Abstract
This richly illustrated atlas written by a team of experts guides the reader to the applications of lasers and light technologies in dermatology. It is divided in two parts: the first reviews the physical and optical concepts related to lasers and light sources, and provides a detailed description of surgical (ablative and non-ablative), vascular and pigmentary laser devices. It also discusses difficult-to-treat conditions, such as melasma and scars. The second part of the atlas is more clinically-oriented, presenting reproducible parameters and high-resolution images of pre and post-treatment, and desired end points in order to achieve an optimal result. Enabling readers to gain an understanding of the various topics concerning lasers, it explores conventional, non-conventional and combined laser treatments in a wide range of indications, as well as practical aspects such as medicolegal issues, informed consent and management of complications. The increasing knowledge and growing expertise in lasers and light devices make it necessary for physicians to be aware of the latest developments in this quickly evolving field. As such, this book is of interest to all physicians working in dermatology, cosmetology and aesthetic medicine, as well as to physician assistants and nurses using lasers in their daily practice.

Abstract
This thesis lays the groundwork for the automatic supervision of the laser incision process, which aims to complement surgeons’ perception of the state of tissues and enhance their control over laser incisions. The research problem is formulated as the estimation of variables that are representative of the state of tissues during laser cutting. Prior research in this area leveraged numerical computation methods that bear a high computational cost and are not straightforward to use in a surgical setting. This book proposes a novel solution to this problem, using models inspired by the ability of experienced surgeons to perform precise and clean laser cutting. It shows that these new models, which were extracted from experimental data using statistical learning techniques, are straightforward to use in a surgical setup, allowing greater precision in laser-based surgical procedures.

Existing texts covering lasers in dermatology are often bulky and therefore it has been hard for the dermatologist to find a complete and concise reference that highlights only the specific use of lasers in cutaneous medicine. This handbook has been written to provide a basic structural framework for clinicians and trainees, and clearly outlines laser techniques for each specific dermatologic disorder. Handbook of Lasers in Dermatology comprehensively covers each application of lasers for the skin in a manner that can be easily read by beginners and experts alike. It provides readers with a handy and reliable reference guide that improves patient care and treatment outcomes.

Abstract
This book offers a comprehensive guide to the technical basis of laser ablation, describing and reporting in detail on the latest findings. The world of medicine is currently working to reduce the invasiveness of treatment, in order to improve patients’ quality of life. Image-guided ablations are rapidly becoming an effective alternative to several surgical treatments. Among the many techniques available for ablation, laser is still not widely used, though its efficacy has been amply demonstrated. The scientific community is now showing a growing interest in laser techniques for image-guided ablations, and many physicians are willing to start using lasers in their clinical practice. The book is divided into 16 chapters, including historical notes, technical aspects, outcomes of ex-vivo experiments, and results of the application of this technique in various clinical scenarios. It will be of great interest to a broad range of physicians (interventional radiologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, urologists), from less experienced trainees to expert physicians who want to introduce a novel clinical practice.

Abstract
This book addresses the management of scars using lasers and light. The authors provide a comprehensive overview of the current laser modalities and the science and evidence behind them. They also present various treatments, including those using carbon dioxide lasers, Erbium:YAG lasers, pulsed dye lasers and Q-switched lasers. The book includes detailed information on the treatment of burn, acne, keloid and hypertrophic scars, as well as discussions of the complications of laser treatments and ethical and medico-legal issues. Scars have many causes, including trauma and burns, but also medical treatments themselves - scars are an inevitable consequence of most surgery. There have been significant advances in laser and light technology over the last decade, and the management of scars with a variety of lasers has been adopted both in traditional healthcare settings and in the cosmetic sector. Edited by a respected burns and plastic surgeon, this book is a valuable resource for a variety of clinicians including dermatologists, laser practitioners, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, burn care professionals, as well as multidisciplinary teams working with patients with scars of all aetiologies.

Abstract
This book provides the most authoritative, comprehensive and contemporary guide to technological progresses and clinical experiences of laser applications in cardiovascular medicine. Since the introduction of laser devices to the medical sciences, this technology has generated great interest. Specifically, the laser's unique physical properties and precise bio-tissue interactions render this versatile source of biologic energy an attractive tool for multiple therapeutic purposes in cardiovascular medicine. Over the course of the last two decades the utilization of laser technology has thus become an important component for the management of patients with complex cardiovascular diseases. Lasers in Cardiovascular Interventions is a valuable resource to this subject providing thorough yet practical information for cardiologists, vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists, as well as medical students, scientists, biomedical engineering students and graduates.

Abstract
This book provides information on the basic science and tissue interactions of dental lasers and documents the principal current clinical uses of lasers in every dental discipline. The applications of lasers in restorative dentistry, endodontics, dental implantology, pediatric dentistry, periodontal therapy, and soft tissue surgery are clearly described and illustrated. Information is also provided on laser-assisted multi-tissue management, covering procedures such as crown lengthening, gingival troughing, gingival recontouring, and depigmentation. The closing chapters look forward to the future of lasers in dentistry and the scope for their widespread use in everyday clinical practice. When used in addition to or instead of conventional instrumentation, lasers offer many unique patient benefits. Furthermore, research studies continue to reveal further potential clinical applications, and new laser wavelengths are being explored, developed, and delivered with highly specific power configurations to optimize laser-tissue interaction. This book will bring the reader up to date with the latest advances and will appeal to all with an interest in the application of lasers to the oral soft and/or hard tissues.
