Abstract
This book identifies the most common presentations and essential features of top dermatological conditions in patients with skin of color. It presents practical information in a case-based organization to assist dermatologists in clinical decision making, and discusses important cultural beliefs that must be considered in order to provide optimal care to patients with skin of color. There is an increasing demand for dermatologic treatments in patients with skin of color, as well as an accompanying need for education and training in this quickly expanding market. Skin of color is a key topic within dermatology as specific conditions can be harder to diagnose effectively in darker skin, and patients' treatment can be compromised by this. Clinical Cases in Skin of Color: Adnexal, Inflammation, Infections, and Pigmentary Disorders is a concise resource with practical guidance for board certified dermatologists and dermatologists in training.

Abstract
Cultural Competence in Health Care A Guide for Professionals Wen-Shing Tseng, University of Hawaii, Honolulu Jon Streltzer, University of Hawaii, Honolulu Between a growing pan-ethnic patient base, the need to solve inequalities of care, and the clinical desirability of viewing clients in their entirety, applied cultural knowledge is emerging as a major goal of clinical and public health practice. Cultural Competence in Health Care offers a wealth of this crucial knowledge with emphasis on day-to-day clinical work. Authors Tseng and Streltzer, well-known experts on transcultural medicine and therapy, start by differentiating between disease and illness and advise on a range of practical matters, from discussing culturally sensitive subjects to negotiating compromises between traditional healing and established medicine, so that readers will gain both useful working techniques and valuable empathy with clients. Case studies highlight medical issues as they apply to various minority (and majority) groups, and eight insightful chapters reveal cultural dimensions expressed in: Concepts of illness and illness behaviors. Assessment, interviews, and symptom presentation. Hospitalization, medication, family involvement, consent issues. Highly charged medical areas, e.g., pain management, transfusions, reproductive issues, organ donation. Frequently stigmatized conditions such as AIDS, STDs, cancer, and psychiatric disorders. Care by non-medical professionals, including social workers, physical therapists, and nutritionists. Cultural Competence in Health Care is equally suited to use by practitioners and students in medicine, psychology, nursing, social work, and affiliated fields. And since it's one of the only practice-oriented books on the topic, cross-cultural courses in training programs will find it especially useful.

Abstract
No other hospital department cares for patients as diverse as those who come to the Emergency Department (ED). These patients encompass all stages and positions of life and health. Many belong to distinct minority cultures defined by the patient's sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, spirituality, language, race, and ethnicity. It has been well documented that minorities experience inadequate emergency treatment and face poorer healthcare outcomes. Furthermore, research has established that the elderly, ethnic minorities, the poor, and persons with Medicaid coverage are more likely than other people to utilize the emergency department rather than primary care services. With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, particularly the Medicaid expansion, EDs across the United States are poised to care for an unprecedented number of underserved minorities. The need to equip emergency healthcare professionals to practice medicine that is culturally competent in the broadest possible sense has never been greater. Diversity and Inclusion in Quality Patient Care aims to fill this need.

Abstract
In the context of the most significant influx of migrants in European history, the objective of this book is to provide healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills to effectively treat and prevent cardiovascular diseases in ethnic minorities. Acknowledging that the scientific and cultural training of health professionals on the specific health needs of minority groups is still limited and likely biased, the book sheds light on the different health policies in European countries as well as epidemiologic data on cardiovascular events among migrants. In addition, it presents an in-depth analysis of potential ethnic-group-specific drivers of global cardiovascular risk within this new and challenging framework—as well as issues related to its prevention and treatment. The prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, obesity, and metabolic syndrome is found to be higher among most minority groups than in the native population, yet their access to treatment and health services may be limited by cultural and language barriers. As health professionals are confronted with such intercultural challenges on a daily basis, specific training and dedicated publications are thus essential to accompany and foster a constructive development towards a pluralist and healthier society. This book addresses that need, offering a unique and revealing resource.

The ethnic composition of Britain's population is changing rapidly as the 21st century progresses. Some commentators predict a catastrophic future of increasing ethnic segregation and community breakdown, whereas others say that the benefits of ethnic pluralism and cultural diversity will lead to a more integrated society. This book addresses many of the key issues and debates associated with ethnicity and integration in Britain. It provides the reader with an enhanced understanding of ethnic p…

Abstract
The ethnic composition of Britain's population is changing rapidly as the 21st century progresses. Some commentators predict a catastrophic future of increasing ethnic segregation and community breakdown, whereas others say that the benefits of ethnic pluralism and cultural diversity will lead to a more integrated society. This book addresses many of the key issues and debates associated with ethnicity and integration in Britain. It provides the reader with an enhanced understanding of ethnic population change and residential concentration, ethnic household dynamics, internal and international migration, the relationship between ethnicity and health, crime, identity and language, as well as ethnic population projections. Collectively, the findings presented here constitute an evidence base for policymakers and practitioners to draw upon when formulating solutions to the range of problems at local, regional and national level that are associated with an increasingly multi-ethnic society. This book is the third volume of the interdisciplinary series entitled "Understanding Population Trends and Processes". Volume 1 reports the findings of research on fertility, living arrangements, care and mobility, whilst Volume 2 contains selected studies of spatial and social disparities in Britain using various secondary data sets.
