on the cause of Ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a condition which affects 20 million people worldwide and is likely caused or initiated by a bowel infection from Klebsiella bacteria. When a patient is infected by Klebsiella bacteria, his or her immune system will make antibodies against all the antigens or molecules found in the microbe. Because some of the bacterial antigens resemble self tissues, the anti-bacterial antibodies will attack not only the bacteria but also the self tissues such as the joints and the cells having the same HLA molecules, which is how the disease AS starts. This is the concept of molecular similarity or "molecular mimicry" which previously has been found to work in two other autoimmune diseases; rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis. The first paper on this subject was published in 1976 and since then over 100 papers on rheumatological topics have been published, from Prof Ebringer's group, at the Division of Life Sciences, King's College in London, UK. The relevant information from these papers is extracted and presented in this book format making it accessible to health professionals, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies and universities and the general public.

Abstract
This comprehensive guide covers the investigation, diagnosis, prevention, and therapy of all the bone disorders encountered in medical practice. Written in an easy-to-read style, it updates physicians on the current knowledge of bone structure, physiology, and pathology, with emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of common bone diseases. Today, both medical practitioners and specialists need quick access to information on "bone problems" in order to help patients and their families. Therefore this book deals with everything from the basic physiology of bone and mineral metabolism to the utility of radiologic imaging and specialized tests in bone diagnosis and current treatment recommendations, including fracture management. It is scientifically based but provides clear guidelines for managing bone problems and for lifelong maintenance of skeletal structure and function. It will assist not only in the delivery of effective treatment but also in disease prevention.

What is the optimal design and fixation of the implants we use for orthopedic reconstructions? What is the gold standard for the management of patients requiring implants? Is there scope for improvement still further? Huge efforts have been made both by research scientists in orthopedics and the implant industry to furthering the options available for arthroplasty without necessarily considering the cost-effectiveness of this research to clinical outcomes. Abstract
It has also become apparent that theoretical and laboratory studies do not always match the results of long-term clinical studies of which there regretfully few of sufficient quality. The Editor and his carefully chosen selection of contributors critically evaluate data from basic science, experimental in vivo and in vitro biological and mechanical models, autopsy specimens and long-term clinical studies to answer these questions. Bone-Implant Interface in Orthopedic Surgery: Basic Science to Clinical Applications focuses on the bone-orthopedic implant interface in general and will be useful both for the novice who seeks a quick introduction to this specific topic and for more experienced surgeons who seek an in depth critical review of current practices.

Abstract
Nowadays, it is established that carpal ligamentary lesions may lead to instability and then to carpal arthritis. However, the variety of anatomopathological classifications and the multiplicity of surgical repair techniques reflect the difficulty of conceiving this ligamentary pathology. The clinical analysis and traditional investigation techniques face the complexity of the wrist. Its mechanical complexity is due to the number of synchronized bones in every movement of the hand. The clinical analysis of the wrist is insufficient to precisely measure the mobility of each carpal bone. Paraclinical examinations are also significant for clinical diagnosis. The tools available today range from X-rays to arthroscopy, including arthroCTscan and soon MRI. As concerns repair techniques, their diversity must not hide the fact that a biomechanical and physiological principle is involved and must be identified. This book is the result of a reflection of an expert group in the field of wrist pathology. It attempts to analyze, understand, explain and make comprehensible, if not obvious, the reflections that each practitioner should employ during the diagnosis and treatment of carpal ligamentary lesions. The focus is consciously not on degenerative carpal pathology, which usually enjoys more visibility. We hope that readers will benefit from the fact that fragmented pieces of knowledge are gathered in a single work, that they will find in this beginning synthesis inspiring to rethink a difficult and sometimes thankless surgery and to further the surgical advances of the 21st century.

Abstract
In the fifth edition of this highly successful book, the author once again aims to equip the reader with up-to-date information that will facilitate accurate diagnosis of bone and joint diseases by means of combined use of scintigraphy and radiology. Two entirely new chapters have been added, one on the use of 18F-NaF PET/CT and the other on gamma correction scan diagnosis of bone trabecular microfracture and microcontusion as well as bone edema and hemorrhage. Further topics covered for the first time include enthesopathies, myositis, soft tissue diseases, cryptic bones, and differential diagnosis. Individual chapters have been updated and rearranged to reflect the latest advances in imaging diagnosis. As before, a vast number of state of the art gamma correction pinhole bone scans and corroborative conventional radiographs and CT, MRI, and/or ultrasound images are presented side by side. In this new edition, extension of the application of gamma correction to other imaging methods such as MRI and CT and the solution of the halation problem are necessarily addressed. This fifth edition of Combined Scintigraphic and Radiographic Diagnosis of Bone and Joint Diseases will be essential reading for practitioners and researchers in nuclear medicine, radiology, orthopedic surgery, pathology, anatomy, and imaging sciences at large.
Contents
Introduction and fundamentals of pinhole scintigraphy -- Dual-head planar pinhole scan, pinhole SPECT, and gamma correction pinhole scan of the bone -- Clinical applications -- Normal pinhole scintigraphic anatomy of bones and joints -- Normal variants and artifacts -- Infective and inflammatory diseases of the bone -- Noninfective osteitides -- Diseases of joints and soft-tissue infections -- Degenerative joint diseases -- Rheumatoid arthritis -- Seronegative spondyloarthropathies -- Other rheumatic osteoarthropathies and soft-tissue rheumatism syndromes -- Osteochondroses and related diseases -- Vascular bone disorders -- Metabolic bone diseases and drug-induced osteoporosis -- Traumatic, surgical, and sports injuries of the skeleton -- Malignant tumors of the bone -- Benign tumors and tumorous conditions of the bone -- Soft-tissue tumors and tumor-like conditions -- Otorhinological disorders -- PET-CT in bone and joint diseases -- A genetic consideration of skeletal disorders -- Gamma correction pinhole bone scan diagnosis -- Trabecular microfracture and micro contusion -- Appendix: Basic physics of pinhole scintigraphy.
