Abstract
One-Alpha® is a medication with the active ingredient alfacalcidol. This is a form of vitamin D. The liver changes alfacalcidol to calcitriol, which is a form of vitamin D that can be used by the body. Alfacalcidol helps your body control your calcium and phosphate levels. Calcium and phosphate are needed to build healthy bones. People get vitamin D from sunlight, and from eating oily fish and milk products. People with kidney disease cannot change enough vitamin D into calcitriol. This can cause low calcium levels of in the blood and weaker bones. One-Alpha® raises the amount of vitamin D in your body that can be used. How to take the medication, side effects to watch for, and how to store it are reviewed. One-Alpha® is a brand name for alfacalcidol.

This is a French translation of the English pamphlet 2056, “Ethics Tool: Help with Ethical Issues”. Ethics Nova Scotia Health supports all patients, families, volunteers, staff, and health care providers when they need help making hard choices or when there is disagreement about what is most important. Ethics is about how we connect our actions and our values. We answer ethics questions by thinking about our values, or what is important to us. When you or someone you care about is sick or hurt, it can be hard to figure out what to do. It may help to figure out what is worrying you or making you upset. It may also help to think about your choices and talk with others about what is going on. This ethics tool can help you decide what is important and what to do. It includes things to think about when exploring the issue on your own or with others, and a list of ethics resources.

This pamphlet is a French translation of the English pamphlet 1942, "Advance Care Planning: Making Your Personal and Medical Wishes Known". Advance care planning, or personal care planning, is the process of reflecting on what is important to you, to help you plan for your future medical and personal care. This pamphlet gives information about advance care planning, personal directives (PDs), delegates, what will happen if you do not have a PD, where to keep your completed PD and who should have a copy of it, when you should update your PD, and some treatments you should consider when making a PD. Information about Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) is included. A list of resources, as well as information and tools available to help you, are provided. A blank Nova Scotia Health Authority Personal Directive form is included.
