Abstract
This book examines the landmark 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) from the perspective that health policy innovation is translational research directed at improving health. It delineates a new perspective about the creation and potential impact of the ACA and guides the development of health policy that is supported by best evidence that, in turn, transforms into practice, policy, and public benefit. Told by those involved in the creation and implementation of the ACA, the book reviews the history and impact of this ground-breaking legislation and recommends priorities, objectives, and next steps for translational research as the ACA is implemented. Featuring contributions from nationally renowned leaders in healthcare policy, this book adds to the public conversation about the ACA and its role in shaping health policy and contributes to a more realistic, nuanced, and productive understanding of this ground-breaking legislation by physicians, policy makers, and the public. It also provides a framework for next steps in continuing to improve U.S. health policy.

Abstract
"An important check-up on our health-care system--and what urgently needs fixing--from a respected doctor and passionate Medicare advocate. Dr. Danielle Martin sees the cracks and challenges in our health-care system every day. Much like Atul Gawande, she uses real patient stories to illustrate what works in our health-care system and what doesn't. Most importantly, she proposes bold fixes that are both achievable and affordable. One of the most urgent reforms she advocates for is a national pharmacare program, instead of the piecemeal provincial pattern of buying drugs. Canada could save billions if drugs were bought in bulk by a single body, which in turn could fund a national prescription program. Patients also need a regular GP instead of overusing hospital Emergency Clinics. Hospitals need to take into account a patient's overall medical history, at every stage from admission to discharge. And since poverty is the greatest predictor of ill health, Dr. Martin argues that a guaranteed income could prevent and alleviate many health problems, reducing pressure on the system and our wallets."-- Provided by publisher.

Abstract
Clinical Integration. Population Health and Accountable Care, Third Edition provides a fresh set of insights and new information on the evolution of Clinically Integrated Networks (CINs), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs) and other new models of provider collaboration across the United States (U.S.) healthcare system. The third edition transitions from the second edition collaborative work of its four original authors to a 14-chapter anthology, each chapter authored by industry experts and edited by the second edition authors. This new edition provides a refresh on the issues covered in the second edition, along with introducing a number of new topics. Patient engagement, care coordination, behavioral health, and industry standards are new areas of importance for provider-sponsored organizations that are discussed for the first time in this edition. The audience for this collaborative anthology is multi-faceted. The content covered is expanded to meet the needs of several industry stakeholders including: Physician Leaders and Practitioners; Payers; Healthcare Policy Makers; Healthcare Law; Academic and Research; and Consumers.

Abstract
Current economic, demographic, and environmental shifts are presenting major challenges to health care systems around the world. In response, decentralization--the transfer of control from central to local authorities--is emerging as a successful means of meeting these challenges and reducing inequities of care. But as with health care itself, one size does not fit all, and care systems must be responsive to global reality as well as local demand. Decentralizing Health Services explores a variety of applications of decentralization to health care delivery in both the developing and developed worlds. Outfitted with principles, blueprints, and examples, this ambitious text clearly sets out the potential role of decentralized care as a major player in public health. Its models of service delivery illustrate care that is effective, inclusive, flexible, and in tune with the current era of preventive and evidence-based healthcare. Contributors point out opportunities, caveats, and controversies as they: Clarify the relationships among decentralization, politics, and policy Differentiate between political, fiscal, and administrative decentralization in health care systems. Consider public/private partnerships in health systems. Explain how the effects of decentralization can be evaluated. Present the newest data on the health outcomes of decentralization. Explore some challenges and global issues of health systems in the 21st century. And each chapter features learning goals, discussion questions, activities, and recommendations for further reading. Heralding changes poised to revolutionize care, Decentralizing Health Services will broaden the horizons of researchers and administrators in health services, health economics, and health policy.
