Abstract
This pamphlet gives information about your care before and after surgery at Aberdeen Hospital. Topics about getting ready for surgery include: what to do if you need to cancel your surgery, what to bring, medications, anesthetic, your general health and hygiene, smoking, alcohol and cannabis, personal items, pre-operative (pre-op) preparation, and what to expect in the operating room (OR). Topics about after surgery include: the recovery area, pain control, nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), tubes, dressings, and stitches, bowel functions, passing urine, and eating and drinking. Information about while you are in the hospital includes: deep breathing and coughing exercises, using an incentive spirometer, leg exercises, getting out of bed safely, and visitors. Information about discharge (going home) from the hospital includes: nutrition, meal delivery, care of your incision, what to do if you have bleeding after you go home, and symptoms that require medical attention.
