Abstract
This book critically examines the many complex entanglements between AIDS activism and HIV science. It takes readers on a medical anthropological expedition across time and space that highlights the stakes from the perspective of those most affected by the epidemic. Author Robert Lorway reveals how early in the HIV epidemic, amid inadequate government leadership, communities of people living with and directly affected by HIV and AIDS rose to become a vital force at the forefront of prevention responses. Yet now, more than three decades later, HIV prevention and treatment is increasingly being placed under the jurisdiction of clinical, epidemiological, and management scientific expertise. In this kind of context, where does activism figure into the possibility of more democratized collaborations between affected communities, scientists, and policy makers? Coverage draws upon the findings from an array of community research projects conducted in Canada, India, and Kenya over a 22-year period. It weaves together rich, original data sources that range from in-depth qualitative interviews, field notes, and primary and secondary archival document retrievals in these three regions. Offering a rich diversity in perspectives, this book tackles the broader themes related to global health policy, science, and transnational activism at the same time as it highlights the experiences and local arenas where debates about activism and science play out. In the end, Lorway questions the growing expectation for affected communities themselves to produce sound evidence to legitimize their advocacy projects. He calls for the planners and implementers of biomedically oriented HIV research and interventions to more meaningfully engage with communities in ways that de-monopolize decision making as a matter of ethics and improved scientific practice.

Abstract
This casebook profiles exceptional traumatic injury prevention programs from all over the globe. Its detailed description and analysis employ a multi-stage process of identifying, evaluating, and casing effective prevention practices. The case studies reflect how legislative and regulatory information impact prevention efforts and provides insight into how national centers for injury prevention and control inform prevention practices on countrywide levels. The authors work with outcome-based research criteria to select and develop their comprehensive and contextually aware profiles of the programs. All included case studies follow the BRIO approach (Background, Resources, Implementation, and Outcome) – a model designed to provide a consistent way of describing programs that have been evaluated and found to be exceptional practices. The scope of the Casebook ranges across. The challenge of traumatic injury prevention Sports and recreation-related traumatic injury prevention Fall-related traumatic injury prevention Road traffic-related traumatic injury prevention Traumatic injury prevention within complex systems In its recognition of traumatic injury prevention across the lifespan as a critical and complex public health challenge, the Casebook of Traumatic Injury Prevention promises to be an influential and authoritative resource for professionals and students in public health, safety, injury prevention, medicine, psychology, sociology, nursing, and engineering. Government agencies and institutions such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health departments, and safety associations also would find the Casebook relevant to their work.

The fifth edition’s most prominent two new features are: 1) its intentional focus on social justice and health equity, and 2) the deliberate incorporation of Indigenous content in virtually every chapter. In acknowledgement of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, the recent Memorandum of Understanding between the Community Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC) and the Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association (CINA), and nursing’s obligation to include Indigenous content and ways of knowing into our curriculum, this edition reflects our concerted effort to involve Indigenous consultants and contributors.

Abstract
Palliative Care for Chronic Cancer Patients in the Community: Global Approaches and Future Applications offers a much-needed account of the current state of global palliative care in the community – the good, the bad and, especially, the hopeful. This extraordinary compendium, with chapters form 46 countries, edited by Professor Michael Silbermann, tells the remarkable stories of palliative care - from grass-root efforts by volunteers in resource-constrained countries such as India to the full integration of palliative care in high-resource countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. What is so unique about this book is that it captures the enormous range and diversity of palliative care efforts: some led by nurses (Iran), some led by governments (Turkey) and many led by local charities and non-governmental agencies. Readers of this textbook can also learn about the challenges of a government-led palliative care initiative in the post-genocide era in Rwanda or the attempts to provide palliative care services in the conflict zones of Iraq, Palestine and Sudan. Contextual issues requiring cultural sensitivity in Afghanistan, Latin America and the Middle East present a real picture of both the exceptional leadership and environmental hardships that palliative care advocates face in their journeys forward. Each of the 53 chapters in the book tells a narrative of the country’s own experience, thus creating a source of on the ground information outlining the barriers, challenges and successes as individual efforts progress. Many reports in the book point toward real change and hope as they relate to healthcare providers becoming empowered advocates for their patients. There are high expectations for the role of nurses to continue to grow. Educating and engaging patients, and the families in their care, has had a measurably positive impact on outcomes. The collaborative spirit of this book gives voice to the incredible vision, tenacity and resilience of the teams of professionals and their supporters who work in palliative care, particularly those who work in the community. In addition, it underscores that all future efforts can only be successful with the concerted and continuous commitments of governments, academics and NGOs across and within national boundaries. - HRH Princess Dina Mired President – Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
