Abstract
This book, richly illustrated in full colour, is a comprehensive guide to the use of local anaesthesia in dentistry that will meet the needs of both students and dental practitioners. It provides the reader with ample background information on the origin of pain and the pharmacology of anaesthetics, and describes the anatomy of the trigeminal nerve in detail. Subsequent chapters cover key are as such as general practical aspects, local anaesthesia in the upper and the lower jaw, the use of local anaesthetics in children, local and systematic complications, and the prevention of side effects. Patients at particular risk of adverse effects are identified and attention drawn to significant legal aspects. This second edition has been completely revised, with more attention to safety, environment, and sterility. Additional injection techniques have been included, and a new chapter is devoted to microprocessor-assisted administration of anaesthetics. Throughout, care has been taken to ensure that the information is clearly presented and the text is easy to read. .

Dental Care for Children
Abstract
This is the first book devoted to the oral sedation of children in the dental office in order to facilitate their dental care. The oral route of drug administration is the least predictable route in terms of behavioral and physiological outcomes. Although the outcome of oral sedations can never be guaranteed, nor the process of sedation precisely prescribed, this book will assist practitioners in administering sedation safely and to desired effect. Written by well-respected and recognized leaders, educators, clinicians, and researchers in the field of sedation and in their respective medical and dental disciplines, it reflects the latest evidenced-based practice and clinical expertise, provides guidance, and offers an abundance of consistent and helpful tips. The book is structured to cover the various key elements that must be considered when attempting to provide safe sedation for children undergoing dental procedures. Topics addressed include, among others, patient assessment, drug selection, protocol steps, emergency management, and the most up-to-date guidelines. The contents of each chapter are focused to match the specific concerns associated with the pediatric patient.
Contents
1. Introduction -- 2. Behavior and the Child -- 3. Preoperative Assessment and Review of Systems -- 4. Sedative and Anxiolytic Agents -- 5. Local Anesthetics -- 6. Clinical Sedation Regimens -- 7.
