Abstract
Focusing exclusively on the older patient with poor bone quality, this unique book presents the indications, contraindications and common techniques, as well as the risks, benefits and outcomes—for utilizing arthroplasty for the treatment of fractures in this population, sensibly divided into four thematic sections. The incidence and burden of fragility fractures is presented in part one, with considerations of the influences of osteoporosis on both treatment and healing. The subsequent three sections cover upper extremity fractures, lower extremity fractures, and peri-articular nonunions, respectively. However, far from providing a simple "how-to" for the techniques discussed, the relevant current literature is presented as well as the common techniques employed in fracture management, allowing the reader to select the best approach for the specific patient presentation. In addition, chapters are included here that cover degenerative joint conditions not typically treated with total joint replacement. The treatment of fragility fractures is constantly evolving, and the aging population is consistently expanding, creating a strong need for clinicians who have experience with and exposure to the use of arthroplasty techniques as an option in their successful treatment. Written and edited by leaders in the field, Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Fractures in the Older Patient is an invaluable resource for orthopedic surgeons, residents and support staff who see and treat these increasingly common injuries.

Abstract
This book represents the most advanced understanding of diagnosis and management of hip dysplasia in the young adult, written by the world’s leading experts and covering advanced imaging and biomechanical studies as well as latest surgical techniques. This is especially timely, as the field of hip preservation surgery is in constant evolution, and it is critical that surgeons and researchers combine their efforts to provide the best evidence-based knowledge to all health care providers evaluating and treating patients suffering from pre-arthritic hip pain. Not only does this book discuss the most up-to-date information on the etiology and natural history of hip dysplasia, as well as pathomechanics and traditional and advanced imaging, it also presents new conceptions of its classification and subsequent management. The focus throughout the book is that hip dysplasia is a problem of instability, where both the bony structure and the soft tissue envelope (i.e., capsule, ligaments and muscles) are at play. Moreover, although corrective osteotomies such as the peri-acetabular osteotomy will remain the dominant treatment option, non-surgical treatments as well as hip arthroscopy are now being increasingly recognized as useful adjuncts in order for our patients to return to their desired activities. Finally, as the longevity of joint replacement surgery has improved dramatically, this should be strongly considered in cases where the outcome of joint preserving surgery is not as predictable. Orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, physiatrists and physiotherapists alike will find this book a valuable resource when treating the young adult with symptomatic hip dysplasia.

Abstract
This book provides an up-to-date overview of shelf acetabuloplasty, a traditional procedure for acetabular dysplasia. Originally, shelf acetabuloplasty was mainly intended for the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in children and adolescents. However, secondary osteoarthritis of the hip due to DDH is more common than primary osteoarthritis, and shelf acetabuloplasty was subsequently applied to such cases in adults. Recently, periacetabular pelvic osteotomies, such as the rotational acetabular osteotomy have established themselves and are broadly indicated as joint-preserving operations for secondary hip osteoarthritis. With the increased interest in pelvic osteotomies, the role of shelf acetabuloplasty as a reliable and safe procedure now needs to be redefined. Each chapter was prepared by an expert in his or her field. The authors highlight the essence of the indication, discuss advanced and cutting-edge techniques, and assess the outcomes of shelf acetabuloplasty. Taken together, they provide a valuable contribution to hip surgery.
Contents
1. Shelf Acetabuloplasty in Comparison with Curved Periacetabular Osteotomy: An Opinion Based on the Perspective of Experienced Surgeons with Limited Experience with Shelf Acetabuloplasty -- 2. Short-Term Results of Reverse Shelf Osteotomy -- 3. Less Invasive Shelf Acetabuloplasty for Patients with Dysplasia of the Hip -- 4. The Modified Spitzy Shelf Operation Using Absorbable Fixation Device -- 5. Endoscopic Shelf Acetabuloplasty in the Treatment of Hip Dysplasia -- 6. Advantages and Limitations of Shelf Acetabuloplasty for Dysplastic Osteoarthritis of the Hip -- 7. Indications and Midterm Results of Modified Spitzy Acetabuloplasty for Osteoarthritis of the Hip -- 8. Indications for Shelf Acetabuloplasty and Rotational Acetabular Osteotomy for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.
