Abstract
This book focuses specifically on the management of cardiovascular disease in elderly patients with particular frailties and in the "oldest old". It is clearly explained how treatment in these patients differs from that in patients in their seventies who respond well to therapies and do not present frailties or organ failures. Although not young, the latter patients can be treated almost like any other patient, according to established guidelines. In contrast, the frail, compromised elderly and the oldest old require specific measures that target their needs, including with respect to underlying renal conditions. The book considers all those pathologies that have a high prevalence in the general population, explaining advanced treatment concepts and all aspects of assessment. Key clinical points are highlighted, and the text is supplemented with numerous informative figures and tables. The authors are respected experts, for the most part geriatric physicians, and the book is especially addressed to cardiologists, who may lack the described targeted information and treatment tools.
Contents
1. Introduction: The Specificity of Geriatric Cardiology -- 2. Cardiovascular Disease in the Oldest Old: A Geriatric Epidemiology Perspective -- 3. Molecular Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Aging -- 4. Frailty and Heart Disease -- 5. Evidence-Based Versus Evidence-Biased Medicine in Geriatric Cardiology: From Trials to Real World -- 6. Polypharmacy -- 7. Syncope and Unexplained Falls in the Elderly -- 8. Hypertension in the Oldest Old, Beyond Guidelines -- 9. New Challenges in Aortic Stenosis in the Elderly: From Epidemiology to TAVI -- 10. Aging Kidney: Vascular Characteristics and Assessment -- 11. Risk Assessment in Cardiac and Noncardiac Surgery in Older Patients -- 12. Atrial Fibrillation in the Elderly -- 13. Abstract
There has been an exponential increase in the amount of information available on the pathophysiology and management of heart diseases. Meanwhile, understanding of the underlying pathology and physiology has deepened and broadened with new methodologies to monitor cardiac structure and function. These developments have led to an overwhelming amount of information available to students, trainees, and physicians. What is in short supply is a comprehensive yet concise and clear description of the important cardiac conditions and disorders, an approach to their management, and an easily consulted and well-indexed summary to be used at the bedside or in the clinic. This book addresses that need.

Abstract
This book is a comprehensive and up-to-date resource on the use of regenerative medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. It provides a much-needed review of the rapid development and evolution of bio-fabrication techniques to engineer cardiovascular tissues as well as their use in clinical settings. The book incorporates recent advances in the biology, biomaterial design, and manufacturing of bioengineered cardiovascular tissue with their clinical applications to bridge the basic sciences to current and future cardiovascular treatment. The book begins with an examination of state-of-the-art cellular, biomaterial, and macromolecular technologies for the repair and regeneration of diseased heart tissue. It discusses advances in nanotechnology and bioengineering of cardiac microtissues using acoustic assembly. Subsequent chapters explore the clinical applications and translational potential of current technologies such as cardiac patch-based treatments, cell-based regenerative therapies, and injectable hydrogels. The book examines how these methodologies are used to treat a variety of cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction, congenital heart disease, and ischemic heart injuries. Finally, the volume concludes with a summary of the most prominent challenges and perspectives on the field of cardiovascular tissue engineering and clinical cardiovascular regenerative medicine. Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine is an essential resource for physicians, residents, fellows, and medical students in cardiology and cardiovascular regeneration as well as clinical and basic researchers in bioengineering, nanomaterial and technology, and cardiovascular biology.

Abstract
This guide is an essential tool to aid the clinician in the efficient management of adult patients with disorders of the heart and blood vessels. The content is designed for use by all health professionals caring for persons with cardiovascular conditions, ranging from the most common, such as systemic arterial hypertension and atrial fibrillation, to the most rare conditions, such as Brugada Syndrome and atrial giant cell myocarditis. The pages are rich in information that will aid both cardiovascular specialists as well as primary care/family medicine physicians and nurse practitioners, whose practices are composed of up to 50% of patients with at least one form of cardiovascular disease. In this book, the author has collated current diagnostic criteria for all primary adult cardiovascular disorders. The book assists as a point of care reference by combining established principles of disease management protocols with effective differential diagnosis algorithms. Unlike traditional books, Clinical Guide to Cardiovascular Disease is specifically designed for rapid access to disease information, segregated into keyword data elements organized under 20 separate headings relevant to clinical care. In addition, external links to key articles, Guidelines, patient information, and supplemental and updated information are provided for every condition.

Abstract
This book considers several clinical and interventional topics for which there is either uncertainty, continued debate and/or no consensus based on current guidelines. Leading international experts explore each controversy, probing the existing evidence and current opinions. Each chapter outlines the unresolved issues and includes a balanced and scholarly discussion of the subject, concluding with possible solutions and learned opinions on the subject. While there are many guidelines in cardiology, new and on-going trials that address new treatments indicate that there are still many unanswered questions. Controversies in Cardiology provides a concise approach to aid busy cardiologists and trainees in choosing the most suitable management solutions and correctly applying these to their patients.

Abstract
This book reviews all aspects of the diagnosis and management of heart disease in women, covering areas such as gender differences in metabolic syndrome, hypertension and atherogenesis. Gender differences in cardiovascular diseasesáare widespread, but while gender medicine takes into account the effects of sex and gender on the health of women and men, traditionally, women have been underrepresented in cardiovascular clinical trials, in management of different cardiac diseases and drug use. Gender Differences in the Pathogenesis and Management of Heart Diseaseádeals with the gender-specific differences in cardiac physiology and diseases and brings into perspective the critical significance of gender in management of cardiovascular disease presentations and management. As such it is of enormous use to all clinical staff who manage women with cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
This book provides a comprehensive framework for developing heart teams to manage a variety of cardiovascular diseases. Management of cardiovascular diseases has changed dramatically in recent years due to developments in evidence-based practices and treatments as well as the introduction of new devices. The sequential method of referring patients from doctor to doctor is becoming an antiquated model. The future of cardiac care lies in developing multidisciplinary "Heart Teams" to provide patient-focused treatment for complex cardiovascular problems. This volume examines the history and evolution of cardiovascular care and technology and explains why the implementation of heart teams is absolutely necessary to the future of cardiac care. It analyzes the role of heart teams for heart failure, complex coronary revascularization, mitral valve disease, cardiac imaging, aortic valve disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and women's heart health. Finally, the book explores how heart teams work with hospital administration and the broader healthcare industry. Heart Teams for Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease: A Guide for Advancing Patient-Centered Cardiac Care is an essential resource for physicians and related professionals, residents, fellows, and graduate students in cardiology, cardiac surgery, critical care medicine, and radiology.
Contents
1. Heart Teams as a New Gold Standard of Cardiac Care -- 2. Complex Coronary Revascularization Heart Team -- 3. Heart Teams for Aortic Valve Disease: The TAVI Revolution -- 4. Abstract
This book is a detailed guide to a new integrative approach to the prevention and treatment of various cardiac disorders and risk factors, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. This approach combines various strategies, including metabolic cardiology, low-dose medicine, exercise programs, stress management programs, evaluation for inherited risk factors, and various other healing modalities. Metabolic cardiology focuses on the prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease at the cellular level through biochemical interventions with nutritional supplements that can promote energy production in the heart. Low-dose medicine, on the other hand, interprets pathological phenomena as an imbalance in intercellular signaling that may be corrected through the administration of low physiological doses of messenger molecules. Therapies outside of mainstream medicine may also be deployed in integrative cardiology, for example acupuncture, herbal medicine, and homeopathy. Integrative Cardiology will be of interest to all practitioners wishing to learn about an approach that incorporates the incredible advances in medication and technology with a focus on nutrition, lifestyle, and mind–body influences.

Abstract
This textbook is a readily accessible educational tool for all fellows undertaking subspecialty training in interventional cardiology, while also serving as a refresher to early career interventional cardiologists. The key objective is to equip the reader with an evidence-based expert-led resource focussed primarily on pre-procedural planning, peri-procedural decision-making, and the salient technical aspects of performing safe and effective coronary intervention, the intention being to support the therapeutic decision-making process in the emergency room, coronary care unit or cath lab in order to optimize patient outcome. The Interventional Cardiology Training Manual provides readers with a step-by-step guide to the basic principles underpinning coronary intervention and facilitates rapid access to best practice from the experts, presented in a pragmatic, digestible and concise format. Uniquely, each chapter has been written in a heart center-specific manner, affording the reader an opportunity to learn how individual institutions perform a specific procedure, which algorithms and guidelines they follow and what evidence they draw on to instigate the best possible care for their patients.
