This pamphlet is a French translation of "Miscarriage: Yarmouth Regional Hospital" pamphlet 2009. There is no “right” way to feel after a miscarriage. Some women may recover quickly, while others take a long time. Some may cope well at the time, but find the pain of their loss hits them later. You are not alone in this terrible experience. About 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and we don’t always know why. Nothing you did or didn’t do is likely to have caused the miscarriage. This pamphlet answers some common questions you may have and describes what to expect if you experience pregnancy loss. A list of symptoms that need followup at the nearest Emergency Department is listed. A list of local resources are provided if you wish to seek extra support in your community.

Abstract
A dramatic and worldwide increase is occurring in the prevalence of overweight and obesity in women of childbearing age. Obese women carry a significant excess risk of complications during pregnancy, including infertility, spontaneous abortion, congenital malformations, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, fetal macrosomia, and cesarean delivery. Furthermore, maternal obesity predisposes to obesity in the offspring, indicating that the prevention of childhood obesity should already start during pregnancy. This book provides a timely update on the latest knowledge on maternal obesity and pregnancy. A very wide range of issues are covered, including macrosomia and associated shoulder dystocia; the risk of miscarriage, malformations, and complications of pregnancy; the impact of hyperglycemia; clinical management; consequences for anesthesia and ultrasound; impacts on breastfeeding, fertility, and childhood obesity; and pregnancy following gastric surgery. All of the authors are recognized experts in their fields, and the book has been designed to meet the practical needs of obstetricians, gynecologists, internists, and general practitioners.
Contents
Epidemiology of Diabetes and Obesity in Pregnancy -- Fertility and Obesity -- Clinical Consequences of Abnormal Glucose Metabolism -- Clinical Management -- Physical Activity and Pregnancy -- Miscarriage and Malformations -- Maternal Obesity and Pregnancy -- Gestational Weight Gain -- Maternal Diabesity and Developmental Programming in the Offspring -- Obesity in Pregnancy and Ultrasound -- Maternal Obesity and Macrosomia -- Shoulder Dystocia in Maternal Obesity -- Stillbirth and Infant Mortality -- Anaesthesia in Maternal Obesity -- Macrosomia and Neonatology -- Childhood Obesity: The Impact of Maternal Obesity on Childhood Obesity -- Obesity in Pregnancy: Data from the Hyperglycemia and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome (HAPO) Study -- Breastfeeding and Obesity: Impact on Women and Their Children -- Pregnancy Following Bariatric Surgery – Index.

Ectopic pregnancy
Abstract
There is no right way to feel after a miscarriage. Some people may recover quickly, while others take a long time. Some may cope well at the time, but find the pain of their loss hits them later. You are not alone. About 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and we do not always know why. Nothing you did or did not do is likely to have caused the miscarriage. This pamphlet answers some common questions you may have and describes what to expect if you experience pregnancy loss. A list of symptoms that need follow-up at the Emergency Department is listed. A list of local resources is provided. The French version of this pamphlet 2201, "Fausse couche : Hôpital régional de Yarmouth", is also available.

Abstract
This book is the first to explain fully the crucial role of folliculo-luteal function in recurrent miscarriage, unexplained infertility, preterm birth, intrauterine growth retardation, preeclampsia, random chromosomal abnormalities, and age-related reproductive disorders. In addition it describes treatments to avoid these conditions and proposes a novel method, "hormonal wedge resection", that can successfully cure infertility associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. Importantly, the conclusions drawn in this book are based on the therapeutic results observed in a representative patient population. The method developed by the author to quantitatively diagnose the hormonal insufficiency of ovulatory cycles (folliculo-luteal insufficiency, FLI) has made it possible to recognize the formerly unclear importance of this function in human reproduction. Folliculo-luteal function determines the conditions of placentation and thus the features of the developed placenta and the outcome of pregnancy. Different grades of FLI are associated with consequences of varying severity that can be prevented by normalization of folliculo-luteal function prior to conception. This book will be required reading for all obstetricians and gynecologists.

Abstract
This book offers a highly informative guide to treating unexplained infertility and recurrent miscarriage (RM). In particular, it provides detailed treatment strategies for infertility or RM derived from uterine circumstance such as chronic endometritis and perturbation of endometrial decidualization, as well as maternal immunological rejection of an embryo as semi-allograft. Unexplained infertility refers to those types that cannot be detected by the general screening test. The causes are sometimes detected in the course of treatment with assisted reproductive technology including IVF. However, some unexplained infertility is intractable even after intracytoplasmic sperm injection or repeated implantation of morphologically suitable embryos. Patients with unexplained RM also have a high likelihood of undetectable risk factors of miscarriage. As a result, gynecologists often repeatedly provide these couples with general treatments for infertility and miscarriage or even discontinue treatment because they cannot detect the reason, which places serious financial, physical and mental burdens on the couples affected. This book offers gynecologists essential insights into the pathological condition of unexplained infertility and RM, equipping them to identify it, explain it to patients, and consider further examinations and more aggressive fertility treatments.

Abstract
Antiphospholipid Syndrome or Hughes Syndrome was the major medical discovery of the late 20th century; for many it is still deemed a new disease. As a result many people are now living with the disease with little knowledge of its causes, effects and available treatments. Many of these patients are also struggling to cope with the daily demands posed by living with such an illness. Understanding Hughes Syndrome: Case Studies for Patients, presents 50 case histories, each covered independently to give a comprehensive view of the vast spectrum that is Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Neurological aspects and effects are covered in approximately half the text, with the remainder covering everything from repeated miscarriages to easy bruising. The provision of personal accounts of Antiphospholipid Syndrome makes this book the ultimate companion to people living with the disease; giving not only the facts but also the personal touch that many people need when coming to terms, and dealing, with their condition. Understanding Hughes Syndrome: case studies for patients is written by Graham R.V. Hughes, MD, FRCP, a world-renowned expert in the field of rheumatology, and as the name suggests discoverer of Hughes or Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Hughes is also the Head of The London Lupus Centre, Founder and Editor of the international journal Lupus, and life president of the lupus patients charity Lupus UK.
