Pitfalls and associated abnormalities are emphasized throughout. Avoid misdiagnoses. Normal anatomy is outlined alongside schemes for detecting variants of the norm. Each chapter concludes with a summary of key points. Will provide a useful overview of the most important features in diagnosis and interpretation.Easily grasp difficult anatomical concepts. Radiographs accompanied by clear, explanatory line-drawings.

Abstract
Alcohol, Nutrition, and Health Consequences provides practical, data-driven resources to help the reader understand the basics, treatments and preventive strategies that are involved in the understanding of how alcohol may affect healthy individuals as well as those with chronic alcohol use with or without relevant infectious diseases, obesity, diabetes and/or neurocognitive declines. It will also help the clinician define the causes and types of nutritional changes due to alcohol use and also explain how nutrition can be used to ameliorate its consequences. Chapters present the application of current nutritional knowledge by physicians and dietitians. Specific areas involving alcohol-related damage due to nutritional changes are reviewed, including heart disease, obesity, digestive tract cancers, lactation, brain function, and liver disease. In addition, alcohol's effects on absorption of minerals and nutrients, a key role in causing damage are treated. The importance of diet in modifying alcohol and its metabolite damage is also explained. Alcohol, Nutrition, and Health Consequences is essential reading for alcohol therapists and researchers as well as primary care physicians and dietitians and is an easy reference to help the clinician, student, and dietitian comprehend the complex changes caused by direct and indirect effects of ethanol at the cellular level via its nutritional modification.

Abstract
This volume provides fresh insights and management understanding of the changing role of the ambulance services against the backdrop of massive cuts in health budgets around the world and the changing context of pre-hospital care within the wider healthcare networks. The challenges of funding, training and cultural transformation are now felt globally. The book offers critical insights into the theory and practice of strategic and operational management of ambulance services and the leadership needs for the service. One of the highlight of this volume is to bring together scholarship using experts--academics, practitioners and professionals in the field, to each of the chosen topics. The chapters are based in the practical experiences of the authors and are written in a way that is accessible and suitable for a range of audiences. We are confident that this book will cater to a wider audience to inform policy and practice, both in the UK and internationally. Paresh Wankhade is Professor of Leadership and Management at Edge Hill University, UK Kevin Mackway-Jones is the Medical Director at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, UK. This unique and valuable publication, charts the history and development of the ambulance service in England over the last hundred years or so. The role of this key emergency service has always been important, and arguably never more so than today. The contributing authors have not only provided the reader with great insights into where the service has come from and the leadership challenges it has, and continues to face; it also gives examples of how the future could look as our journey of transformation continues. Peter Bradley CBE, MBA (and author of Taking Healthcare to the Patient 2005), Chief Executive Officer. St John National Headquarters, New Zealand "With a year on year increase in demand for emergency ambulances and over 9 million calls annually, the UK Ambulance Service must change from its emergency care and transport focus model. Whilst there is some historical and cultural resistance to change there is a need for further development in clinical skills and a new perspective for the future Ambulance Service. This book brings together practitioners, managers, academics and provides a broad understanding of the major management issues in the UK Ambulance Service. It includes the history of the Ambulance Service, quality and risk management issues, commissioning, leadership, intra-operability and shape of the future ambulance service. The content will be of interest to students, practitioners and academics". Sir Keith Porter, Professor of Clinical Traumatology, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, United Kingdom.

Abstract
The APICE 2013 yearbook examines recent advances in various aspects of critical care medicine and highlights the importance of effective communication among researchers, scientists, and clinicians. Among the many topics addressed are trauma care organization, the management of patients with cardiovascular, kidney, and lung disorders, issues relating to severe infections and sepsis, and the humanization of end of life care. The overriding goal of the book is to provide guidance and stimulate further thought on how professional performance in critical care medicine can be improved. "Triple B" translational research, from the bench to the bedside and back again (via the translation of clinical observations into new research questions), will play a major role in this context, and is particularly discussed in the chapter about sepsis and organ dysfunction. There is no doubt that the transfer of far-reaching and dynamic developments in molecular and cellular biology into clinical practice will be a key component in delivering the care required by individual patients.

Abstract
Anesthesia for Trauma is a comprehensive, clinically oriented text for practitioners and trainees in anesthesia, pain management, and critical care. It covers core topics, from initial assessment and blood and blood products, to the multi-trauma patient and trauma by major anatomical region. Burns receive especially extensive coverage. Special considerations when administering anesthesia to traumatically injured children, pregnant women, and older people are reviewed, as are foundational areas such as clinically relevant physiology and the growing role of trauma simulation in training. Readers will find leading edge coverage of microvascular surgery, pain management, and critical care of trauma patients as well as up-to-date chapters on trauma in the military, civilian trauma systems, and disaster management. The book concludes with a unique 'must-read' chapter for all clinicians on the link between substance abuse and penetrating trauma.

Abstract
This book provides a broad international perspective on the psychological trauma faced by children and adolescents exposed to major disasters, and on the local public health response to their needs. An outstanding quality of the book is that it draws upon the experience of local researchers, clinicians, and public mental health practitioners who dedicated themselves to these children in the wake of overwhelming events. The chapters address exemplary responses to a wide variety of trauma types, including severe weather, war, industrial catastrophes, earthquakes, and terrorism. Because disasters do not recognize geographic, economic, or political boundaries, the chapters have been selected to reflect the diverse global community’s attempt to respond to vulnerable children in the most challenging times. The book, thus, examines a diverse range of healthcare systems, cultural settings, mental health infrastructure, government policies, and the economic factors that have played an important role in responses to traumatic events. The ultimate goal of this book is to stimulate future international collaborations and interventions that will promote children’s mental health in the face of disaster.
