Abstract
This book presents the state of the art in genetic eye research in Asia and the Pacific. Though there has been an explosion of information on genetic eye research in western countries, more than sixty percent of the human genes involved in eye diseases in the Asian and Pacific population remain unknown. However, new efforts and a new awareness have sparked important discussions on the subject, and new plans are being implemented to discover the genes responsible for many eye diseases in the population. The book reviews the latest findings; its content ranges from genetic aspects of human migration to DNA sequence analysis, genome-wide association analysis, and disease phenotypes. The efforts of the Asian Eye Genetic Consortium (AEGC) are also discussed. The book's editors have been instrumental in developing strategies for discovering the new Asian genes involved in many eye diseases. All chapters were written by leading researchers working on Asian eye genetics from the fields of Human Genetics, Ophthalmology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Sensory Sciences, and Clinical Research. Advances in Vision Research, Volume I will prove to be a major resource for all researchers, clinicians, clinical researchers, and allied eye health professionals with an interest in eye diseases among the Asian population.

Abstract
This superb color atlas sets a new standard in neuroanatomy by presenting around 300 detailed thin-sectioned images of the human head, including the brain, with 0.1-mm intervals and a pixel size of 0.1 mm. A new reference system employed for this purpose is clearly explained, and structures are fully annotated in the horizontal, coronal, and sagittal planes. Recent advances in 7T MRI and 7T TDI have considerably enhanced imaging of the human brain, thereby impacting on both neuroscience research and clinical practice. Moreover, the information gained from initiatives involving photography of thin slices of human cadavers, such as the Visible Human Projects, Visible Korean and Chinese Visible Human, has enriched knowledge of neuroanatomy and thereby facilitated the interpretation of such ultra-high-field resolution images. The exquisite images contained within this atlas will be invaluable in providing both researchers and clinicians with important new insights.

Abstract
This is the second edition of the book, covering a wide spectrum of the latest information relevant to diagnosis and treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). In recent years the incidence rate of esophageal cancer has been increasing; however, the background characteristics of the cancer treatment are significantly different between Asian and Western countries. In tumor histology, ESCC associated with smoking and alcohol consumption is overwhelmingly prevalent in Asia, whereas adenocarcinoma associated with Barrett’s metaplasia is remarkably prevalent in the West. In Asia, especially in Japan, surgeons play a significant role in the management of esophageal cancer patients, while medical and radiation oncologists as well as surgeons are important in the West. Considering these East–West differences in management of esophageal cancer, evidence originating in Asia should be more widely disseminated globally. The contributing authors, who have great expertise in their areas of specialization, discuss details in terms of treatment of ESCC, including basic science, diagnosis, surgery, other treatment modalities, Japanese guidelines, and also valuable experiences from other Asian countries. Accordingly, this excellent collection of texts benefits not only oncologists, but all medical and biological researchers involved in the latest ESCC research.

Abstract
This book is unique in its global approach to applying the Guidelines for Culturally Competent Nursing Practice that were recently endorsed by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and distributed to all of its 130 national nursing associations. The purpose of this book is to illustrate how these guidelines can be put into clinical practice and to show how practitioners from different countries with diverse populations can implement them. The first chapter provides the conceptual basis for Culturally Competent Health Care and describes how the guidelines were developed. Each of the next 10 sections presents a chapter describing a specific guideline followed by three or four chapters with detailed case studies to illustrate how the guideline was implemented in a particular cultural setting. All case studies follow a similar format and are written by international authors with clinical expertise and work experience in the culture being presented. This book will be useful for advanced practice nurses, healthcare students, clinicians, administrators, educators, researchers, and those who provide community health or population-based care.

Abstract
This concise, easy-to-read book tackles the potentially awkward subject of culture in a direct, non-intimidating style. It prepares all health professionals in any clinical setting to conduct thorough assessments of individual from culturally specific population groups, making it especially valuable in today's team-oriented healthcare environment. The book is suitable for healthcare workers in all fields, particularly nurses who interact with the patients 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Based on the Purnell Model for Cultural Competence, it explores 26 different cultures and the issues that healthcare professionals need to be sensitive to. For each group, the book includes an overview of heritage, communication styles, family roles and organization, workforce issues, biocultural ecology, high-risk health behaviors, nutrition, pregnancy and child bearing, death rituals, spirituality, healthcare practices, and the views of healthcare providers. It also discusses the variant characteristics of culture that determine the diversity of values, beliefs, and practices in an individual's cultural heritage in order to help prevent stereotyping. These characteristics include age, generation, nationality, race, color, gender, religion, educational status, socioeconomic status, occupation, military status, political beliefs, urban versus rural residence, enclave identity, marital status, parental status, physical characteristics, sexual orientation, gender issues, health literacy, and reasons for migration. Each chapter offers specific instructions, guidelines, tips, intervention strategies, and approaches specific to a particular cultural population.

Abstract
This book describes the principles of laser treatment in dermatology and, taking into account these principles, provides clinicans with clear, up-to-date guidance on choice of the appropriate laser and parameters for different skin conditions. The aim is to provide a gold standard laser reference book that will meet the needs of those who are already performing laser surgery as well as novices to the field. Readers will find readily understandable coverage of both basic and advanced laser theory. Based on this theory, the authors proceed to explain all the considerations that need to be taken into account when choosing laser systems and parameters for a variety of indications, including all relevant vascular and pigmented lesions and the removal of hair, scars, and tattoos. Close attention is paid to the skin characteristics of Asians and the impacts of these characteristics on parameter selection. In addition, a separate chapter is devoted to the efficacy and safety of laser treatment of melasma, a common disease in Asians.

Abstract
This book describes the current applications of the robotic system in general surgery, focusing on the technical aspects of the procedures most commonly performed by this means. It provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in robotic surgery and presents the most recently available evidence as documented in the literature. The opening chapters review robotic platforms, discuss the general advantages, limitations, and strategies of robotic surgery, and identify challenges and critical elements when setting up a robotic program. The full range of applications of the robotic system is then covered, encompassing thoracic, esophageal, gastric, hepatobiliopancreatic, splenic, colorectal, endocrine, and transplantation surgery. Detailed attention is also paid to innovative applications and future trends in the robotic platform, with inclusion of a special chapter on fluorescence imaging during robotic procedures. The book closes by considering aspects related to credentialing and privileging, such as mentoring, proctoring, and teaching modules for residents and fellows. Against the background of increasing acceptance of the robotic surgery system across the globe, this book will be invaluable for all general surgeons. There is no doubt that within general surgery the system will continue to flourish on account of its undoubted technical advantages, which minimize most of the intrinsic shortcomings of laparoscopy.

Abstract
This book focuses on (1) sports management, (2) sports economics and policy, and (3) sports humanities. The fact that sports humanities is a part of the sports management education program means that a person with extensive knowledge--not only business-related comprehension but also acquaintance with art-related fields, such as the humanities and law--will play a central role in sports management in the next generation. The former two parts aim to provide a clear understanding of sports management and marketing, including the motivational and/or emotional components of fan behavior and sports participation, sports club management, sports sponsorship, athlete reputation management, sports economics, and elite sports policy. As stated above, various topics can be found in sports management research from the macro to the micro point of view, and they are not individually separated but intimately connected. Moreover, given the interdisciplinary nature of sports management, specific, common, and cross-border issues arise in each country. Data from several countries are included in the sports management part. Research beyond borders and collaborative research are expected to increase more significantly than before. Researchers in sports management are expected to find the best answers to such questions as how to manage sports-related organizations or people effectively, how to stimulate the global or local economy and exert social impact through sports, and how to help people gain well-being through sports. These research questions have not changed all through the ages and across the globe. In this book, the researchers also try to find the optimized solution in each topic, and readers can find traces of their passionate exploration.

Abstract
This book presents state of the art knowledge on hemorrhagic stroke in a unique organizational style. All aspects are covered, including risk factors, pathophysiology, diagnostic modalities, treatment, and prevention. Individual procedures and issues are fully discussed with the aid of complementary illustrations that facilitate understanding of practical aspects and enable the reader to retrieve fundamental information quickly. Furthermore, in an accompanying overview diagnostic and therapeutic processes are dynamically described in a time sequence mirroring real practice. The recent striking advances in brain imaging have resulted in a better understanding of the causes and pathophysiology of hemorrhagic stroke, and management has been enhanced by a variety of surgical techniques, intensive monitoring, and administration of novel medical treatment. Against this background, it is timely to summarize current understanding of hemorrhagic stroke and its management from a practical perspective. This textbook will be invaluable for stroke physicians, surgeons, and students seeking to acquire up-to-date knowledge on the subject.
