Abstract
The liver is a complex organ due to its unique microscopic structure, intricate metabolic functions and susceptibility to a wide variety of insults, manifesting in countless histological patterns. Atlas of Liver Pathology considers both changes seen in medical liver biopsies as well as lesional biopsies when the specimen has been taken from a mass. The book starts by reviewing normal structure and its variants and the optimal approaches for the preparation of histological sections for diagnostic liver pathology. The following chapters are dedicated to developmental, metabolic, infectious, drug related, autoimmune, biliary, vascular and neoplastic disorders. Two sections on liver pathology in pregnancy and transplantation conclude the work. Macroscopic illustrations are included where appropriate. All photographs are complemented by legends describing the picture and providing relevant related information. Authored by nationally and internationally recognized pathologists, Atlas of Liver Pathology is a valuable resource that serves as a quick reference guide for the diagnosis of usual and unusual diseases.

Abstract
With a focus on practical patient related issues, Autoimmune Hepatitis: A Guide for Practicing Clinicians serves as a useful practical, and much needed, resource for all those physicians presented with managing patients diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, both acutely and over the long term. It provides a basis for clinicians to understand the etiology of the disease, as well as special circumstances where management dilemmas often arise. Emphasis is given to providing management advice of immediate use to clinicians, something not presently offered by other larger general texts. The chapters are written by those with an expertise and training in this field and include the most up to date information. This book is of great value to Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, and Internists at all levels who see patients presenting with autoimmune hepatitis.
Contents
Pathogenesis of autoimmune hepatitis -- Clinical presentation -- Confirmation of the diagnosis: interpreting the serology -- Mimics of autoimmune hepatitis: drug induced and immune mediated liver disease -- When and how to treat the adult patient -- When and how to treat the pediatric patient -- Strategies for treatment nonresponders: second-line therapies and novel approaches -- Liver transplantation for autoimmune hepatitis -- Autoimmune hepatitis and pregnancy -- Treatment side effects and associated autoimmune diseases -- Managing the patient with features of overlapping autoimmune liver disease -- Autoimmune hepatitis: a look toward the future.

Abstract
Autoimmune Liver Diseases summarizes the recent high-impact research and clinical findings obtained in Japan in the study and treatment of autoimmune liver diseases. Although these disorders are relatively rare, they are recognized as an important group of refractory liver diseases, the most common of which are autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). The book therefore comprises two major sections, one dealing with AIH, the other with PBC. AIH in Japanese patients creates a unique disease population, as its clinical features are different from those of Western patients resulting from the different genetic background of the two patient populations. Also, mouse models of neonatal thymectomy-PD-1 knockout mice, clinical analyses of acute hepatitis-like manifestations, and research findings on IgG4-related autoimmune hepatitis have been reported in Japan and are included in this book. A disease-susceptibility gene specific to Japanese PBC patients has also recently been discovered. Because of the relatively homogeneous population of Japan, analyses conducted with Japanese PBC patients have yielded findings that are highly relevant to the pathogenesis of the disease. Furthermore, new pathological staging criteria, anti-gp210 antibodies and the basis they provide for improved accuracy of prognosis, treatment with bezafibrate, and the outcomes of living-donor liver transplantation are also presented here.

Abstract
Chronic Hepatitis C Virus: Advances in Treatment, Promise for the Future documents the monumental advances that have been made in our understanding of chronic HCV during the past decade. The first section reviews the natural history of chronic HCV, how this virus can affect other organs in addition to the liver, and whether treating chronic HCV alters the natural history of this disease. Section 2 reviews the advances that have been made in the treatment of chronic HCV during the past decade with interferon based therapy. Separate chapters on response guided therapy and how to manage the adverse events associated with these medications provide the physician with the concepts required to more effectively treat chronic HCV now and in the future. As the genetics of virologic response have recently been elucidated, a chapter is devoted to helping the clinician understand how genes that modulate disease processes and their treatment are identified and utilized in clinical care. Section 3 deals with the future of HCV treatment and specific inhibitors of HCV. Specific chapters explain how targets for drugs are identified and how drugs are then developed and tested; how mutations of HCV develop and how anti-viral agents will affect this process; the most up to date data regarding the treatment of chronic HCV with peginterferon, ribavirin and anti-viral agents; and the potential to treat chronic HCV with just oral anti-viral agents and without peginterferon and ribavirin in the future. The final section of this book covers issues related to liver transplantation in patients with chronic HCV. Separate chapters review the natural history of chronic HCV in liver transplant recipients and the impact of utilizing HCV positive donors. The volume concludes with chapters that cover the treatment of chronic HCV both prior to and after liver transplantation with potent anti-viral agents. Chronic Hepatitis C Virus: Advances in Treatment, Promise for the Future is a valuable resource for all physicians caring for patients with chronic HCV.
Contents
Epidemiology of Chronic HCV -- Acute HCV -- Assessing the Progression of Chronic HCV to Cirrhosis -- Chronic HCV and Steatosis -- Chronic HCV and Hepatocellular Carcinoma -- Extrahepatic Manifestations of Chronic HCV -- Chronic HCV and HIV Co-infection -- Chronic HCV in Patients with Renal Disease -- Does Treatment Alter the Natural History of Chronic HCV -- Treatment with Interferon and Ribavirin -- Immune Modulators and Other Agents -- Measuring HCV RNA and Assessing Virologic Response -- Response Guided Therapy -- Managing the Side Effects of Therapy -- The Genetics of Virologic Response -- Maintenance Therapy with Peginterferon -- Anti-viral Targets in HCV -- Mutations and the Development of Anti-viral Resistance -- Peginterferon, Ribavirin and Anti-viral Triple Therapy -- Treating Chronic HCV without Interferon and/or Ribavirin -- Maintenance Therapy with Oral Anti-viral Agents -- Natural History of Chronic HCV after Liver Transplantation -- Use of HCV Positive Organs in Patients with and without Chronic HCV -- Treating HCV Prior to Liver Transplantation -- Treating HCV after Liver Transplantation.
