- The diagnostic services—pathology and radiology—are the cornerstone for supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare by providing timely and accurate diagnosis. In this era of precision medicine, it has become increasingly important for these two services to work collaboratively in supporting patients and clinical colleagues by informing and communicating the selection and interpretation of appropriate diagnostic tests, as well as obtaining adequate tissue for diagnosis, prognostication, and therapy at initial presentation and, if required, during disease progression/relapse. This book is aimed at practicing cytopathologists and interventional radiologists as well as trainees in these areas. An essential requirement in the accurate diagnosis of these mass lesion biopsies is the correlation of cytomorphology with the radiological findings and adequate triage of acquired material during the biopsy procedure. The cytologic findings, gross surgically resected specimens, and imaging findings are illustrated to provide a complete pathologic-radiologic correlation of the entities discussed. This Atlas of Cytopathology and Radiology serves as a useful guide for pathologists and radiologists in the appropriate triage and diagnosis of deep seated mass lesions biopsied under ultrasound, CT Scan or fluoroscopic guidance.

- This book is the culmination of an international effort to bring consistency and diagnostic efficiency to effusion cytology for the sake of patient care. The authors recognize special challenges in serous fluid cytopathology, such as reporting the presence of Mullerian epithelium in peritoneal fluids. What is an appropriate serous fluid volume to ensure adequacy? How should mesothelial proliferations be reported and is it appropriate to make an interpretation of malignant mesothelioma? How specific should a report be regarding the origin and subtyping of tumors found in serous fluids? What are the appropriate quality monitors for this specimen type? Special chapters on considerations for peritoneal washings, cytopreparatory techniques, mesothelioma and quality management are included to address these issues. The text contains literature reviews that elucidate existing evidence in support of current practices and recommendations. Expert opinions on where evidence was lacking, the most common practices were adopted by consensus, and where there was no commonality, are employed. Written by experts in the field, The International System for Serous Fluid Cytopathology serves as a collaborative effort between the International Academy of Cytology and the American Society for Cytopathology and calls upon participation of the international cytopathology and oncology communities to contribute to the development of a truly international system for reporting serous fluid cytology.

- This book focuses primarily on the most efficient way to make an accurate FNA diagnosis of metastatic tumors within the broad confines of cytopathology. The text provides a step-by-step "thought process" during the diagnostic approach of the metastatic tumors using detailed algorithms. Starting from the onsite immediate FNA sample assessment, the book provides strategy of specimen triage to facilitate further cytology evaluation based on the metastatic patterns and morphologic patterns of the tumors. In the subsequent chapter, the book provides tips and traps of selecting markers and interpretation of immunoperoxidase, flow cytometric, cytogenetic and molecular studies. The book includes the strategy of dealing with limited FNA material and wisely use existing samples (cell block, direct smear, cytospin) for different ancillary studies including molecular tests that have been used at MD Anderson. The author highlights challenging issues to show the importance of using a multidisciplinary (clinical, radiologic, cytologic and ancillary studies) approach. Extensive illustrations are provided. Metastatic Neoplasms in Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology will provide pathology residents, fellows, practicing cytopathologists and cytotechnologists with a practical way to approach metastatic malignancies in daily cytology practice as well as provide a vision of the future of cytopathology.
