Abstract
This book provides a visual demonstration of normal and ectopic locations of parathyroid adenomas using different modalities in patients with PHPT and to describe parathyroid gland–related pathology. It includes several modern imaging modalities for localization of parathyroid glands and parathyroid adenomas, such as Sestamibi scan, SPECT/CT Sestamibi scan, neck ultrasound, MRI, thin-cut CT, and 4D CT scans. Written by experts in the field, chapters include pathology images corresponding to radiology imaging for some presented cases (gross and high-power view). Authors have also collected radiological images of difficult-to-localize parathyroid adenomas in ectopic (abnormal) locations. The atlas is organized by location of the adenomas in upper and lower eutopic locations followed by ectopic locations. Each case demonstrates dual or triple modalities such as US, Sestamibi scan, or SPECT/CT Sestamibi scan, thin-cut CT scan, or 4D CT performed on the same patient. A chapter on parathyroid pathology is also included to help the reader understand challenges in pathological interpretation. This atlas of peripheral nerve ultrasound is designed to meet the daily needs of both radiologists and clinicians by allowing rapid review of typical features, knowledge of which is important for successful diagnosis and intervention. The side by side presentation of ultrasound images with anatomical cryosections and photographs of transducer positions allows for reliable sonographic identification of even tiny nerves in regions of complex topography. The practical value of the atlas is further enhanced by correlations with high-resolution MRI scans and the inclusion of advice on state of the art examination techniques.

Abstract
Divided into two parts, this book discusses various aspects of bone SPECT-CT of ankle and foot. The first part is dedicated to foot and ankle pathology and concisely presents those disorders most frequently detected with a bone scan. The authors also describe common pathologies that cannot be diagnosed with bone scans, such as Morton's neuroma, but which nuclear physicians need to recognize. Orthopedic surgeons' expectancies are highlighted and several bone scan studies of clinical interest are presented. The second part is devoted to anatomy: bones, articulations and all relevant anatomical structures that are necessary to interpret a bone scan of the ankle and foot are described by means of anatomical illustrations with captions. At the end of the last decade, hybrid scanners with the ability to acquire single-photon emission computed tomoscintigraphy (SPECT) and multislice CT data simultaneously were introduced, thus opening a wide range of perspectives for nuclear physicians. Like their radiologist colleagues in the early 1990s, nuclear physicians have discovered pathologies that they were unaware of and have visualized increased tracer uptakes that they were previously unable to detect. This book, written by nuclear physicians and orthopedic surgeons specialized in the foot and ankle, will increase understanding of this whole new semiology. The internationally recognized Terminologia Anatomica has been used for the nomenclature of anatomical structures.

This book presents the VISCERAL project benchmarks for analysis and retrieval of 3D medical images (CT and MRI) on a large scale, which used an innovative cloud-based evaluation approach where the image data were stored centrally on a cloud infrastructure and participants placed their programs in virtual machines on the cloud. The book presents the points of view of both the organizers of the VISCERAL benchmarks and the participants. The book is divided into five parts. Part I presents the cloud-based benchmarking and Evaluation-as-a-Service paradigm that the VISCERAL benchmarks used. Part II focuses on the datasets of medical images annotated with ground truth created in VISCERAL that continue to be available for research. It also covers the practical aspects of obtaining permission to use medical data and manually annotating 3D medical images efficiently and effectively. The VISCERAL benchmarks are described in Part III, including a presentation and analysis of metrics used in evaluation of medical image analysis and search. Lastly, Parts IV and V present reports by some of the participants in the VISCERAL benchmarks, with Part IV devoted to the anatomy benchmarks and Part V to the retrieval benchmark. This book has two main audiences: the datasets as well as the segmentation and retrieval results are of most interest to medical imaging researchers, while eScience and computational science experts benefit from the insights into using the Evaluation-as-a-Service paradigm for evaluation and benchmarking on huge amounts of data.
