Abstract
This concise, accessible book covers anesthesia for hepatico-pancreatic-biliary (HPB) surgery and transplantation, based on randomized clinical trials, meta-analyses, case series, reports, and hands-on experience. The anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and clinical consequences are discussed, and the close ties between HPB resection and transplant anesthesia are explored. The content reflects current real-world practice, as liver and pancreatic transplant surgeries have substantially improved in terms of blood-loss reduction, fast tracking and reduced risk. The book also addresses anesthetic aspects in connection with the recently introduced and rapidly expanding practice of laparoscopic surgery; with enhanced recovery; and with pancreatic surgery. Anesthesia for Hepatico-Pancreatic-Biliary Surgery and Transplantation is intended for aspiring HPB and transplant anesthetists, anesthesia trainees, and consultants with experience in HPB anesthesia who want to see whether or not they’re up to date on the current standards.

Abstract
Chronic Hepatitis C Virus: Advances in Treatment, Promise for the Future documents the monumental advances that have been made in our understanding of chronic HCV during the past decade. The first section reviews the natural history of chronic HCV, how this virus can affect other organs in addition to the liver, and whether treating chronic HCV alters the natural history of this disease. Section 2 reviews the advances that have been made in the treatment of chronic HCV during the past decade with interferon based therapy. Separate chapters on response guided therapy and how to manage the adverse events associated with these medications provide the physician with the concepts required to more effectively treat chronic HCV now and in the future. As the genetics of virologic response have recently been elucidated, a chapter is devoted to helping the clinician understand how genes that modulate disease processes and their treatment are identified and utilized in clinical care. Section 3 deals with the future of HCV treatment and specific inhibitors of HCV. Specific chapters explain how targets for drugs are identified and how drugs are then developed and tested; how mutations of HCV develop and how anti-viral agents will affect this process; the most up to date data regarding the treatment of chronic HCV with peginterferon, ribavirin and anti-viral agents; and the potential to treat chronic HCV with just oral anti-viral agents and without peginterferon and ribavirin in the future. The final section of this book covers issues related to liver transplantation in patients with chronic HCV. Separate chapters review the natural history of chronic HCV in liver transplant recipients and the impact of utilizing HCV positive donors. The volume concludes with chapters that cover the treatment of chronic HCV both prior to and after liver transplantation with potent anti-viral agents. Chronic Hepatitis C Virus: Advances in Treatment, Promise for the Future is a valuable resource for all physicians caring for patients with chronic HCV.

This book focuses on patients with end-stage-liver disease (ESLD) who could possibly qualify for liver transplant. This patient cohort raises many problems: who should be treated and also, when is it too late for transplant? The authors are all dedicated experts in the field of ESLD/liver transplantation, but from different disciplines with different views of the problem. In the past 15 years many things have changed in the treatment for these patients: cardiac assessment, treatment of porto-pulmonary hypertension, hemodynamics, coagulation assessment and management, diagnosis of kidney failure, and the timing of dialysis. These issues are comprehensively discussed in this book, in order to provide physicians starting in the field of transplantation an overview of different areas of concern. This book is aimed at specialists and trainees in critical care, hepatology, anesthesia, surgery, and nephrology.

Abstract
Hepatitis C Virus and Liver Transplantation is designed to provide a comprehensive and state-of-the-art overview of the major issues specific to the field of liver transplantation and hepatitis C virus infection. The sections of the book have been structured to review the overall scope of issues of recurrent hepatitis C in different complex settings, including retransplantation, HIV-coinfected patients or in the setting of suboptimal graft donors. This book provides up-to-date information on the application of new therapies to the field of liver transplantation. It provides the most recent data on their efficacy, the management of side effects, as well as the potential interactions and specific problems associated with their use in the transplant setting. Finally, an appraisal of the risks and benefits of using organs from anti-HCV positive donors is presented. This book provides concise and actual materials for several important topics that are simply not adequately covered by current available literature. Hepatitis C Virus and Liver Transplantation will provide a unique and valuable resource in the field of liver transplantation and will be of great value to Hepatologists, Transplant and Abdominal Surgeons, Oncologists, as well as Fellows and Residents training in these fields.
Contents

Abstract
Providing anesthesiology for liver surgery and especially liver transplantation is highly complex and requires profound expertise in the physiology and pathophysiology of liver disease. This new edition incorporates the latest information in the field and remains the only available book on the topic. It focuses on the practical aspect of liver anesthesiology and critical care, while providing a comprehensive and in depth summary of the knowledge in this field. Most liver transplant centers now have dedicated teams providing anesthesia care during liver transplantations. In the last years there has been a substantial increase in knowledge and improvement in techniques in anesthesiology and critical care of patients undergoing liver surgery and transplant patients. Liver Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, 2nd Edition includes new chapters on chronic liver failure and hepatic cirrhosis, preoperative risk assessment, evidence in liver anesthesiology, the splanchnic and systemic circulation in liver disease and a special focus on analgesia for liver resection including regional techniques. Written for anesthesiologists and critical care physicians caring for patients undergoing liver surgery and transplantation, this book proves to be an essential companion and review book as the number of liver surgeries with higher complexity continue to increase.
