Abstract
This comprehensive text is the definitive academic pain medicine resource for medical students, residents and fellows. Acting as both an introduction and continued reference for various levels of training, this guide provides practitioners with up-to-date academic standards. In order to comprehensively meet the need for such a contemporary text—treatment options, types of pain management, and variables affecting specific conditions are thoroughly examined across 48 chapters. Categories of pain conditions include orofacial, neuropathic, visceral, neck, acute, muscle and myofascial, chronic urogenital and pelvic, acute, and regional. Written by renowned experts in the field, each chapter is supplemented with high-quality color figures, tables and images that provide the reader with a fully immersive educational experience. Academic Pain Medicine: A Practical Guide to Rotations, Fellowship, and Beyond is an unprecedented contribution to the literature that addresses the wide-spread requisite for a practical guide to pain medicine within the academic environment.

Abstract
Designed and written by a team of clinically established academics, this is a unique book that is an excellent manual for physicians practicing pain medicine or treating pain in neurosurgery, orthopedic, neurology, or family practice clinics. As a practical resource, this book is written to be more accessible to the reader and is designed to be more clinically-focused and useful in day-to-day practice. This 102 chapter volume is divided into seven separate sections: Anatomy and Physiology of Pain, Psychology of Pain, Pharmacological Treatment of Pain, Interventional Treatment of Pain, Adjuvant Therapies for Pain and Suggested Reading. The calculated organization of this book is supplemented by key photos, drawings and a self-assessment of four key questions at the end of each chapter -- thus making it an indispensable, pragmatic resource that will benefit anyone working in the pain management field. Deer's Treatment of Pain: An Illustrated Guide for Practitioners contains pearls for improving knowledge and improving one’s practice as a physician.

Abstract
This text provides a comprehensive review and expertise on various interventional cancer pain procedures. The first part of the text addresses the lack of consistency seen in the literature regarding interventional treatment options for specific cancer pain syndromes. Initially, it discusses primary cancer and treatment-related cancer pain syndromes that physicians may encounter when managing cancer patients. The implementation of paradigms that can be used in treating specific groups of cancer such as breast cancer, follows. The remainder of the text delves into a more common approach to addressing interventional cancer pain medicine. After discussing interventional options that are commonly employed by physicians, the text investigates how surgeons may address some of the more severe pain syndromes, and covers the most important interventional available for our patients, intrathecal drug delivery. Chapters also cover radiologic options in targeted neurolysis and ablative techniques, specifically for bone metastasis, rehabilitation to address patients’ quality of life and function, and integrative and psychological therapies. Essentials of Interventional Cancer Pain Management globally assesses and addresses patients’ needs throughout the cancer journey. Written by experts in the field, and packed with copious tables, figures, and flow charts, this book is a must-have for pain physicians, residents, and fellows.

In anesthesiology, pain medicine, and critical care, practitioners at all levels need help to stay current with the continually evolving drug knowledge-base, and trainees need tools to prepare for in-training and board exams that increasingly test their knowledge of pharmacology. This practical book is aimed at both readerships. It features a unique and practical chapter on the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) "black box" warnings that describe what safety precautions should be taken with commonly used drugs. The editors and contributors are pharmacology experts representing a cross-section of clinical specialties and institutions in the United States and include pharmacologists, pharmacists, as well as physicians.

Abstract
Primary care physicians are often the first caretakers to whom patients present for chronic pain. The current literature targeted at these providers is sparse, and the existing literature is very broad and large in scope and size. There are no quick pocket guides on this topic that the general practitioner may use as a point of care reference. This first of its kind text provides a practical, hands-on approach to the evaluation and treatment of chronic pain in the family medicine setting. Divided into four main sections, the first part focuses on the general approach to any patient suffering from chronic pain. Chapters in this section include the physical exam, formulating a diagnosis, formulating a variety of treatment plans including medication, physical therapy and psychiatric therapy, and specialist referral, among others. The second section focuses on evaluation and management of the chronic pain patient who requires opioid therapy. This section includes useful guidance on how to convert into morphine equivalents, interpretation of urine drug tests, and helpful office procedures for managing refills. It gives practical guidance on how to prescribe opioid reversal agents and opioid tapering regimens. A systems based approach to managing the patient is also discussed. The third section informs the reader of viable alternative and complementary treatment options. Five main treatment types are discussed each with their own separate chapter. These include musculoskeletal-based therapy, medicinal therapies, sense-based therapy, relaxation-based therapy and physical/exercise-based therapy. Given the controversy and limited training primary care physicians have on marijuana and cannabis, one chapter is dedicated specifically to inform the primary care physician on marijuana as a medicinal therapy for chronic pain. The fourth section focuses entirely on myofascial pain and trigger point therapy. The chapters in this section teach the reader how to examine and diagnose myofascial pain and distinguish between fibromyalgia. They also provide general principles of myofascial trigger point therapy and how to practically perform these in sthe clinical setting. Topics discussed include: trigger point massage, cold and stretch, isometric contraction, trigger point injection, and ischemic compression. It also includes general instruction so that the practitioner can teach patients how to perform trigger point therapy easily in their own home. The last chapter details chronic myofascial back pain and how to examine and practically treat with trigger point therapies. Evaluation and Management of Chronic Pain is a first-of-its-kind pocket-guide text specifically designed for primary care providers. It also appeals to residents, medical students and any other professional interested in treating chronic pain.

Infusion therapy is now a common practice but there is considerable variation in how the therapy is implemented in different centers which can be both dangerous, if high doses are given, or ineffective, if low doses are given. This book provides a practical guide to infusion therapy for clinicians on how to safely and effectively perform this kind of therapy. Chapters cover the pharmacology of each medication and evidence in literature regarding indications, contraindications and doses. A recommended algorithm is provided for patient selection, doses, infusion technique/doses and appropriate monitoring. Infusion Therapy is the first comprehensive, clinical guide to this practice and is an invaluable resource for clinicians in anesthesia, pain medicine, internal medicine and palliative care. It will also be of interest to researchers and pharmacologists who would like to find out how clinicians use infusions.
