Abstract
This book offers detailed guidance on the use of collagenase, or enzymatic fasciotomy, as a nonsurgical treatment for Dupuytren's contracture and explains its role in relation to the other forms of treatment, including open fasciectomy, needle aponeurotomy, and lipofilling. Clear guidance is provided on technique, current indications, and off-label usage. With the help of tips and tricks from leading experts, the reader will learn how to personalize the procedure to meet the needs of individual patients. Advice is also provided on all aspects of rehabilitation, which is a key determinant of treatment outcome. Collagenase treatment of Dupuytren's disease has the benefits of low invasiveness and rapid patient recovery and achieves reasonable recurrence-free periods. It is especially valuable in patients with rapid recurrence following surgery. In documenting and appraising every aspect of its use, this book will be of value for all who treat patients with Dupuytren's disease, including hand surgeons, orthopedists, plastic surgeons, physiatrists, and physiotherapists.
Contents
1. Biochemistry and Mechanism of Action of Collagenase on Collagen -- 2. Collagenase: Preclinical Evaluation and Clinical Trials in the USA and Australia -- 3. The Normal Fibrous Skeleton of the Hand and Changes in Dupuytren’s Contracture -- 4. Collagenase in Europe from the Experimental Phase to Practical Use -- 5. Preparation, Injection and Traction Procedures (Pearls and Tips and Tricks): Technical Evolution and Results in Severe Cases -- 6. Dupuytren’s Disease of the Thumb and First Web -- 7. Abstract
Dermatology clinics are extremely fast-paced, and while the internet is useful, online resources can slow clinics down as it can often take lengthy amounts of time to obtain meaningful information. Recognizing this problem, Dr. Vashi has developed, over the course of several years, a practical guide targeted towards practicing dermatologists, resident physicians, medical students, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The Dermatology Handbook provides clinical information and quick solutions to common problems typically faced by dermatologists in a user-friendly and meaningful way. Designed to fit into a coat pocket, the content is presented as bulleted lists, along with tables and algorithms to allow busy clinicians to find the information they need rapidly. Featuring fill in the blank pages for users to personalize, this handbook is at once both comprehensive and succinct. Chapters include sections on the most common dermatologic complaints, differential diagnoses, laboratory techniques, dermoscopy, dermatologic emergencies, commonly used medications, pediatrics, surgery basics, and cosmetic pearls. Drug tables, guidelines, and algorithms for history taking and treatment approach also work to provide the reader with efficient usability.
Contents
1. The Basics: Skin Types, Definitions, and Differentials -- 2. Dermoscopy Basics -- 3. Diagnosing Bedside: Common Laboratory Techniques -- 4. An Approach to Dermatopathology: Immunohistochemical and Special Stains -- 5. Dermatologic Emergencies -- 6. Common Skin Diseases: Quick Reference -- 7. Guidelines from the Academy -- 8. Abstract
This book helps scientists, clinicians and other interested individuals understand recent clinical advances and challenges for the future. It covers many basic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis C, HCV infections in particular populations, approaches to therapy, and prevention and control of HCV Infection. The book provides a succinct review of the large amount of data generated by multiple groups over the past two decades that has revealed the natural history of HCV infection. Similarly, it summarizes current understanding of the origins of HCV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and hepatic fibrosis. Extra-hepatic manifestation and metabolic disorders related to HCV infection are described. In this volume, these clinically important aspects of HCV infection are comprehensively described. Highlights are description of newly developed direct- acting antivirals. The authors represent a worldwide distribution of leaders in the field reflecting the global nature of HCV infection. Based on recent data concerning the genetic- and geographical diversity of HCV, and increased global disease burden of HCV infection, challenges for global control of HCV infections are described.

Abstract
This text is a fully updated and revised third edition of a highly successful text. The format of this text is unique and has been very successful. A total of 286 short chapters organized into 24 Sections provide operative dictation templates for all of the common and the vast majority of the uncommon and even rare operations performed by general and vascular surgeons. Each chapter also provides a succinct synopsis of the operation through bullet-ed lists which include Indications, Essential Steps, Note these Variations, and Complications. The book thus serves two purposes: these operative dictation templates can be used verbatim when dictating the operative note for a procedure; and the book provides ready reference to the trainee going into the operating room to do the procedure for the first time, or to someone preparing for their Board examinations. Space for notes allows surgeons to personalize the book and turn it into a resource unique to their situation. Fully updated and expanded, Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery, Third Edition includes significant additions that include flexible endoscopic procedures (now recognized as a core part of general surgery training and practice), single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and robotic approaches to the rectum. The endovascular procedures have been significantly expanded, as have the approaches to venous disease and to A-V fistula creation. Operative Dictations in General and Vascular Surgery, Third Edition is intended for practicing surgeons, who may modify each template to reflect their own individual practice. It also serves as a concise reminder of essential steps in those operations that may be only rarely performed.

Abstract
In the last decade, there have been several clinical trials that have studied red blood cell transfusion triggers in various Intensive Care Unit patient populations. Moreover, critically ill patients often suffer from coagulopathy. Recent studies have addressed the effectiveness of fresh frozen plasma and platelets to prevent or treat bleeding. This book offers a comprehensive summary of transfusion triggers for red blood cells in specific ICU patient populations and specific conditions with the aim to personalize transfusion strategy.áIn addition, it discusses evidence for triggers for plasma and platelets and outlines the most common adverse effects of blood transfusion in the ICU, underlining the need for a careful assessment of its risks and benefits. Transfusion in the Intensive Care Unit is a practical handbook that can be used in everyday practice to guide transfusion and thus will serve as a valuable resource for physicians, fellows and residents working in Intensive Care, Anesthesiology, and Cardiac Surgery.
Contents
