Abstract
This book will help the reader to recognize, diagnose, and efficiently treat most of the acute abdominal disorders that may be encountered in the pregnant patient, whether associated with or incidental to the pregnancy. A wide range of conditions are addressed, including some which are very rare as well as those more frequently seen, such as acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. The principles underlying diagnosis and therapy are clearly explained. Particular features in the clinical presentation of pregnant patients are highlighted, and specific diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, described. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic difficulties that may arise from atypical presentations in these patients and to restrictions on the use of certain diagnostic imaging studies. The text is complemented by more than 200 figures relevant to clinical practice. Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy is designed to meet the needs of both the gynecologist and the general or abdominal surgeon, who together form the multidisciplinary team mandatory for effective treatment that will safeguard mother and baby.

Abstract
This is the second edition of a well-received book that reflects the state of the art in diagnosis and treatment of acute abdominal disorders in the pregnant patient. It addresses a wide range of conditions, whether associated with or incidental to pregnancy, ranging from very rare to more common ones, such as acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis. It offers an update on recommendations, guidelines and scenarios to provide fundamental support for all clinicians who might encounter such cases. The book highlights the importance of a rapid diagnosis to avoid serious consequences for both the mother and the fetus. Furthermore, it sheds light on the different imaging modalities of rare pathologies that can occur during pregnancy, helping clinicians and radiologists to better define underlying cases. This new edition has been almost completely rewritten, and includes an additional section focusing on urologic emergencies, preterm labor and intra-abdominal pressure, as well as new figures and tables. It is equally valuable for general and abdominal surgeons, gynecologists and obstetricians, as well as emergency physicians, who may be the first specialists to have clinical contact with this group of patients. From the reviews of the first edition: "This book contains most of the information needed to address the problem of acute abdomen in pregnancy and brings state of the art principles and practice of emergency, abdominal surgery, obstetrics, gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine. The book should prompt clinicians, primarily surgeons and obstetricians to make faster and more precise diagnosis, earlier surgical interventions with the optimal outcome for the mother and child, by a multidisciplinary approach." (Translation into English; Original review: Prof. Dr. Tomislav Luetiç, Lijec Vjesn, Vol. 137 (5-6), May-June, 2015) "This book provides a detailed description of the various clinical scenarios in which we encounter acute abdominal conditions in pregnant patients. ÇŒ This is an excellent resource for practicing acute care surgeons and obstetricians/gynecologists who are most likely to encounter these patients. It also is a very useful resource for general practitioners, since they frequently are the first healthcare professionals who encounter pregnant patients with these conditions." (Prashant Khullar, Doody's Book Reviews, February, 2015).

Abstract
This book aims to equip readers with a sound understanding of the imaging strategies that are appropriate in children with acute abdominal conditions. The starting points are the clinical conditions, which are outlined in an introduction presented by pediatrician experts in emergency medicine, and the age groups, with differentiation of children and infants from neonates. The various conditions and their frequency are documented in detail, with clear description and illustration of the presentations on different imaging modalities. A large majority of the included images are from recent examinations and have been obtained using the most up-to-date techniques. The therapeutic impact of imaging is also explained, and the coverage is completed with helpful decision trees and tables of differential diagnosis. At the end of each chapter a concise resume underlines the main points. Imaging Acute Abdomen in Children will be of value for pediatric and general radiologists, radiologists in training, pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, emergency pediatricians, and others with an interest in the subject.

Abstract
This book provides up-to-date, comprehensive, and accurate information on the diagnostic imaging of nontraumatic abdominal emergencies in pediatric patients. All of the most common neonatal and pediatric emergencies are covered, with separate discussion of diseases that occur more commonly in newborns and those typically encountered later in childhood. For each condition, the main signs observed using the various imaging techniques--X-ray, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance--are described and illustrated with the aid of a wealth of images. Attention is drawn to those features of particular relevance to differential diagnosis, and the prognostic value of diagnostic imaging is also explained. The final section addresses topics of special interest, including the acute onset of abdominal neoplasms, the problems associated with radiation protection in the emergency setting, and medicolegal issues and informed content. The book will be of value for all radiologists working in emergency settings in which pediatric patients (newborn and children accessing the emergency department) are regularly examined.

Abstract
This superbly illustrated book describes a comprehensive and modern approach to the imaging of abdominal and pelvic emergencies of traumatic and non-traumatic origin. The aim is to equip the reader with a full understanding of the roles of advanced cross-sectional imaging modalities, including dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To this end, recent literature on the subject is reviewed, and current controversies in acute abdominal and pelvic imaging are discussed. Potential imaging and related pitfalls are highlighted and up-to-date information provided on differential diagnosis. The first two chapters explain an evidence-based approach to the evaluation of patients and present dose reduction strategies for multidetector CT imaging (MDCT). The remaining chapters describe specific applications of MDCT, DECT, and MRI for the imaging of both common and less common acute abdominal and pelvic conditions, including disorders in the pediatric population and pregnant patients. The book will be of value to emergency and abdominal radiologists, general radiologists, emergency department physicians and related personnel, general and trauma surgeons, and trainees in all these specialties.
