Abstract
Sports participation at both amateur and professional levels has increased enormously in recent decades, impacting positively on all aspects of health except musculoskeletal injuries. Acute muscle injuries account for approximately 20% of all injuries in sports and pose an increasing challenge for athletes and medical practitioners. This book documents current knowledge and standards of care for acute muscle injuries. The full range of injuries is covered, including those to the hamstring, hip adductor, quadriceps, calf, pectoralis major, biceps brachii, latissimus dorsi, and rectus abdominis muscles. Evidence-based content is combined with experience from medical experts from around the globe in order to provide the reader with a full picture of the latest insights into terminology, trauma mechanisms, basic principles of healing, diagnosis, and treatment. Helpful diagnostic and treatment algorithms are included, and clear guidance provided on ensuring optimal rehabilitation and rapid return to sports. Acute Muscle Injuries is structured in such a way that it will serve as an ideal reference manual for orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, physiotherapists, general practitioners, paramedics, sports managers, athletes, and coaches. The authors are all scientifically active in the field of sports medicine and also well known for their great clinical experience in the care of acute muscle injuries.

Abstract
This book describes the current applications of arthroscopy in a very wide range of sports injuries involving, among other sites, the hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist. For each condition, mechanisms of injury are explained and the role of arthroscopy in diagnosis and treatment is described. Relevant information is also provided on the epidemiology and mechanisms of injury in specific sports and on indications for treatment and rehabilitation. The book fully reflects the recent advances that have taken place in arthroscopy, permitting more accurate assessment and more successful management of post-traumatic pathologies. Furthermore, it acknowledges that as a result of the increasing use of new technologies and biomaterials, there is now particular interest in techniques that promote biological healing of articular lesions and permit complete functional recovery. The authors are leading specialists in the field who have aimed to provide practitioners with the clear guidance that they require on the evaluation and treatment of injuries incurred during sporting activity.

Abstract
This book is a comprehensive guide to the diagnosis and treatment of injuries to the elbow joint incurred by athletes of all ages during participation in sports such as tennis, golf, baseball, volleyball, weight lifting, and javelin throwing. The coverage includes the evaluation and management of medial and lateral elbow pain, degenerative elbow, distal biceps and triceps tendon injuries, posterior impingement and nerve compression syndromes, dislocations, and fractures. General guidance is also provided on injury prevention, physical examination, imaging, the use of endoscopy, and rehabilitation. Clinical anatomy of the elbow is thoroughly described and a chapter on biomechanics explains the basic science of the discussed pathologies. Elbow and Sport is a book project initiated by the Elbow and Wrist Committee of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) with the aim of describing sports-related elbow pathologies from diagnosis to conservative or surgical treatment. The authors include some of the most eminent experts in elbow surgery from Europe and elsewhere in the world. The guidelines proposed in the book will be invaluable for all specialists in upper limb sport lesions, including surgeons, sport medicine doctors, and physiotherapists.

Abstract
Integrating MRI findings associated with the spectrum of problems seen in the most commonly treated joints in sports medicine with the diagnostic findings seen during arthroscopy of the same joint in the same patient, this unique text correlates this pathology and applies these findings to the clinic, the radiology reading room, and the operating suite. Representing a microcosm of daily patient care, this type of interactive correlation is an exceedingly effective tool for education and continued learning, an impetus for interdisciplinary research collaboration, and a critical part of an approach to optimum patient care. Furthermore, this case-based correlation between MRI imaging and arthroscopic findings and treatment is a well-received and effective method for teaching and discussion at meetings and instructional courses. MRI-Arthroscopy Correlations is organized into four sections highlighting the four major joints in which MRI and arthroscopy are most commonly used in sports medicine: knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip. Chapters are formatted to present an overview of the specific disease entity first, followed by selected cases chosen by the chapter authors that best illustrate common or noteworthy disease entities or pathology with an emphasis on the parallel MRI imaging and arthroscopic findings. Each of the section editors, as well as the volume editor, are nationally recognized experts, teachers, and pioneers in their respective areas of sports medicine and have covered the gamut of topics in each of their sections. Taken together, this will be an invaluable resource for sports medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons and musculoskeletal radiologists alike, promoting increasingly accurate diagnoses of pathology and advanced treatment options to aid in the optimization of patient care and recovery.

Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of platelet rich plasmas (PRPs) in the field of regenerative medicine. The book begins with an overview of the basic science behind PRP, describing the role of platelets and growth factors followed by the most important biological effects expected from the use of PRPs. Platelet Rich Plasma in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Maxillofacial surgery includes numerous contributions detailing the rapidly growing field of PRPs in clinical practice. From the origins in oral and maxillofacial surgery, to the latest advances in orthopaedics and sports medicine including the use of Platelet Rich Growth Factors (PRGF) in muscle, bone, tendon, ligament and nerve injuries among others. The volume concludes with contributions from experts in biology, orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, where the convergence of expertise is leading to unprecedented insights into how to minutely control the in vivo fate and function of PRGF. This book will provide a useful resource for physicians and researchers interested in the rapidly changing field of biomedicine and learning more about this growing area of treatment.
Contents

Abstract
This book explores in a comprehensive manner the best current treatment options for sports injuries of the foot and ankle. Particular attention is devoted to advanced surgical techniques, with practical and clear explanation of every step of the described procedures. The coverage encompasses management of the full range of ligament, bone and joint, and tendon injuries, and a concluding section addresses special considerations such as outcome assessment and advances in rehabilitation techniques. Foot and ankle injuries are extremely common in athletes and may endanger their sporting activity. The approach to these injuries is constantly evolving with the aim of achieving the best possible functional restoration. In presenting a state of the art update covering all aspects of treatment, this book will be of value for established foot and ankle surgeons, fellows and residents in orthopaedics, and all those involved in sports medicine. The authors are leading international experts renowned within their fields, and the book is published in collaboration with ISAKOS.
