Abstract
One of the main problems concerning therapeutic tools for the treatment of parasitic diseases, including leishmaniasis, is that some field parasites are naturally resistant to the classical drugs; additionally, current therapies may select parasites prone to be resistant to the applied drugs. These features are (at least partially) responsible for the disappointing persistence of the disease and resultant deaths worldwide. This book provides a comprehensive view of the pathology of the disease itself, and of parasitic drug resistance, its molecular basis, consequences and possible treatments. Scientists both from academic fields and from the industry involved in biomedical research and drug design, will find in this book a valuable and fundamental guide that conveys the knowledge needed to understand and to improve the success in combating this disease worldwide.

Abstract
"The editors have done an outstanding job of presenting complex information in a lucid manner; this book is a must-read for the global community of aspiring students and neuro-oncology practitioners." - Amar Gajjar, MD in the Foreword This is a succinct introduction to pediatric neuro-oncology. It summarizes the key advances in molecular biology that have helped transform this rapidly evolving field and provides up-to-date coverage of major and emerging treatment modalities as well as supportive care. Separate chapters present each kind of pediatric brain cancer and its diagnosis and treatment. As more children survive brain cancer, the importance of quality of life issues and helping survivors to cope with the neuropsychological impact and long-term effects of current therapies has come into sharper focus; these topics are also addressed in the book, as are palliative care and pediatric neuro-oncology in countries with limited resources. The book is aimed at trainees and practitioners who seek an up-to-date text in pediatric neuro-oncology that is both comprehensive and concise.

Abstract
This textbook presents hands-on training material for medical students. The style reflects the need for practice-based teaching with a modern edge in daily clinical routine; accordingly, it also employs online material and pocket cards. Each chapter begins with specific learning objectives, which are cross-referenced with the European curriculum for undergraduate medical education released by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) together with the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS), as well as the minimum geriatric competences for medical students established by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). World-renowned European experts in practicing and teaching the interdisciplinary field of Geriatrics contributed to this work, with the aim of offering the new generation of health professionals a global perspective on one of the greatest public health challenges of our time: the management of the steadily increasing number of older, multimorbid, and vulnerable persons. The major strength of this book—published under the auspices of the EUGMS—is its pragmatic, goal-oriented approach, which makes it suitable for bedside learning and patient-centered medicine; further, all of the chapters are firmly based on the pillars of the ageing process in all of its biological aspects, helping readers understand the pathophysiology of and rationale behind interventions for the main geriatric syndromes and disorders.

Abstract
This book provides wide-ranging information on current clinical and scientific knowledge on the various aspects of fissure sealing. Trends in the epidemiology of caries are first examined, followed by thorough description of the morphology of pits and fissures and types of sealant. The role of sealants in the prevention of caries is discussed. Diagnostic parameters are presented, along with step-by-step descriptions of clinical procedures for fissure sealing. Chapters are also included on alternative techniques of fissure sealing, sealing of carious fissures, and therapeutic fissure sealing. The final chapter in the book focuses on the cost effectiveness of the procedure. Tooth surfaces with pits and fissures are particularly vulnerable to caries development. Sealants were developed to help manage these sites of the tooth and safeguard the surfaces from decay. This book has been written by acknowledged experts in the field. It will be of value for all dental professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of current knowledge on the science and the clinical application of pit and fissure sealants.

This book is a wide-ranging reference on current clinical and scientific knowledge regarding the various aspects of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH). Background information is first presented on the structural properties of hypomineralized enamel, the prevalence of MIH, and potential etiological factors. Subsequent chapters focus on key considerations in clinical practice. Diagnostic criteria, classifications, and treatment strategies are discussed and detailed attention is devoted to potential associations between MIH and caries, the occurrence of hypomineralized primary teeth, and the knowledge and experience of dentists concerning MIH. In the last part of the book, the different treatment options are systematically presented and reviewed, covering pain control, prophylaxis and desensitization, fissure sealing, direct and indirect restorations, and extraction therapy. The cost-effectiveness of the available procedures is also considered. The book is written by acknowledged international experts in the field and will be an ideal source of up-to-date information and guidance for both dental professionals and postgraduate students.

Abstract
This is the first of two volumes that draw on the specialized insights and extensive clinical experience of phoniatric experts in order to offer a basis for the development of concerted European training standards in phoniatrics, with the goal of guaranteeing a high quality of care for European patients in all age groups. The interdisciplinary character of phoniatrics is mirrored in the inclusion of valuable contributions from a range of other medical and non-medical disciplines. This volume focuses on voice disorders and disorders of language and hearing development. In each case a wide range of particular kinds of communication loss are considered. Basic aspects are fully addressed, and guidance provided on diagnostic methods, differential diagnosis, prevention, treatment/rehabilitation, and prognosis. An introductory section also discusses the fundamentals of phoniatrics. The reader will benefit from numerous color photos and tables as well as supplementary electronic material, including audio and video examples. This book is intended for residents and practitioners in phoniatrics and also for ENT physicians, medical students, logopedists, and speech and language pathologists and therapists.
