Abstract
Treatment by means of dental implants has become increasingly common, but it is now recognized that cementation during the restorative phase can be the source of significant problems. Nevertheless, few dentists have a clear understanding of why related disease processes arise and there is a similar lack of awareness of the factors to be considered in cement selection, which all too often appears essentially arbitrary. This book examines in detail the issues associated with cementation in dental implantology, with a particular focus on residual excess cement and its consequences. It provides reliable guidance on cement selection and use on the basis of the latest scientific research. Among the topics addressed are microbial aspects of cement selection, new abutment designs, aesthetic considerations, margin placement, and the role of radiography. The relation of peri-implant disease to residual excess cement is explored in depth, and alternatives to the cementation process are also considered. All of the chapters have been written by leading experts in restorative and surgical dental implantology. The information supplied isádesigned to change the way in which the dentist thinks and practices by replacing assumptions and reliance on anecdotes with evidence-based knowledge.
Contents
1 Restoring the Dental Implant: The Biological Determinants -- 2 Cemented Implant Restorations and the Risk of Peri-Implant Disease: Current Status -- 3 Peri-implant Disease and Cemented Implant Restorations: A Multifactorial Etiology -- 4 Implant Luting Cements -- 5 Residual Excess Cement Detection -- 6 How Abutment Margin Design Influences Cement Flow: Abutment Selection and Cement Margin Site -- 7 Restorative Options That Eliminate or Reduce the Potential for Cement-Induced Peri-implant Disease -- 8 Clinical Solutions: PTFE -- 9 Importance of the Implant Screw Access Channel Location: Development of a Screw Access Channel Locating Device and Radiographic Integrator -- 10 Intraoral Radiography and Implant Restoration -- 11 Treatment Options Related to Cement Contamination and Repair of Lesions.

Abstract
This book aims to define the etiological factors in dental caries and to guide the clinician towards methods of caries prevention that are evidence based. The coverage includes discussion of the active role of the biofilm and the oral environment and emphasizes the multifactorial etiology of dental caries. The opening chapters describe the early detection and diagnosis of dental caries, highlight the value of caries risk assessment to the patient, and explain the dynamic process of the demineralization-remineralization cycle. Information is presented on the action of fluoride, and the evidence relating to the use and effectiveness of remineralization agents and biomimetic materials is reviewed. Additionally, the effects of antimicrobials such as chlorhexidine and ozone are summarized. Further chapters focus on dietary counseling (with information on sweeteners and probiotics), the effectiveness of sealants in caries prevention, and resin infiltration. The philosophy of prophylaxis and ways to improve patient compliance and achieve proper mechanical plaque removal are discussed. The book is concluded with a chapter discussing preventive actions in representative cases.
Contents
Dental Caries and Caries Epidemiology -- Detection and Diagnosis of Carious Lesions -- The Assessment of Carious Lesion Activity and Caries Risk -- Remineralization and Biomimetics- Remineralization Agents and Fluoride Therapy -- Antimicrobials in Caries Prevention -- The Role of Diet in Caries Prevention -- Sealants -- Resin Infiltration: A Micro-invasive Treatment for Enamel Carious and Hypomineralised Lesions -- Caries Prevention for All Age Groups -- Caries Management and Prevention in Relation to the Needs of the Patient.

Abstract
This clinically oriented book covers all aspects of the evidence-based decision making process in multidisciplinary management of the natural dentition. The book opens by clarifying the principles of evidence-based decision making and explaining how these principles should be applied in daily practice. Individual chapters then focus specifically, and in detail, on endodontic, periodontal, and prosthetic considerations, identifying aspects that need to be integrated into decision making and treatment planning. Evidence-based decision making with regard to preservation of the natural tooth versus extraction and implant placement is then discussed, and a concluding chapter examines likely future trends in dentistry and how they may affect clinical decision making. The authors include leading endodontists, periodontists, and prosthodontists. Given the multidisciplinary and comprehensive nature of the book, it will be relevant and interesting to the entire dental community.
Contents
Introduction to evidence-based decision making in the multidisciplinary management of the natural dentition -- Principles of evidence-based decision making -- Evidence-based decision making in dentistry: the endodontic perspective -- Evidence-based decision making in periodontal tooth prognosis and maintenance of the natural dentition -- Evidence based decision making in restoration of the natural dentition -- Preserving the natural tooth versus extraction and implant placement: an evidence based approach -- Case selection for the use of cone beam computed tomography in dentistry based on diagnostic efficacy and risk assessment -- Evolving new strategies for periodontal, endodontic and alveolar bone regeneration.

Abstract
This book covers all aspects of implant dentistry, presenting up-to-date information that reflects the highest level of scientific evidence as presented in the specialized literature. Among the topics addressed by expert authors are the prognosis of natural tooth versus implant restorations, bone response to implant treatment, placement and loading time, implant design and length, platform design, implant abutments, prosthodontic treatment, reconstructive surgery, and periimplantitis. The amount of data available for the clinician working in the field of implantology is huge and constantly increasing. The task of remaining abreast of the latest evidence and applying it effectively in clinical practice is further hindered by the fact that many scientific papers make contradictory claims and contain methodological flaws and biases that generate confusion and lack of reliability. Against this background, Evidence-Based Implant Dentistry will serve the reader as a dependable and scientifically supported guide to current implant treatment and key issues in the field.
Contents

Abstract
This book reviews the evidence relating to the mechanisms, clinical efficacy, safety/toxicity, and clinical application of tooth whitening techniques and materials. All clinical techniques are profusely illustrated step by step. The book is divided into four parts, the first of which explains how tooth whitening with peroxides works and examines the overall safety of peroxides and potential complications. The findings of clinical trials with peroxide-based materials for clinical practice are then examined, with discussion of a wide range of issues in at-home whitening and in-office whitening. The third part focuses on the techniques of enamel microabrasion and resin infiltration, which entail removal of a microscopic layer of enamel and may be used to improve tooth color either alone or in combination with peroxides. The concluding part includes a variety of informative clinical cases using combined bleaching and restorative techniques for discolored teeth. Tooth Whitening: An Evidence-Based Perspective will be of interest for dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and others with an interest in the subject.
Contents
Part I. Tooth Whitening with Peroxides -- 1. Introduction to Tooth Whitening -- 2. Tooth Whitening: How Does it Work? -- 3. Overall Safety of Peroxides -- 4.
