Abstract
This book provides the first comprehensive overview of a new scientific discipline termed Geroscience. Geroscience examines the molecular and cellular mechanisms that might explain why aging is the main risk factor for most chronic diseases affecting the elderly population. Over the past few decades, researchers have made impressive progress in understanding the genetics, biology and physiology of aging. This book presents vital research that can help readers to better understand how aging is a critical malleable risk factor in most chronic diseases, which, in turn, could lead to interventions that can help increase a healthy lifespan, or "healthspan". The book begins with an analysis of the Geroscience hypothesis, as well as the epidemiological underpinnings that define aging as a candidate main risk factor for most chronic diseases. Next, each chapter focuses on one particular disease, or group of diseases, with an emphasis on how basic molecular and cellular biology might explain why aging is a major risk factor for it. Coverage in the book includes: cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementias, stroke, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes asthma, emphysema, kidney disease, vision impairment, and AIDS/HIV. It finishes with a chapter on pain in the elderly and an overview of future steps needed to bring the newly acquired knowledge into the clinic and the public at large.

Abstract
Most textbooks on otolaryngology and even otology describe the anatomy and embryology of the middle ear in only a limited degree of detail that is inadequate to meet the needs of learners. This book therefore aims to provide otolaryngology residents, otology and neurotology fellows, teachers, and young practitioners with comprehensive, up-to-date information on middle ear anatomy. It will enable those undergoing surgical training to hone their surgical skills and will assist in ensuring that patients receive appropriate management. The anatomy of the middle ear is explained in easy-to-understand descriptions and exquisitely depicted in more than 100 color photos and numerous helpful color diagrams. Key features of the book are the correlation of clinical situations to the anatomical basis of disease, the simplified explanation of embryology to provide a better understanding of developmental anomalies, and the inclusion of carefully selected CT scans that will assist in the reading of normal anatomy and the identification of pathological features. Comprehensive and Clinical Anatomy of the Middle Ear is both instructive and enjoyable to read; it provides, within one volume, up-to-date information that the reader would otherwise have to retrieve from many other sources that are often complex and difficult to understand.

Abstract
This clinically oriented book presents the state of the art in e-health care within dentistry and oral medicine ("e-oral health") with the aim of acquainting dentists and other oral health care professionals with its uses and advantages, especially with regard to diagnosis. It will assist all who wish to learn about teledentistry protocols and the e-oral health branch or to implement e-oral health solutions and procedures in clinical practice. The book opens by discussing general aspects of e-oral health, including tools, networks, and the very important ethical considerations. The use and specific benefits of e-oral health technologies in the diagnosis of different conditions, orthodontic assessment, implantology evaluation, and caries prevention are then fully explained. Finally, examples are provided of the ways in which teledentistry functions in different countries on different continents. e-Oral health is a burgeoning field that encompasses teledentistry as well as other uses of information and communication technologies for oral health care purposes. This book will be an ideal guide for not only dentists but also dental hygienists, dental nurses, and other professionals.

Hepatitis C virus primarily infects liver cells and can lead to chronic damage to the liver. Patients with hepatitis C infection often develop liver sequelae such as fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma if left untreated. It is estimated that 150 million people worldwide are infected with hepatitis C virus, and if eradication is to be achieved it is imperative to diagnose and treat such individuals.

Abstract
This book offers practical guidance on all procedures that may be performed within the field of hip preservation surgery, arthroscopy, and endoscopy. European experts share their experiences on everything from basic injections to the most challenging hip procedures, offering step-by-step tutorials and highlighting important tips and tricks. Whereas most books on hip arthroscopy and hip preservation surgery concentrate on pathologies, surgical indications, and the basics of the treatment, here the focus is very much on the individual techniques and recognized variants. These techniques are clearly and precisely described with the aid of a wealth of photo and video illustrations. The coverage encompasses procedures applicable in the widest range of scenarios, including synovial pathologies, labral, chondral, and bony injuries, hip impingement, dysplasia and instability, snapping hips, gluteus medius and minimus tendonitis and tears, other tendinopathies, post-arthroplasty complications, and rehabilitation. The book is published in cooperation with ESSKA and will be an essential aid for orthopaedic surgeons at all levels of experience.

This book aims to be a guide to the practice of blood conservation. The first chapter discusses the legal and administrative aspects of bloodless medicine describing the legal principles and practical issues relatd to refusal of transfusion. The second is on balancing the risks and benefits of transfusion includes clinical vignettes of appropriate and inappropriate transfusion. The remainder of the book covers the principles and practice of bloodless medicine, including a chapter on the scientific issues of haemostasis and the investigation of bleeding idsorders. The book concludes with chapters on blood conservation in neonatal and paediatric surgery, the costs associated with blood transfusion and the quest for artifical blood. New chapters will be included to address blood utilization in oncology and geriatric patients.

Abstract
This seventh volume of the essential series covering practices and developments relating to CNS tumors zeroes in on those found in the brain. Detailed dossiers on meningioma and schwannoma tumors cover aspects including diagnosis, therapy and prognosis. The text delivers vital insights into the molecular pathways related to brain tumor biology, including a detailed analysis of the roles played in neoplasm formation by E-cadherin gene instability, carbonic anhydrase 11, urokinase plasminogen activator, and Wnt signaling. Further research into their influence in the process could prompt the development of effective anti-cancer drugs. The contributions also show how perfusion magnetic resonance imaging helps physicians differentiate between subtypes of meningiomas, and analyze the influence of molecular genetics and epigenetic mechanisms on schwannoma tumors. Among the diagnostic processes outlined are those for recognizing incidentally discovered meningioma, cystic papillary meningioma, facial nerve schwannoma, vestibular schwannoma, and intermediate nerve schwannoma. This book presents treatments for atypical, oncocytic, intracranial, and cavernous meningiomas, as well as guides to therapeutic methods ranging from neurosurgery and gamma-knife radiosurgery to vestibular schwannoma interventions such as retrosigmoidal craniotomy and immunotherapy. This authoritative volume once again provides invaluable and tightly focused source material for medical professionals committed to placing the latest theories and techniques at the service of those they care for.

Abstract
This book reviews current knowledge of the etiopathogenesis, pathophysiology, and molecular biology of tympanic membrane retraction pockets and provides clear guidance on clinical assessment and treatment. A new diagnostic approach based on clinicoradiologic correlations is presented, and the ability of computer tomography to offer objective criteria for improved differentiation between stable and unstable or unsafe retraction pockets is explained. Surgical options are discussed, and on the basis of their own clinical and surgical experiences the authors propose a novel procedure, masto-atticotomy with anterior epitympanotomy (AER surgery), which addresses the causative factors underlying a retraction pocket. This surgery aims to restore adequate aeration routes for the middle ear compartments situated above the tympanic diaphragm; it results in better control of the pathology and in most cases prevents its recurrence. The book will assist otologists and surgeons in ensuring that retraction pockets are effectively diagnosed and treated, avoiding progression to cholesteatoma.
Contents
