When the kidneys are affected by some diseases, they do not work properly and can cause illness. - When the kidneys are affected by some diseases, they do not work properly and can cause illness. The blood work, urine tests, and other tests such as ultrasound and renal scan can give the doctor a lot of information, but sometimes this is not enough to make the diagnosis, and a kidney biopsy is needed.
