Abstract
This book will help the reader to recognize, diagnose, and efficiently treat most of the acute abdominal disorders that may be encountered in the pregnant patient, whether associated with or incidental to the pregnancy. A wide range of conditions are addressed, including some which are very rare as well as those more frequently seen, such as acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. The principles underlying diagnosis and therapy are clearly explained. Particular features in the clinical presentation of pregnant patients are highlighted, and specific diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, described. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic difficulties that may arise from atypical presentations in these patients and to restrictions on the use of certain diagnostic imaging studies. The text is complemented by more than 200 figures relevant to clinical practice. Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy is designed to meet the needs of both the gynecologist and the general or abdominal surgeon, who together form the multidisciplinary team mandatory for effective treatment that will safeguard mother and baby.

Abstract
This book describes the most popular topics concerning adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), especially focusing on indications and re-intervention procedures for some major ACHDs. Thanks to advances in medical and surgical therapy for congenital heart disease over the last half century, many patients who underwent surgical correction reached adulthood. However, as can be seen from the explosive increase in the number of ACHD patients, postoperative residua and sequelae have also become apparent. The purpose of this book is to highlight complicated problems in connection with ACHD, including its present status, as well as methods for its management including medical and surgical treatment. The content primarily focuses on two areas--general information for cardiologists, and information on re-intervention for interventionists and cardiac surgeons--setting it apart from the majority of books on congenital heart disease.

Abstract
Aspirin has been in clinical use for over 100 years, making it one of the oldest commonly used drugs in medicine, and is now predominantly used as an antiplatelet agent. Major new antiplatelet drug classes have recently become available for the clinician that offer the promise of major improvements in the treatment and prevention of arterial thrombotic disease. In the field of anticoagulation, the vitamin K antagonists such as warfarin have not been available for as long as aspirin in the antiplatelet field, and have also had very little in the way of competition until recently; although a number of parenteral anticoagulants have been available, the vitamin K antagonists have been the only orally active anticoagulant drugs. The last few years have seen the arrival of new drug classes, the orally active direct thrombin inhibitors and factor Xa antagonists, which offer a number of advantages, but not without important drawbacks. In the face of these important advances in both antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy, clinicians often feel confused, even overwhelmed, as to what is now available and which drugs are useful (and indicated) in which circumstances. Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant Therapy is designed with such people in mind. It is written in an easy-to-follow format and with many illustrations to aid clarity and the assimilation of information. Each chapter is written by established authorities in their fields who are also experienced in explaining often complex concepts. The result is a unique book which is not only comprehensive but also clear and useful for the busy medical practitioner.

Abstract
This book provides new perspectives on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Chapters cover atherosclerosis risk factors, the effect of growth and aging on vascular architecture, and the crucial role the microvasculature plays in atherosclerosis development. Microvascular dysfunction would explain why the well-known risk factors actually put individuals at higher risk. This pathomechanism would also hold true not only for obstructive atheroma formation but also for aneurysmal dilatation as well as for aortic and peripheral artery dissection. When seen through this lens, novel preventive and therapeutic opportunities can be envisioned. Atherosclerosis Pathogenesis and Microvascular Dysfunction proposes a single unifying mechanism of atherosclerosis development and describes potential preventative and therapeutic avenues based on this concept. It therefore represents a timely and valuable resource for internal medicine, cardiology, angiology cardiovascular surgeons, pathology clinicians, researchers, trainees, and students.

Abstract
This atlas is the result of research involving over 3,000 patients consecutively recruited since 2004. Clinical practice gives the opportunity to observe many more Aß axonal lesions (axonotmesis) than transections (neurotmesis), consequently the mapped hypo aesthetic territories are partial. Therefore, the authors define for each cutaneous nerve branch, the autonomous territory and the boundary markers of the largest territory of cutaneous origin. Each anatomical chart of a cutaneous branch is the superposition of tens, even hundreds of observations seen in clinical practice – based on 3,133 maps of observed cutaneous hypoaesthetic territories. The data collected has also been cross-referenced with that published in nearly 100 other anatomy books. This 1st English edition, based on the 3rd French edition published by Sauramps Medical, illustrates the usefulness of anatomical knowledge for clinical practice. More precisely, it seeks to demonstrate how these topographic elements can offer valuable support, both for the clinical anamnesis, and for the clinical examination of neuropathic pain patients. This atlas is at the crossroads between the medical and rehabilitation disciplines. Accordingly, it addresses the needs of medical doctors, from GPs to specialists, and of pain therapists, and offers a valuable asset for all health professionals who are dedicated to the management of pain and associated problems.

Abstract
This practical atlas describes the use of dermatoscopy in the clinic, a technique that is increasingly used by the clinical dermatologist. It revolves around the use of clinical cases, simulating what happens in the clinic when the dermatologist is presented with a patient who has pigmented and non-pigmented lesions. Dermatologists perform diagnoses based on what they see on the skin and with these images recognize different diseases. This whole spectrum of forms and shapes is reflected in color. Dermatoscopy opens a new and very wide field of structures and colors that cannot be seen with the naked eye and, with appropriate training and the use of this book, improves clinical diagnosis. Atlas of Dermatoscopy Cases: Challenging and Complex Clinical Scenarios adds significantly to the analysis of cases from the Editors’ previous volume Comprehensive Atlas of Dermatoscopy Cases by teaching the technique through specially selected, complex, and interesting clinical cases and providing the reader a thorough understanding of the techniques and methodologies associated with diagnosis using dermatoscopy. Abstract
Sleep Medicine is a field that attracts physicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds. As a result, the majority of sleep specialists who interpret sleep studies (PSG) do not have specialized training in neurophysiology and electroencephalography (EEG) interpretation. Given this and the fact that PSGs usually are run at a third of the speed of EEGs and that they usually have a limited array of electrodes, waveforms frequently appear different on the PSGs compared to the EEGs. This can lead to challenges interpreting certain unusual looking activity that may or may not be pathological. This Atlas of Electroencephalograpy in Sleep Medicine is extensively illustrated and provides an array of examples of normal waveforms commonly seen on PSG, in addition to normal variants, epileptiform and non-epileptiform abnormalities and common artifacts. This resource is divided into five main sections with a range of topics and chapters per section. The sections cover Normal Sleep Stages; Normal Variants; Epileptiform Abnormalities; Non-epileptiform Abnormalities; and Artifacts. Each example includes a brief description of each EEG together with its clinical significance, if any. Setting the booká apart from others in the field is the following feature: Each EEG discussed consists of at least three views of the same page -- one at a full EEG montage with 30mm/sec paper speed, the same montage at 10mm/sec (PSG speed) and a third showing the same thing at 10 mm/sec, but with the abbreviated PSG montage. Unique and the first resource of its kind in sleep medicine, the Atlas of Electroencephalograpy in Sleep Medicine will greatly assist those physicians and sleep specialists who read PSGs to identify common and unusual waveforms on EEG as they may appear during a sleep study and serve as a reference for them in that capacity.

Abstract
This book presents a vast collection of radiologic images of cases seen in a very busy emergency room. It encompasses common and very unusual pathology and every imaging modality. The book is divided into four parts on pathology of the vascular system, the chest, the abdomen and pelvis, and the reproductive organs. At the beginning of the presentation of each condition, the diagnosis and expected imaging features are set out. Images obtained with the modalities that best depict that particular abnormality are then presented, with marking of the salient pathology for easy understanding. Brief captions cite the clinical indication, explain the marked abnormal imaging features, and identify the modality and its characteristics. Whenever possible, differential diagnosis is covered using further images so the reader can see the spectrum of imaging features that distinguish pathologies despite similar clinical presentation. In addition, guidance is provided on selection of further modalities to confirm the diagnosis. The book will be of value to a wide audience: It will help residents to analyze different diseases and relate pathophysiology to imaging and assist students in appreciating what is normal and what is abnormal. It will serve as a useful guide to the busy practicing radiologist, especially when encountering an unusual case. Finally, it will aid clinicians in understanding the complexity of these acute clinical problems and in delivering better focused treatment.

Abstract
This is the first atlas to depict in high-resolution images the fine structure of the spinal canal, the nervous plexuses, and the peripheral nerves in relation to clinical practice. The Atlas of Functional Anatomy for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine contains more than 1500 images of unsurpassed quality, most of which have never been published, including scanning electron microscopy images of neuronal ultrastructures, macroscopic sectional anatomy, and three-dimensional images reconstructed from patient imaging studies. Each chapter begins with a short introduction on the covered subject but then allows the images to embody the rest of the work; detailed text accompanies figures to guide readers through anatomy, providing evidence-based, clinically relevant information. Beyond clinically relevant anatomy, the book features regional anesthesia equipment (needles, catheters, surgical gloves) and overview of some cutting edge research instruments (e.g. scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy). Of interest to regional anesthesiologists, interventional pain physicians, and surgeons, this compendium is meant to complement texts that do not have this type of graphic material in the subjects of regional anesthesia, interventional pain management, and surgical techniques of the spine or peripheral nerves.

Abstract
This Atlas is the first reference Atlas covering exclusively all aspects of this multifaceted topic. It is designed to serve as a succinct appropriate resource for neurosurgeons, spinal surgeons, radiologists, neurologists, microbiologists, researchers and infectious disease specialists with an interest in cranio-cerebral and vertebro-medullary infections especially encountered in neurosurgery and spinal surgery. This Atlas is designed to deliver more information in less space than traditional texts, allowing for quick review of the essential facts of this complex infectious topic through pictures. Pertinent imaging and laboratory information are combined with intraoperative photographs and illustrations to help readers visualize variable presentations and enhance their perioperative management. The comprehensive content of this richly-illustrated book covers different infectious diseases seen on neurosurgical and spinal practices. The Atlas is divided into five sections, after a general introduction, the second section focuses on infections of the brain and its coverings. The third section focuses on vertebromedullary infections. The fourth section includes infections following cranial and spinal surgery, and the fifth section provides a description of the most important specific pathogens and other particular conditions. The format makes it easily accessible and includes a definition of each infection and its epidemiology, main clinical presentations, imaging features and laboratory findings, treatment options, and prognosis information. It will help the reader in choosing the most appropriate way to manage this multipart problem. In addition, the book supplies clinicians and investigators with both basic and more sophisticated information and procedures relating to the complications associated with neurosurgical and spinal infections.

Abstract
The liver is a complex organ due to its unique microscopic structure, intricate metabolic functions and susceptibility to a wide variety of insults, manifesting in countless histological patterns. Atlas of Liver Pathology considers both changes seen in medical liver biopsies as well as lesional biopsies when the specimen has been taken from a mass. The book starts by reviewing normal structure and its variants and the optimal approaches for the preparation of histological sections for diagnostic liver pathology. The following chapters are dedicated to developmental, metabolic, infectious, drug related, autoimmune, biliary, vascular and neoplastic disorders. Two sections on liver pathology in pregnancy and transplantation conclude the work. Macroscopic illustrations are included where appropriate. All photographs are complemented by legends describing the picture and providing relevant related information. Authored by nationally and internationally recognized pathologists, Atlas of Liver Pathology is a valuable resource that serves as a quick reference guide for the diagnosis of usual and unusual diseases.

Abstract
While most current texts on the coronary artery include only a single chapter on anomalies, this is the first of its kind to focus on the challenges involved with imaging coronary artery anomalies in infants. Since the appearance of coronary artery anomalies is dramatically different in infants with commonly associated congenital heart disease, unique techniques and careful timing are required for imaging these 1-2 mm blood vessels. Additionally, many coronary anomalies are not commonly seen because the infants don’t survive past childhood. Comprised of hundreds of anomalies in infants collected over a number of years, this atlas includes 3d color-coded images, surgical reports, angiograms, CTs and MRIs, as well as detailed instructions for performing coronary CTAs in infants. The 3d models also show the relation of coronary anomalies with congenital heart disease. Atlas of Pediatric CTA of Coronary Artery Anomalies is a timely resource for pediatric cardiologists, pediatric radiologists, fellows and residents who wish to improve their skill set when faced the dual challenges of the size of the patient and the associated complex congenital heart disease seen with the coronary anomalies. This atlas is also a valuable resource for medical students, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in pediatric cardiology and pediatric radiology.
