Abstract
This second edition provides an updated review on the current guidelines and practice standards for the clinical management of cardiovascular risk factors and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Endorsed by the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, this practical textbook includes concise descriptions of major and newer risk factors, biomarkers, and best practices in the management and prevention of cardiovascular disease. The manual contains chapters on the epidemiology and risk factors for a variety of cardiovascular diseases including dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, inflammation, and ischemic stroke. It examines behavioral factors, psychosocial stress, family history, nutrition, physical activity, smoking, alcohol use, and other sociocultural factors. In addition, the book discusses new imaging strategies in detection of cardiovascular disease, prevention of heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and peripheral arterial disease, and prevention for special populations. Throughout the manual, recommendations are based on guidelines endorsed by the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and other major societies. The second edition of the ASPC Manual of Preventive Cardiology is an essential resource for physicians, medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and other healthcare professionals and researchers in cardiology, primary care, health promotion and disease prevention, exercise physiology, and pharmacotherapy.

Abstract
Despite recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic atherosclerosis, available traditional screening methods for early detection and treatment of asymptomatic coronary artery disease are grossly insufficient and fail to identify the majority of victims prior to the onset of a life-threatening event. In Asymptomatic Atherosclerosis: Pathophysiology, Detection and Treatment, Dr. Morteza Naghavi and leading authorities from the Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE) present a new paradigm for the screening and primary prevention of asymptomatic atherosclerosis. The text focuses on accurate, yet underutilized, measures of subclinical atherosclerosis, notably coronary artery calcium scanning and carotid intima-media thickness measurement. The authors introduce a comprehensive approach to identifying the vulnerable patients (asymptomatic individuals at risk of a near future adverse event). Additional chapters discuss future directions towards containing the epidemic of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease using innovative solutions such as preemptive interventional therapies (bioabsorbable stents) for stabilization of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques, mass unconditional Polypill therapy for population-based risk reduction, and ultimately vaccination strategies to prevent the development of atherosclerosis. Up-to-date and authoritative, Asymptomatic Atherosclerosis: Pathophysiology, Detection, and Treatment is a must-have for any cardiologist or primary care physician who wishes to practice modern preventive cardiology and manage the increasing number of asymptomatic atherosclerotic patients. Outlines more accurate measures of risk (coronary artery calcium and carotid intima-media thickness) than traditional risk factors (total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol). Presents new multipronged strategies to aid in the early detection and treatment of high risk asymptomatic patients.

Abstract
This book is an essential guide to the medical treatment of the cardiac patient and presents core principles of cardiovascular therapeutics as well as drug recommendations. Major classes of drugs are featured, including beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium antagonists, diuretics, and antiplatelet agents and unique insights into the controversies surrounding the use of specific drugs are explored, with answers given to the question: do beta blockers and diuretics really cause diabetes? Properties, dosage, side effects, potential salutary benefits, and drawbacks on virtually all commercially available cardiac drugs are examined. This revised edition is thoroughly updated and addresses the entire spectrum of heart disorders, such as hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and dyslipidemias. New chapters include endocrine heart diseases, management of cardiomyopathies, and newer agents. In addition, topics such as cardiac drugs in pregnancy and lactation and drug interactions are covered. Cardiac Drug Therapy, Eighth Edition, is an authoritative and clinically relevant resource for cardiologists, cardiology fellows, and internists.

Abstract
The book covers the basic science and clinical aspects of cardiovascular calcification and bone mineralization. Cardiovascular calcification is the leading predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, with a predictive value more significant than blood lipid levels. The presence of calcific mineral in cardiovascular tissues alters biomechanical performance, increasing workload on the heart and potentiating atherosclerotic plaque rupture and subsequent heart attack and stroke. This book examines the role of calcification in cardiovascular disease covering topics such as calcification in the atherosclerotic plaques and aortic valves arteries and valves, aortic valve replacement, peripheral artery disease, imaging of early calcification and target discovery. In addition, various forms of ectopic calcification as well as mechanisms of bone mineralization are discussed. Cardiovascular Calcification and Bone Mineralization is an essential resource for clinicians, researchers, and other medical professionals in cardiology, pathology, and biomedical engineering.

Abstract
The second edition of this key resource provides a broad and fundamental overview of basic cardiovascular (CV) hemodynamic principles with a focus on clinical assessment of CV physiology. Extensively updated, the book includes new coverage on noninvasive hemodynamic assessment and the effects of selected interventions on CV hemodynamics. It provides an introduction to the basic concepts such as preload, afterload, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. Subsequent chapters examine the effects of interventions such as vasodilators, beta blockers, pressor agents, inotropes, and different forms of invasive circulatory support. The book also focuses on various methods of hemodynamic evaluation including echocardiography, CT/MRI, noninvasive hemodynamic assessment, and cardiac catheterization. The book concludes with a discussion of proper diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients using hemodynamic data on a variety of specific disease states. An invaluable contribution to the Contemporary Cardiology Series, the Second Edition of Cardiovascular Hemodynamics: An Introductory Guide is an essential resource for physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, and researchers in cardiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and internal medicine.

Abstract
The significantly updated second edition of this important work provides an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), a rapidly evolving tool for diagnosis and intervention of cardiovascular disease. New and updated chapters focus on recent applications of CMR such as electrophysiological ablative treatment of arrhythmias, targeted molecular MRI, and T1 mapping methods. The book presents a state-of-the-art compilation of expert contributions to the field, each examining normal and pathologic anatomy of the cardiovascular system as assessed by magnetic resonance imaging. Functional techniques such as myocardial perfusion imaging and assessment of flow velocity are emphasized, along with the exciting areas of artherosclerosis plaque imaging and targeted MRI. This cutting-edge volume represents a multi-disciplinary approach to the field, with contributions from experts in cardiology, radiology, physics, engineering, physiology and biochemistry, and offers new directions in noninvasive imaging. The Second Edition of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging is an essential resource for cardiologists and radiologists striving to lead the way into the future of this important field.
